This is a classic demonstration thought n every fire investigation course. The tricks are to keep enough air circulating to keep a tea light burning near the top of the containment while keeping the air still enough for the vapors of the combustible liquid to slowly rise to the source of ignition. Vapors too saturated, nothing happens. Vapors too lean, nothing happens. Vapors just right (between LEL and UEL) and you get a low velocity pop and a small puff of flame. Not for indoor experimentation by any stretch of the imagination.
