I believe they're still doing roller skating at the Roxy in NYC...I believe on Wednesday nights (?)

We got into this a little bit over in the '80s Whores tribe. There's a skating rink somewhere in Redwood City, but there is (was) also a closer one down on 101 just past the airport. We're not sure if it's still open, though. I went to that one a few times back in the day before moving to NYC a few years ago. I even rented it out for a birthday party once and played "Xanadu" a few times. The main thing I heard at the end of the night besides "thanks for inviting me, this was fun!" was "it was so awesome skating around the rink to Xanadu, it was like a childhood dream come true" or something similar. We should see if that place is still open and plan a Xanadu/'80s skating party.

---OK, I just did a little online search, and that rink mentioned above was the Rolladium in San Mateo, and it apparently closed in April 2002. Doh! The next best (and closest) rink is the Redwood Roller Rink. I found this site that has a Wednesday "gay" skate: rainbowskate.com/
According to rainbowskate, the Rolladium closed in 2001 so they moved to the Redwood Roller Rink. It's like halfway to San Jose almost, so maybe that's a bit too far... Anyone?

According to a few Bay Area webguides, the only other nearby place for rollerskating is San Ramon, which I think is just as far or even farther than Redwood City. But I think you can get to San Ramon on BART for people who don't have cars.

The Wednesday skate at Roxy is still on their schedule as far as I know. I always wanted to go the entire time I lived in NYC, because I heard it was really fun and the crowd was good people, but of course I never made it over there for a skate...
