Does anyone know ( the freq., ohms, whatever it is) the voltmeter is supposed to read while tuning the pitch control circuit board. I've done this several times before just not in a while, and i cannot remember the exact readout number. Please forgive my lack of electrical terminology. I am good with tools tho.

Has anybody successfully done it the hard way: taking an LED, installing it and a new resistor? If so, do tell. I tried to just install an LED (naiively), and burned it out because I disregarded the fact that the old bulb drew much more power. If anybody doesn't know, I will be back to tell you about it soon, I am going for white LEDs so I can finally see my stylus in the dark. one love

one of my mk2 1210s has been having issues with being @ the right speed. the first time this started was over a year ago, it used to kinda wobble or slow down for a second so i took the table apart and cleaned the pitch slider with tuner cleaner and canned air hoping that it, ( the pitch control) was the problem and not the motor. this worked for bout a year and a half. now the new problem with it is that sometimes it plays slower than the setting on the pitch control. i repeated the cleaning process and it works halfway. if the table is pitched down and i bring it up to zero it will play at the right speed, but if the table is pitched up and i bring it down to zero it plays too slow. when the table is at zero it works sort of. it will be playing and then the green light turns off and the table slows down 2% but if i press the pitch slider it will come back on and play at the right speed. the platter turns smoothly without wobble but just not at the speed its suspose to be. it has this problem on and off as i'm using it.

anybody have this problem before? i'm hoping its just the pitch slider thats going out and not the knob/speed part inside the table.

does someone know how to fix this or know of a good place to buy parts for 1200s?
When you pick up the tonearm to put it on the record, it just springs back to where it usually rests(scratching the record in the process)- like it's spring-loaded. It moves freely up and down, but just wants to retract back, and strongly (if there wasn't anything to stop it on the way back, it'd do a complete 360, or more!) I played with the weight, anti-skate, height adjuster- and no luck.
Anyone got any info, or had a similar thing happen? It feels like the problem is in the tonearm mount somewhere.
Any good on-line repair shops?

I inherited a couple 1200s from my buddy.
One of the decks has started to deteriorate. The output is getting weaker and weaker. Perhaps it's attributed to the amount of slobbering people have done to the niteclub cart trying to fix it (I know - terrible - no tongue).

Upon removal of the cart - I see that 2 of the 4 contact ports on the tone arm are smashed into the back. i.e. only 2 are protruding and bouncy.

SOOO! Looks like I need new contacts. Can I purchase these seperately? (I see 2 mini philips holding the screwie bit of the tone arm on) or do I have to buy a whole new arm?

One of my turntables is creating slight distortion in the highs/mids of records and slightly less bass than the other turntable. I have tried different needles and different records, all producing the same result. I've tried cleaning the contact points between the tonearm and cartridge, to no avail.

I'm trying to record mixes and this is driving me nuts. The resulting recordings have every other record sounding distorted, as if the highs/mids are clipping, but I'm not redlining the signal.
Any help?

TECHNICS SL-1200 MK5 Silver
Price: 479-499
Description from Platinum Records:
The latest edition of the turntable that has been the industry standard for 20+ years. The 1200MK5 replaces the 1200M3D, making a couple improvements along the way: 1) the tonearm construction has been improved, which should lead to better skip resistance. 2) the brake adjustment is now more accessible. Simply remove the record and slipmat and it?s possible to adjust the platter?s breaking time with a screwdriver. Other than that, this is exactly the same as the M3D, which had these differences from the original MK2: 1) power switch is sunken to prevent accidental turn-off 2) includes a button which overrides the pitch control to zero (regular speed) 3) no "click" at zero on the pitch control 4) comes with a high quality Technics 2 piece slipmat 5) Dust cover does not include hinges. The Technics 1200 turntable is still our #1 recommendation, in any model number. The feel and durability are unmatched. It remains the best turntable available, and one that is used in 99% of all venues.

The Technics 1200 turntable is still our #1 recommendation, in any model number. The feel and durability are unmatched. It remains the best turntable available, and one that is used in 99% of all venues. Some newer turntables may have more features, but this is the superior overall product, and is the preferred choice for all types of djing. The high torque (motor strength), accurate pitch (speed control), quality tone arm (aids in skip resistance), and superior sound are the standards by which all other turntables are judged. The body and major components are made of steel (whereas most other turntables are made of plastic). The bottom of the body is made of a dense rubber that eliminates distortion and feedback and adds extra weight for stability. Most of the basic parts are readily available and user replaceable. The resale value is also very high.

FEATURES:

+/-8 pitch control
8 pitch control reset button
33/45 rpm
height adjustable tone arm with anti-skating control and better skip resistance
easy brake adjustment
pop-up stylus light
INCLUDED

dust cover (without hinges)
high quality slipmat
45 adaptor
headshell with weight
Actual Shipping Weight 32 lbs.

Product rating: 4.4 from 10 product reviews
