It was a beautiful day when I entered the Badjao community in Zamboanga, Mindanao.
I haven't felt so much warmth as before. Here, where the generosity of spirit transcends the mind and decorum that separates unknowingly. The Badjao people are the seafarers of the Philippine south: Ocean is life, a boat--made to drift the soul rather than just make the body survive. I am honored to be among them that day. Wed, November 1, 2006 - 9:00 AMIndeed, a beautiful blog.
The first time i saw the Badjao was when i was little and visiting the Philippines. We saw them diving for tossed coins off the side of boats and I marveled at the phenomenon. Little did i know these were the sea gypsies of the Philippines back then but they've held my facination. -
