i bought my ex all kinds of loot for xmas (digital camera, jewelry, etc.) and she broke up with me shortly thereafter. i was pissed but didn't ask for any of it back (i got more ghetto-class than that). the more i think of it, the more i realize it was such a splendid move.
moral of the story: don't break up until after a major holiday or else you'll miss out on some major loot!!
