I got roped into doing a town spelling b charity. I am a smartish person but can not spell. I have allways relyed on the spell check, failed third grade besause I could not read write or spell, now I am in this crazy spireling panic over this freekin spelling be next Monday. It would be ok if it were my friends, but there will be kids, town mover and shakers, I am a freking real estate agent in this town...at least I was.

I am a horrible speller and I ran a second grade spelling bee before. They give you a list. The judges have a list too and a dictionary. You don't have to know how to spell. The word is righ there in front of you. You'll be fine. Also, when I taught second grade and was writing on the board, often I would forget how to spell words and I would teach the students how to use the dictionary. All of my students knew how to use the dictionary when they left me. Also, I think they enjoyed seeing an adult who admitted she didn't know everything. One time the school custodian found a misspelling in a class poster I made! I thanked him and asked him to keep his eye out for anymore.

Tonight's the nite!
02/12Thanks. I am quite releived this morning, the day of the "BEE" to find that I am part of a team that has one designated speller (actually we will be writing on a tablet that prob. shows up on a screen). Now I am actually psyched to do it since i will not be singled out as the "spelling looser"! In fact, I want to be the designated speller (well maybe not on account of my rotten handwriting).
On another note, I want to start a vibrant series of Tribes parallelling real ones for bad spellers; it will save the members from having to write their posts in msword, and then copy and past it ot Tribe. The only rule will be "no criticizing for bad spelling!!"
On a cosmic tribalesque standpoint, I'd bet "creative spellers" have a lot in common.

Most likely laziness.
Actually, I have found my misspelling are largely due to growing up in the South and having poor pronunciation.
I agree I hate the cut and pasting I have to do in my tribe messages.

Re: Tonight's the nite!
03/18well it is open source firefox. Get someone in the UK to do an UK English plug in for it! (or just right click and click "add to dictionary" lol )
Yea English really needs an overall, the spelling needs to be revised, and the words need to be standardized between places that use American English, and British English!
