Hey, can anyone suggest some hotels in the Throwdown area??? We're not real familiar with the Berkely area.....
; )
We don't have a lot of money, but don't want to stay in a scary rat hole!
Any pointers would be lovely.....

Thanks!

    As of yesterday

    Extended Stayamerica
    3650 Mandela Pkwy, Oakland, CA
    (510) 923-1481

had 19 queen room ($104) available and 5 with double queens ($114).

Meliza describes the place as "fine".

But don't dwaddle on booking... There's model UN thing going on at the University that's gobbling up hotel rooms quick.

Up the road toward Richmond a bit, there's also

    Best Inn El Cerrito/Super 8
6009 Potrero Ave, El Cerrito, CA
    (510) 232-0900

There's 12 room open for $95 for 2 queen beds.

Meliza's never been there, so no review for you!

My husband and I will be staying at the Super 8 in El Cerito which is about 7-10 minutes away from the event. According to the reviews it's a good hotel and it's right off the freeway. Check them out at Super 8.com

Oh my god, Blume! I had the worst experiences with holiday inn express staff too! They're really rude! The place is fine though, so I keep going back...

If you don't mind crossing the bay you have 3 decent cheap potions in SF hostels.

There is the Green tortoise (sketchy neighborhood but decent hostel)

Hostelling international recently opened a new hostel in downtown SF.
Don't know if they still have the one on Mason St.

If you have a car, the hostel at Fort Mason is nice.

Just checked the site. Here's a link to the SF page. The Fishermens wharf one is the fort mason one I was talking about.
If you want to be IN the city near public transport, pick the ciy center or downtown.

They're not bad for what you pay. Much better than some seedy $60-80+ hotels

I know, the place is really nice, so I can't help going back each time... but their staff certainly leaves something to be desired... maybe we should complain if we have problems this time... I really love their breakfast and the rooms are really nice!
