hi friends! this subject is one of the main reasons i started this tribe. someone was askin josh about renting a car from san jose to mal pais, and if it was possible to make a rental drop off in santa teresa(the main spot beside mal pais). they are arriving on the 1st.
one can take can take a nature air plane ride from san jose to tambor-which is then just a taxi ride away from mal pais. i didn't find the fares on the website just now, but i recall that ride would be costing possibly somewhere round $70 or so...?
the website link for nature air:
natureair.com/destinations/index.htm
tambor is the destination.
if enough folks wanted to travel on the same flight, there is a chance of group discounts as it is our good friends airline.
so, that is why i reccommend that people begin networking on this tribe, posting their departure dates etc.
we flew there last time, but i recall marty n mary also saying that the shuttles from san jose were inexpensive and readily available...?
how bout it m n m, what's your 2 cents here?
lov,
shawna

Re: organizing transport from san jose to mal pais....
Fri, November 17, 2006 - 1:16 PMIf you are flying into Tambor then you can just take one of the red cabs waiting there...they also dont mind sharing.
If you are renting a car make sure its a 4x4 or you will end of swimming in the rivers.

Re: organizing transport from san jose to mal pais....
Tue, November 21, 2006 - 6:41 AMAll, if Nature Air is booked on there daily flight, try Sansa, the national airline. They have late flights from San Jose (SJO) to Tambor.
Check www.flysansa.com
Flight times in high season (Dec 1) are 10am, 1:30pm and 2 flights at 16:30.
Call Tropical Tours to arrange a shuttle van if you want to save $$$ and see the drive, ferry and do a door to door. Ask them to take you from San Jose airport to MalPais (Mar Azul Resturant).

Re: organizing transport from san jose to mal pais....
Sat, November 25, 2006 - 7:24 AMFor those staying overnight in San Jose. At the airport there are a few hotels, the Hampton Inn is $80 a night and is modern, new and bling. There are 2 hotels for $40-50 near by too - just ask at the airport. If you take a cab to San Jose downtown, there are tons of hotels, the cab fare is around $10 downtown, and hotels can be as cheap as $20-25 a night. Hotel Capp House, Hotel Aranquez, are some examples of cheapos.

Re: organizing transport from san jose to mal pais....
Sat, November 25, 2006 - 7:22 AMYes, the shuttle ride is the same as driving - a little faster cause they know what they are doing :) - about 5 hours from San Jose Airport to MalPais door to door.
Its my favourite way to go if Im not in a rush.
