facing direction when reading..

topic posted Sat, May 10, 2008 - 12:38 AM by  ✮❃Atcandéla✮❃

There may be an obvious answer to my question but wanted to get some feedback.

When doing a reading for someone, which direction should the 'reader' place the cards?
facing towards the reader or towards the inquirer?

I ask this because the last time I read for someone (celtic cross layout) I had the cards facing me,
while the inquirer was across from me.
When I caught this.. I later flipped the cards to read as they were facing her and of course it shifted the
interpretation a bit?

Any suggested thoughts on which direction to face the cards when doing a reading?

:) ~A~

    Cards facing You.
It should be a consultation, not an explanation of the cards. You read the TAROT for the questioner, the q doesn't have to controle if you read them right. You can show them some images, but You are the expert.

They listen, you read, cards facing You...:)))

many of the people i read for are friends who are learning tarot and often times, i'll sit on floor in my living room and sit next to them. this way they see the cards as i do when they are turned over and they can see how the spread lay out looks to me....

      it really just depends....

Cards toward the reader... just like any book. Like the idea of having the questioner sit beside.

The reformed pentagram ritual would assume that there is a real sky out there after all. This sky changes. ascendants change, thus attribution to stars that are angels change. Essentially even the magnetic pole changes, shifting towards the land of Magog (Russia) @ 25 miles per year (sic). Now where is the east? The sun does not rise there. lulu.com/astrology & matrix tarot deck

Yeahhh you are right, cards can face anyway anyhow, upside down reversed, for you against you.
You know what it is with Tarot? Just do as you feel best and that is OK, it's boggus anyway!

One instincitevly faces the chice star. Noqwadays the rituals are mangled, it is best to check the horizon. Do not use at time when serpens capout is rising. This would be worse than RVBEVS. Hydra and Cetus ascendig to be avoided. regulus is cool but not Alphard. Pjoenix at the meridian for money matters and Fed. Facing is timing. For real estae use Moon in auriga (moving) and Moon in Sextans (settling). Avopid Moon in Orion (WTC). The ancients faced the stars, not the cardinal directions. This lost knowledge is nowadays known as applied astronomy.

Perhaps it would help to associate the time of Lovers in synch with Gemini?
If so the following suggestions might be helpful.

It would surprise that the Lovers were two stars once when Tarot was a young
initiation. someone called these stars Gemini. They are located to the left
of zodiacal Auriga and The Orion Stargate. Here is the NASA ephemeris
giving an idea of the time in question for the Sun to enter Gemini, after
              its yearly sojourn in Orion.

              2008-Aug-10 00:00 Cnc

The Moon enters Gemini after Auriga and the Orion Stargate.

When I met Simon and we exchanged readings, we sat across from one another and as he laid out the cards he faced them towards me. He said he's been doing this for years and he already knows what they look like. It was quite nice for me. Unfortunately I'm not quite there yet. I like to face them towards myself so I can study them. I might pick one up and show it to the recipient while I'm talking about it, inquiring minds want to know, but then I lay it back down in it's spot.

There is no perfect, correct answer to this.

The cards should be easy for you to read and interpret. Many people learn with the cards facing the querent and become comfortable with that, others read with the cards facing themselves. Personally, I prefer the latter.

When illustrating particular points to the client, there is a benefit to turning the cards around when pointing out relevant items - it draws the focus in dramatically, as opposed to merely pointing at a card they've been staring at already while you speak to them.

Ultimately, though, it comes back to your comfort level and how you feel most confident reading.

    Best of luck!

Whatever floats your boat, honeys lol

If it means you need to stick an antennae on your head to get in touch with your higher intuition then so be it. Ultimately as long as it increases one's intuition and what you read resonates with the reader in the right ways, it does not matter how and what you do to get there.
