Tarot and the Game of Life

I started writing a post, but it grew too long so I made it a blog instead - I have hypergraphia, you see, I just can't stop writing sometimes. At school, teachers would always say my writing was too long-winded and at university I always struggled to squeeze my essays into the allotted word count. But again, I go off on a tangent! Back to the point... I've wrote a brief paragraph-by-paragraph synopsis of the blog so anyone is interested in any of it, or with answers to any of the questions posed, can go to the blog and skip to the relevant bit without having to go through the ordeal of reading the whole thing:

An account of a dream I had that gave me an interest in Tarot, and what I gained from it.

Beginning working with Tarot: 3 cards crop up an awful lot. Anyone got any ideas what they're trying to tell me?

Some difficulties I have with Tarot and a request for help

A bit about my beliefs about the universe in general, or lack thereof

How these beliefs relate to Tarot and a question about other people's beliefs

A question about the book Game of Life, by Timothy Leary

What 3 cards keep popping up?

Death, The Hermit, and The Knight of Wands all pop a hell of a lot, but their position in the spread varies. The most common spread I do is a simple 3 card one (card 1 = current situation, card 2 = problems affecting the situation, card 3 = way i should deal with the situation / possible future outcome). For a while The Hermit card nearly always came up as card 3, but in my last reading it came up as card 2. The Death card varies it's position but it's frequency is very appropriate since I seem to be going through a period of internal change and there have been external changes in my life as well (reinforcing the idea of "as above, so below" or "as within, so without"). The Knight of Wands, too, varies it's position a lot, sometimes literally leaping out of the deck as I shuffle, as if it's chosen me, and this is the one I find most difficult to interpret. I'm a total beginner!

        Card by Card:
"Oh what an entangled web we weave, when at first we attempt to deceive." The Hermit is the seeker of the truth so ask yourself, are you looking at the situation truthfully? Sometimes we choose to deceive ourselves. Go within and really be brutally honest with yourself.

The Knight of Wands represents the movement in plans or thinking. Right side up: Speed. Reversed: Slower or even not moving. Maybe you need to pay attention to how the situation is progressing. If it is jumping out of the deck, you need to heed this card. It's trying to tell you something. Resist any situation that brings temptation or quarrel. The changes you are facing may be more unexpected that you think.

I think your assessment of Death is right on. Remember in the circle of life, Death marks the end of one cycle and the start of another. Welcome the chance for renewal and rebirth, regardless of how dark it may seem before the dawn.

Keep up with your studies, you're doing great. A lot of people have a hard time with the court cards, including myself when I first started.

It's funny you should mention temptation - I've had more interest from women recently than I normally do, but mostly from friend's girlfriends or ex-girlfriends they're still hung up on. And, yes, as a wise baboon once said "change is good" and I do welcome all of the change that's happening at the moment. As for looking at the situation truthfully, I dunno, but I should perhaps have a ponder about that one. Thanx.

I note that The Hermit can refer to initiation, if your interests run in that direction.

Well, if by initiation you mean the sort of initiation Phil Hine described as "recogniz[ing] that you are moving through a threshold of
change - that you are in a period of transition" and "a process of intense self-discovery and reappraisal", then yeah, I'd say it's appropriate.
