I don't know if anyone's heard but Jendayi's hosting Atlanta Bellypalooza.

It's a 2 day event showcasing some of Atlanta's best instructors at the Spring 4th Center downtown (MARTA accessible). There are workshops for cabaret and tribal dancers and it's all levels. Each workshop (90 min) is only $20. No typo, it's really just $20. There's also a Saturday night show for $15. You should come.

Bellydance Basics, 6:30-7:30, Join us in this introductory class as we learn the basic movements of middle eastern dance in a welcoming and joyous environment that is accessible to all. No experience required.

Intermediate Bellydance Technique, 7:30-8:30—Learn luxurious isolations, practice strengthening drills, and try out new combos to add to your repertoire!

6-week classes begin Sept 3rd, Drop-in, $10, 6-week class card, $54

Sundays 4 p.m. Dance Movement Meditation--combines breathing and gentle, flowing movements to create a healing meditative state. We will utilize a wide variety of techniques – including dance, fluid yoga, bellydance, streching, deep breathing, veilwork and sufi whirling. 6-week classes begin Sept. 6th. Moving to Georgia

I'm moving from Virginia to the Athens area, and I was wondering what the belly dance scene was like around there. I've been a student of the same teacher, Kawakib, in Virginia for over 5 years now, so it's really sad for me to be leaving her classes and all of my fellow students. Kawakib teaches Egyptian style, folkloric and Tribal Odyssey, which is a group improvisation style she developed. I also organized a charity dance team here, Bellies for Breasts. So I'm leaving a lot of great dancers and good friends behind.

We leave the first of April-yikes!- and I know I probably won't look into classes immediately-- will have to get settled first.

Moving to Atlanta

Not necessarily Tribal Fusion as it has come to be known, but just *other than* cabaret, egyptian, or tribal/ATS. I'm looking for a good teacher, or just people to dance with. Does anyone go to the drumcircle at the land trust?

Get involved in Middle Eastern Music!

I would like to start a bi-monthly music salon. What I want to do with this is to get musicians together to play and rehearse music mainly from the Middle East, North Africa, and the Balkans. Everyone, no matter your musical level, is encouraged to attend these salons – drummers, melody players, dancers aka zill players!

Last fall I spent 5 months in Cairo, Egypt where I began my journey into Arabic music. I really don’t want to loose what I’ve learned, so I’d like to see if anyone in the Atlanta area is interested in coming to weekly music rehearsals/ jam sessions/ learning sessions about Arabic music. I would like to be able to share what I’ve learned so I can practice and not forget it! Any instrument would be welcome, just keep in mind that quartertones are harder to play on some instruments than others.

I have some sheet music from this semester in Cairo, but I’m open to learning things by ear as well, which is how it really is done. The
sheet music is all in C as I play the violin, so any of you b flat or F or alto or bass players be prepared to transpose the music if you want to play it.

I don’t profess in any shape, form, or fashion to be an expert in Middle Eastern music, just a student who wants to grow her skills with an ensemble! I would like this to be very low key and fun and hopefully a way to grow a handful of students and musicians that appreciate and want to perform Middle Eastern music, especially so that when the big names come in town, we can really benefit from their instruction.

I am just playing facilitator for this event. I will share my knowledge and I hope others will participate and do the same. Everyone is encouraged to bring both sheet music and songs to the salon for us to play. You do not have to read music to be here, nor do you have to have any experience in music to participate. I would like to be able to foster a community of people wanting to learn music and be able to play at haflas and events.

I ask everyone bring a donation of $5 cash for rehearsal space for each rehearsal.

“Dynamic Duets” (3 Hours Total)
Duet combinations with Funky Fusion Flare taught by Yasmine assisted by Magic Hips Dancer, Huriyyah. Explore new ways to incorporate partner work into your routines whether it is for a Duet choreography or as part of a group performance. This class will cover some spicy yet mesmerizing partner combinations that will have you interacting with your dance partner and exploring a new dance connection. “Saiidi-Inspired Pop Choreography: How to create folkloric-inspired and other choreography”(4 hours total)

This is a great workshop set for all dance levels who want to get more out of their folkloric training, are choreographing for the first time, and/or seeking to teach their choreography more efficiently and effectively. Students will be able to take home a very upbeat pop choreography, new teaching/learning skills, as well as the tools to take their own choreographies to the next level.

Friday, July 17: Creating and teaching choreographies, using folkloric moves and styling with modern music, Saiidi moves, styling, and other technique, introduction to the choreography- framework and combinations. Students should bring pen and paper to take notes. Written choreography and some notes will be provided. There will be bouncing/hopping moves so please wear proper support! No props needed.

Saturday July 18: Applying the choreography framework: full choreography learned with emphasis on transitions. It is best if students take Friday if they want to keep up in Saturday's class. There will be no technique taught on Saturday's class, only choreography.

Selling Tribalcon weekend pass due to illness!!

My eye has decided to hemorrhage this week so I need to take it easy and not overdo it. I have archery nationals too, and am vending and performing at the show so something has to give. How fun is that restaurant??? A friend of mine took me there and I had one of the best times that I've ever had in a Middle Eastern restaurant! Nicola is so cool! I was so surprised when he got everyone up in the restaurant and had everyone dancing in a circle! And he even danced as well! I really like how he supports the bellydance community by offering his place as a showcase of the various solo and groups acts that come from different schools/troupes there. Oh, how I wish St. Louis had a similar showcase!

1) would you be interested in a "Health and Wellness for Bellydancers" workshop? This would include Yoga, Core Conditioning, and Cardio geared toward the bellydancer's special needs and fitness. Also included would be a natural medicine discussion with a Naturopathic doctor...

Metal Fringe or other Belly Drape stuff for sale in Atlanta?

on Friday, July 25th at 7:30pm on the Historic Lawrenceville Square
in Lawrenceville, GA.

Workshops with our out of town guests!

It is a long standing tradition to have an out of town guest at our summer Red Light show and to invite them to teach a workshop....this year we have TWO! The workshops will be taking place at Red Light (veryexciting!) so space is limited to 20 people for each workshop. The workshops WILL sell out (you learned your lesson at TribalCon, right?)so register early.

The schedule for during the day will be:

Registration will take place at 12 noon at Red Light Cafe.

12:30-2:30 Burlesque-esque with Onca- Get in touch with your vaudeville attitude, with badass strengthening drills, work on dance combos, theatre exercises, and more! How to walk, emote, etc...Now that you know how to dance, how do you PERFORM?

~The Mezmer Society was founded in autumn 2007, debuting at the Yard Dogs Road show in Asheville and and this year they were invited to teach and perform at TribalFest in CA! Onca is the Director of Baraka Mundi and August is the President of the Accordian club, together they are the Mezmer Society, fusing the spirit of the speak easy with bellydance.

2:30-4:30pm ATS formations, fades and combos with Devyani!- Our favorite subjects!!!

~Devyani performs pure American Tribal Style Bellydance (ATS) in the FatChanceBellyDance format. ATS is a modern style of bellydance
with roots in Egyptian bellydance and stylistic influences from Spain and India . The dancers interact through a system of non-verbal cues
to create a fresh, high energy performance unique to each venue and performance. This style is the launching pad for many Tribal Fusion groups. All pieces performed tonight will be in the traditional ATS improvisational style perfected by creator, Carolena Nericcio.

Costuming Sale Tuesday in Decatur!

TWO vendors will be selling costuming and jewelry this Tuesday at Several Dancers Core in Decatur, before and after Awalim's Basic Technique and Tribal Bootcamp classes (7 and 8 pm respectively). Designer fusion, caberet and tribal costuming will be available for sale by myself of Beledi Boutique and tribal belts and wire jewelry will be offered by Lisa. Please come out and enjoy the sale, and drop in on the class while you're there!

Each class is $72 for the Six Week Session ($12 x 6), 2 classes is $130 (a 10% discount)- drop in classes are $15
Registration takes place 30 minutes before the first class of each session.

We will learn techniques for solid dance wear designed and reinforced to
withstand the rigors of a regular use. Starting with the tribal bra top,
emphasis will be place on building a sturdy foundation that you can then
decorate to your liking. Sewing techniques specific to creating tribal dance
costuming will be reviewed so that you can sew like a pro.
Tassels of all shapes and sizes for hair, hips, or elsewhere- bring a couple
links of embroidery floss and we will share colors. Yarn will be available for
sell or bring some of your own liking.
Belts to fit you and no one else. Custom design your own belt with sure fire
sewing techniques for rock-hard dance ensembles. You put so much time
into the costume, let’s make sure it lasts.
Materials You Will Need:
Bring a bra that is a slightly too big in the cup. ¼ yard Fabric of your liking,
bobbles galore, trims, a little sew kit, and your imagination. Sukari will
have some specific items for sale at cost that are utilized for reinforcing the
pieces.

Also, designer costuming will be available for sale by Beledi Boutique so you
can complete your new look with funky pants or a gypsy top!

I'm going to be teaching a Poi for Belly Dancers workshop on Saturday, April 5, 2008 at Jai Shanti Yoga at 2:30 in the afternoon. We're going to be covering glow poi, flag poi, veil poi, and last but not least, fire poi and how they can be used by the modern belly dancer. This class is appropriate for cabaret, tribal, or my personal favorite, tribaret dancers. Non-belly dancing poi dancers will also be accommodated as poi principles, dance theory and fire safety will also be covered. Thanks for supporting the ladies April 17th. The show was a blast and the ladies looked beautiful. (The food was fantastic, too) We've already planned our next show for July 17th

Also, thanks for those that turned out Saturday at the "Relay for Life" in West Point. Even tho' they had some serious sound system problems, it didn't stop Troupe Amena from perfoming! Cashimere cranked the tunes on her car system and we rocked the parking lot!

Looking forward to seeing everyone this coming Saturday at the "Arm Isolation and Undulation" Workshop!

Ansuya Updates: Food & Online Registration

Hello, hello! Bringing you some updates for this weekend's Ansuya workshop:

1. Athens has plenty of places to eat BUT catering is available all weekend for the Ansuya workshop. Dondero's International Kitchen will be catering - http://www.donderoskitchen.com . An order form is now available online at www.southernfusion.net - here's the direct link: http://www.southernfusion.net/files/Donderos_Pre_Order_Form.pdf

Food must be pre-ordered by March 13th - you can call, email, or fax your order directly to Dondero's (don't send it to me or Fatina!) and payment is expected at the time of the order. The food will be delivered to the seminar location at no extra charge.

2. Just a reminder - online registration for the Ansuya workshop will end Friday morning. Registration will be an additional $10 at the door, space permitting.

Thanks to everyone that came to the Veil and Zill workshop in Lagrange yesterday! It was a blast! There was 15 of us twirling 30 veils..... beautiful! We're already planning the next Intensive for undulations and arm isolations. I'll post when the date is set!

* SFF 2008 is bigger and better than last year! We listened to our SFF 2007
Attendee feedback, and made several changes and upgrades accordingly. Please
stay tuned to this site for more information detailing this year's changes and what to
expect at our event.

Some highlights include: We have added a Specialty Class room to focus on our
regions specifics dancers needs - including classes specifically geared toward
advanced and professional dancers, prop classes and specialty topics. These
classes are limited to only 15 participants, space is limited, so register early to
reserve your spot.

We have also changed our location to Athens, GA to ease our attendees' experience.
The new location is at the Athens Classic Center, with easy access to parking, food,
hotels and all SFF 2008 events.

This year we have increased our instructors with many options gear specifically to
tribal and cabaret attendees. Expect a weekend packed with classes, shopping, great
shows and a ton of fun!

Hey y'all,

Just wanted to share some updates on the upcoming Ansuya workshop in Athens, GA!

* Due to conflicting events in Athens, there is a new location for the workshop. We will be at Memorial Park on Gran Ellen Drive - address and directions are available on the website.

* The Performers Registration Form has now been posted! If you are interested in dancing in the show, you must email all information and music to Samira, our show manager. Space is limited, available first come, first serve.

* Don't forget! Early Bird Registration ends February 24th, so don't delay in registering!
