It strikes a major contrast between the main burn of the Man, and the temple burn, which was nearly quiet this last year. To me, it illustrates the difference between celebration and remembrance.

yes, i was in the fire ring around the man when he blew up in 2007....
i thought they used a ridiculous amount of fireworks for both the man and crude awakening....
i remember thinking to myself....wow....that's a lot of fireworks...ok....it's still going....still going....i want the big boom already!
but then again, i'm a tad bit impatient for things i'm very excited about!

Penguin, that, as you probably know, was the "Crude Awakening" art burn that occurred after they burned the man up in 2007 at the Burningman festival. It's probably the largest deliberate LNG explosion ever in the US.

The main burn of the Man at BM 2008 was supposed to have been as impressive. Unfortunately, one of the squibs setting off a propane jet didn't quite work. The blow was lopsided.

Big booms are coming to the burningman regionals as well. This year at Interfuse in Booneville, MO, they set off concussion fireworks at ground level (20 of them) to make a big boom. Wished I had a video to share, but it was awesome.

wow! nice explosions!

fireworks....like over bahston harbar...those big fairy dust flowers...that send crackling showers of sparks, creating a weeping willow sparkly smoke effect

I like fire balls....HUGE fire bawls!

It's called a BLEVE.......Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion.

Liquefied natural gas, or LNG, is probably the most BLEVE-capable. The tankers that carry LNG are floating bombs just waiting to go off.

There are two detonations that take place in a BLEVE. The first detonation is of the stuff that's already gaseous. Then, when the liquid changes state due to the heat and becomes gas, you get a second detonation and subsequent fireball. The shock wave can knock you down at distances of several hundred yards. And you WILL feel the heat.

the deeper the BOOM the better. if i don't get shaken up, it ain't worth it. temporarily partially deafened works too. Whether that's a quarter-stick on the street 10 feet away or a professional class B burst as close as legally possible... well it's all the same to me. But being in the NE it's more likely to be a professional display.

Right in the middle of a show, right after a false finale, I can’t help but put in a battery of “Golden Willows”. They don’t bring up the pace but they do get a great “oh, ah” factor; and you always see the young couples snuggle together (that is of course if you can see the audience). Then you hit a couple of titanium salute to wake them up and bring the pace back up.

Although I had some great star mines in the last show I did. They had tiger tails rising, went dark just before apogee, the ended with electric crackle.

For me - it is those moments when about 20 go off at once high up lighting the whole sky with colour... Especially over water - like a wide river or lake

I thought i'd add this topic in...doesn't seem to have been one in the bit i've seen. And since this is a fireworks & such tribe, why NOT ask?

I'll start this party off w/mine. Follow up if ya wanna!

My personal fave is a movie effect that's beautiful to see, yes, but also to smell & FEEL. It's called a Lampari. I know y'all have seen it, cuz it's a movie effect common when they set things on fire. For lack of a better term, it's the fire ball that looks like a mushroom cloud as it goes up into the air. You can be standing about 20' away & feel the heat from this baby, as well as the "whoomp" shake of this effect as it goes off.

After that, my 2nd fave is the that whistle & kinda "squiggle" off in all directions in the air. I think they're called "fishes" by the fireworks community. They seem just so...festive & fun!

Well, that's my start to this. Weigh in, I'd like to get to know what y'all think!
