Strange tree

I'm going to repost this dream here from my blog; it has made me very curious about its meaning since i had it a few weeks ago..

I was on the farm i grew up on
Just outside my house, there was a huuuuge tree leaning west at a 45 degree angle (picture something similar to a large sundial)

It was ATLEAST ten metres thick; had no branches or leaves at all..and was completely straight.
I remember staring at it for awhile and pondering how strange it was
I noticed that near the top of the tree, there were three balloons with their strings either tangled in the bark, or tied to the tree itself. each balloon was a different color. I realized in my dream that i had to go up myself and 'rescue' the balloons; and free them from the tree
I actually had a feeling of pity for them lol

the tree makes no sense to me
it was supernatural somehow...and very powerful(almost like a tree/mountain), and yet
-why was it leaning west? (away from the sun)
-how could it get to be so large with no way of sustaining itself?

i was slightly afraid of it (mostly becasue it was so strange),and had a sense of duty, and curiosity

The balloons sound to me like fragments waiting to be rejoined with you since you were the only one allowed to retrieve them. Inner children/fragments. They are ready to come back and heal what caused them to be fragments. Fragments are d iassociated aspects of ourselves which is why you see them so completely separate from yourself to the point of pity, yet only you can get them...meaning they belong to you. The fact that it took place where it did speaks of your childhood, typical/normal for fragments. Blessings...

      thats cool...thank you :)
the one thing though, is that i was supposed to set them free so they could fly away....i wasnt supposed to keep them....
does that change your idea at all?

any idea what the tree could be?

It was almost like the tree had 'kidnapped' them :P

I read and re-read this and I can't get away from the idea (rare for me) that the tree is a phallic symbol, representing your father or some other very dominant male from your childhood. (Usually I don't resonate at all with their Freudian type of associations, either! - but this time, for some reason, yes.) This would explain both the angle and the lack of other structure - all the things that say "this isn't actually a tree." And certain things you say, the choice of words -- about a sense of duty, about setting something free . . . something (perhaps a part of you yourself) or someone whose normal free flight has been stopped by entanglement with the tree. You can see now how prone these balloons are to accidents such as this, and you feel pity for them, that their nature got them caught. You yourself, I think, are operating from a position of your own freedom and a lot of acquired wisdom in this dream.
