This semester we will be primarily focusing on what I like to call "Life's little struggles". We will be taking the contexts of our own lives and the lives of our friends, acquaintances, people we're flirting with and people we're screwing, people we like, people we wanna like and people we want to be liked by and of course....the arch enemies and evil villains and those who are unabashedly meddling, trash-talkin, two-faced, stuck-up, punk-ass bitches that they KNOW they are!, who seem to fuck with the general flow of joy that we all so Goddamned desperately seek!.......ahem excuse me......I meant to say, "that asail all of our utopian endeavors"
We will be interpreting and discussing allllllll the drama that is brought up here, in critical and comparative analysis, utilizing the examples found in Greek tragedy, Japanese Buto, Italian and French Opera and of course the master William Shakespeare. I would like to also include a newer form of interpretation using the "Reality TV" paradigm of "created or infused drama".
The objective of this class is not to discover answers or to "help" anyone; It is to enjoy the rich world that is drama......dramatics, the power and passion that drives us to create, destroy and create again. It is the stuff of growth, it is the faith, hope and the disillusionment that raises us to new heights....... or drops us to both knees with shaking fists and heavy hearts.
As your instructor and critic I look forward to working with each and everyone of you this semester. Feel free to bring your "friends" to class too! Participation will be a majority of your final grade.
