So I got a really cheap technics 1200, like $50 cheap, The first time I hooked it up I got great sound from it, but then I tried again, and I get nothing. I checked the cartridge and it works in my other turntables, do you think I shook a wire loose in the tonearm, or do you think this might be a bigger problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Tonearm Problem or something bigger
Thu, October 11, 2007 - 2:43 AMCould be either bad RCA or bad Tonearm. Do what rob said. Wiggle the RCA cables first, if nothing happens, more than likely it's your tonearm.
What kind of cartridges are you using? If you have Ortofon Concorde's, then more than likely you have tonearm damage. Notorious for damaging Technics tonearms. Look inside the tonearm tube, where you connect the cartridge. Are all 4 pins level and protruding? If any are pushed in, then there is the issue - bad tonearm. You can attempt to fix the problem by spraying contact spray (Caig's AV Kleen, DEOXIT, or similar - 1200s.com/Store/advance...rch_result.php ). Just spray, get a q-tip and see if it will bounce back. If not, then your out of luck, and will need to replace tonearm.
If it's your RCA cables, make sure you have them replace @ the root / PC board. Don't just splice it.
Good luck!
