The Durga Tour Moab May 30th

We have revised the Durga Tour day a little. There will be 3 workshops..Starting at 9 and ending at 3:30. They are $45.00 each or $100 for all three!! I am asking that I receive your music by May 15th if you are performing. There are still openings for both the workshops and the show...we would love to have you. All the information is on the website.. www.desertveils.org . It is easy to pay now through pay pal! Remember if you want to perform one workshop is a must.

It looks like I waited too long to shoot on the salt flats. Unless you think we can hack it.?
My plan now is to locate some kind of abandoned industrial building. There is one close by the East Bay area in Provo. It's by the train tracks and definitely abandoned. It was an old rendering plant. I'm going to check it out soon and see about shooting there.
If anyone knows of a good location let me know. It doesn't have to be an abandoned industrial building. A burned out house would be cool. Use your imagination and keep your eyes open for a good location.
We have a real camera crew that I've worked with b4 so we should definately do this.

Fond Farewell Jill / Raven

Long overdue, but I didn't want to write it! Our beloved member of Dragomi, Raven, has parted from Dragomi. She has accepted a new work position in Australia! She commuted from Pocatello, Idaho almost every Saturday for classes, but we decided Australia might be a bit too long of a commute. ;) We will miss our sweet Jill, but wish her the BEST OF LUCK in Australia and we will miss her so much!! If prices ever come down, or someone in Dragomi strikes it rich, we may have to come down under and pay her a visit!
We love you Jill! We will miss you!! You are a great dancer and have been a fun member of Dragomi. You are an excellent friend who always brought smiles to our faces. You are a wonderful person who seems to light up a room wherever you! Australia is lucky to be receiving you!

We are so excited to have you and all the lovely ladies grace our stage for the 3rd year in a row for Tribal Sands this year! WE are really pleased to have Fvorboda teaching a workshop! We are still a small and humble festival..catering to the finest dancers around. As Moab is far away, I need a ride from the airport on Friday afternoon for Amy, Shelly and Anita. I also need a ride for Shelly to SLC on Sunday. I need a ride back to SLC for Amy and friend, and perhaps Anita and Kami on Tues evening or Wednesday am after the river trip. Please pm me if you can help. They are some real fun ladies! We will help pay gas. Bring a treat for Friday dancing in the desert and an outfit for Sunday night's party (something you would love to see someone wear) ((almost anything goes)). See you soon!

SLC's Zombie Walk

I have free tickets for as many as want to come to SLUG Mag’s Zombie walk. They are hosting an event that sounds pretty fun. You dress up like a Zombie – any kind of Zombie you want, splash some fake blood on yourself, then you go and meet at the Gateway, walk around with a crowd of Zombies and then go home and wash your face. Let me know if you want to come and just kidding about the tickets, the event is free.

Belly Dance Basics [American Tribal Style (ATS)]
(Beginning - Intermediate)
This beginning level class will focus on learning to isolate body parts from one and other, drilling technical movements, as well as learning and mastering the ATS vocabulary for improvisational dance. About Love, what about it? Love as we all know has many meanings to all of us. This is what is means to us. Transfusion Hype is a group of established choreographers and dancers. Some of their credits include performances for Michael Jackson, Wu Tang, Trina, Odyssey, NY Dance Collective Dance Company, The Source Hip Hop Honors, The Osmonds, Utah's Movement Forum, and New York City's Fringe Festival. Their choreography has been seen placed on Radio Disney artists, Utah Regional Ballet, Michael Jackson's tribute show, Homeslice LA, and BB King Presents. LaRa Zorn first become entranced by the art of Belly Dance while watching, some of the original members of, Urban Tribal Dance Company at the Southern California Renaissance Faire. Only eleven years old and very naïve, LaRa believed that the exotic movements must
have been limited to mothers and daughters of particular cultures. However, years later, at the age of eighteen, she found Cabaret Style classes at the Riverside Community College. Soon she moved on to such well know instructors as Catharae, Amara, & Shahira.
In 2003, she sought out Tribal style classes and, shortly thereafter, found Rachel Lazarus Soto of Devadasi-World Fusion Dance
(a Tribal Fusion dance troupe). After a few months of studying exclusively with Rachel, she was invited to become a core member of Devadasi. During that time she had the privilege of performing at a variety of venues and training with
many different instructors. Outside projects and instruction later lead her to realize her dream of becoming a member of
Atash Maya Dance Company, based in San Diego, with whom she now studies and performs.
In addition to that, LaRa now teaches Tribal Fusion Basics through the Norco City Parks & Recreation Center & can be seen
performing on “Evolution,” a Tribal Fusion performance DVD, with Devadasi. LaRa is also a Holistic Health Practitioner & Massage
Therapy
Instructor.

A big thank you!!

Well, I've had a week to recover from all the energy and wanted to send a hug and big thank you to 'Boda and Dragomi for the participation, support, and performance at Oct-tribal Fest 2. You gals were the show; I tell you what ;)!!! I had several cancellations from dancers for the performance and seriously, if there had been no Dragomi, my show would've been me.... doing a tap dance.... for like 45 minutes. Which would've been thrilling for anyone wishing me ultimate demise, but I think even they would have gotten bored eventually. Jaci, I loved your solo, you intense gal, and it was so awesome to see Jill and Anna and all of you! I know our Idaho audiences can be... surreal, but I think that may be part of the fun. Now here's hoping that my 3rd time will be a charm when dealing with the theatre. In other words, stage lighting, an MC who shows up, and maybe a bigger venue?!?! But really... thank you so much. You are an inspiration to a lot of gals.

Thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaz, right, ladies and gents. That's how far it is from little ol' Boise Ideeeho to the show-rockin' Hot Pot Studios.

Unmata's Blood Moon, here I come.

I'm going to be driving down either the early Friday morning of the 26th of October, or the Thursday before, around 4:30pm. If anyone wants to carpool with me, that would be fantastic. I believe it's much cheaper than flying, plus road trips always rock. I will be taking my car unless someone has a van that they would want to use. My car can hold 5 people (including driver), or 4 comfortably. I also have a pretty big trunk. I can drive a little over 200 miles before filling the tank up again, so we can rotate the gas expense (we'd really only have to fill it up about 2 times each, at $40 a tank).

Let me know what everyone thinks.

Baby shower for Kelsey Friday night at Tribal Sands!

Yep, out in the desert, we are going to have a shower, or rather a blessing for Kelsey and her soon to be born baby boy! Kara Nomadica will be playing so wear your garb! Bring sweaters or the like. Blanket or chair is ideal. (That can sit on the ground). This is a potluck so if there is any dish you are dying to share do it! We will have coolers..ect...campfire for re-heating. DANCE FOR DARFUR

Hello Friends,
Its been a long time since I posted, I really am still here! I
wanted to be sure I had something wonderful to say before I posted
and....WAHOO. ...something wonderful is right around the corner! I
must first start by saying that for several months now I have been
deeply disturbed by the genocide that is occuring in Darfur. I
realize that horrible things happen in the world everyday, but the
plight of the people in Darfur is especially horrific. It seems
that much of the world has turned a blind eye to the misery and
suffering that is so much a part of daily life there. Then on
Wednesday, I heard an interview with a refugee that told of not only
the horrific murder of her husband right in front of her but the
rape that she suffered next to her dead husbands body. I realize
that this is very graffic and disturbing, but we must know the
truth. There are millions of stories like this one, and sadly,
stories that are much worse. I vomited after hearing this story and
sobbed for most of the day, and that is when I knew I could no
longer stand by and do nothing. So that is when the "something
wonderful" came to me. Dancing for Darfur is our something
wonderful! I have a Theater, a Date, and now all I need is YOU!!!!
Rising Phoenix dance company in co-operation with Kashmir dance
company is presenting an all for charity show on November 17, 2007!
We will be raffling off gift baskets, have Henna tattooing, selling
local arts and crafts, all the proceeds will go directly to Save
Darfur/Amnesty International to get women and children out of
refugee camps and into countries offering amnesty/refugee statis to
give those who so desperatly need a fresh start and a chance to
heal. No dancer needs to pay to perform or have flyers offering
their classes. This is wonderful oppurtunity for the groups in Utah
to show their talent for such a good cause. This is show will
promote peace and unity on a local level and hopefully raise
awareness to a global level. We can be such a force for good and
this is a perfect way to start! I am formally asking Thia, Raffa,
Zaharia, Jamilla, Dragomi, Amina, Indie Kumari, Blue Lotus, and any
other groups or soloists who would like to perform to please contact
me right away. Please do not be offended if I did not mention your
group by name. If you want to be a part of this you are welcome.
The show is in November, so thats plenty of time for you to recover
from your Halloween shows. The vision is to have a small
market/boutique to shop at and browse before the show, raffle
drawing at the close of show, teachers handing out flyers for thier
own classes and an atmosphere of peace and positive action. When I
approached Corrie Walker about this on Weds. night she and I sat on
the couch and cried for the people of Darfur, and she said, "we can
not live in a bubble, we have to do something" and from that moment
Kashmir was on board. We also need sound and lights so if any of
you,(Charles, Raj, Bryan) could help us out that would be awsome.
This is a strictly for charity event, so we will not be able to
offer you payment. You will however be making a difference. The
theater seats 250, and tickets will be $10 at the door. More
details to come.....But it is going to be spectacular! Again, I
must stress that this is a for charity event, no one takes any money
from this show, Not One Cent goes to me or anyone else involved in
this show, all proceeds go to charity! Lets make a difference.

is at Fort Douglas, I forgot the name DUH! Will post with more

Passing the torch: 27th Annual Kismet Bellydance Festival on Fri/Sat August 17-18

The 27th Annual Kismet Bellydance Festival will be on Fri/Sat August 17-18, 2007, at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center, 1355 West 3100 South, West Valley City, UT 84119 (Salt Lake City).

Hours are Noon to 10:00 pm, admission is $5 at the door, children 12 and under are free.

This will be the last time Yasamina produces it, as the Festival and her Kismet Dance Company will be continued by a group of four of her students for the next 27 years. Yasamina will continue to teach workshops and perform.

What a whirlwind!

Idaho was amazing! We had such spectacular time in Boise! Everyone was so great and so friendly! We loved coming and I hope we can't wait to come back again and kickin' it with everyone! UNMATA was AMAZING! Samira is PHENOMENAL! Boise, Idaho was rocking Saturday and Sunday! Whew! We were so happy and honored to receive with the People's Choice Award presented by Cairo Fusion! Thank you everyone!!! It was an exciting whirlwind of workshops and performances with vendors! We can't wait until next year!

Festival in Moab in Sept!

Just a reminder to keep Sept 28th thru the 30th for Moab! Friday the 28th is dancing in the desert, Sat are the workshops in the morning and Performances ( two each) from 3pm until ...and a great surprise Sat. night. Sun is a river trip down the Colo. river....AND this year we are so happy to have Nedra Basira from Buffalo, Unmata and Tribal Tique teaching workshops! BE sure a reserve all 3 days....registration will be up shortly......everybody wants you back!

I did respond and gave him this outrageous price for flying me up there and all. He responded right away, just wanting to know where to send the retainer etc. He did not answer my questions about details, just told me it was in Coeur d'Alene. So I asked myself "the question": If my daughter was asked to do this out of the blue, with out knowing anything, what would I tell her? NO!
Of course, if it sounds too good to be true - it usually is.
Although I must admit it was a little flattering to think someone actually wanted me to dance and was willing to fly me up and pay for everything......
A number of things struck me wrong, but I did some extra checking and ARTHALL is all over the internet as a scam.
So beware - they are trying to get ya!!!!
And I am cross posting this so you all get the message!

Tempest workshop and the Durga tour! Saturday September 16th 2006!

3-hour workshop, and will start with Dancing Darkly - and will include aspects of Dramatic body language, plus some costuming! Workshop will be held at the Utah Arts Alliance - 2191 South 300 West. Check in time will be 12:00 - 12:30 - Workshop will be from 12:30 to 3:30 - Cost is $35.00

Gothla performance the evening of Saturday, September 16, 2006 and is to be held at the Parthenon Room! 3942 South State Street!
Tickets are now available for $20 and include dinner of chicken, rice, veggie, salad and beverage!. Performers and spectators alike will need a ticket.
Tempest will be the featured performer of the evening! Along with some fantastic Utah performers!

Hi there ladies!

I am so excited to host Dragomi for Oct-Tribal Fest this year; I have heard and contributed rave reviews of your performances at Kami's and in Moab!!! I'm posting a quick question around to get some input ...
Originally, I had planned on having a 'formal hafla' with just gals in the event attendiing, but there has been a wonderful response and I've noticed that people are putting a lot of thought and consideration into the event. How would you like me to advertise it and hold it in a little theatre in town with the public invited? Many around here have never seen tribal dance, other than myself, and I think it would be neat to show your hard work to a larger audience. Tell me your thoughts... I know that some would feel more comfortable with it as a smaller, 'hafla-esque' event, as well and I don't want to create discomfort. Thanks~ Chrystal

Oct-Tribal Fest Performance Update: We have a theatre :D!

Hi Ladies:
Guess what! I've confirmed a local theatre (with lighting) to do our Oct-Tribal Fest performance. It is going to be formal, with programme, and I have 18 spots left for performances (solo or group). I have two spaces saved for Dragomi :D! I'm pre-selling the tickets here in Pocatello; performers and workshop attendants get in free, of course. Partial proceeds from this show will benefit both the non-profit Gateway Centre for the Arts and the Global Emergency Disaster Relief Fund through Alternative Gift International. I am in the process of setting up advertising and ticket sales. Please e-mail me to save your performance spots for this show and receive the mini-poster. I need all of us to work to promote this event and help fill the theatre and support our gorgeous dance form.
Performance will be at the Cox Performing Arts Hall: Gateway Centre for Theatre and Dance in the Westwood Mall.
October 13th, Friday
$5 in advance, $6 at the door
7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

I just have to say that your routine at the bd fest was extraordinary.
The part with the ambient music was absolutely penetrating. I was transfixed.
That you could be so emotive and intense with such subtle sound and movement is impressive to say the least. You are all brilliant and you reek of cool. I'm so impressed.
