Hey all!
Many have asked about putting a strap on a doumbek. This is a VERY EASY way to do it that is very cheap and takes under 5 minutes!

Tie a scarf around your neck that comes to about your bellybutton and put the drum in it like an arm sling and tuck the drum under your arm.... Boom yer done. I think it was Carmine that posted a Youtube link to a bunch of Japanese guys playing and spinning around at the breaks. One of those guys had a scarf done this way if you want to dig it up and look at it.
PS I don't walk around with my ceramic drum

Re: HOW TO: Put a strap on a Doumbek
Mon, March 31, 2008 - 1:13 AMhi carmine, can you please post a little vid of what it looks like while you are playing it?
I use the karim nagi method(i know he didn't invent it but thats where i learned it) which employs 2 straps, maybe i can post that on you tube. 2 straps make it really solid with no extra movement. I am specifically wondering how secure the drum is with your way. In other words, when you play it, does it move around at all or does it sit solid and secure like when one is sitting down.

Keep in mind Karim DANCES with his doumbek on :)
There are different ways to put straps on a doumbek. I learned from Karim these techniques too :)
If you can put up a video of something, go for it :)
I wish we could do a ZZTop style strap for a doumbek. I so want to swing my doumbek in a circle and sing "gimme all yer lovin'"
