Turns out that he is working on a study for seizures and medication and knows a lot about them. He spent a lot of time with us even though we came in just after closing and we felt really good about the information that we got. Ultimately, we decided to wait on doing bloodwork. We will see if she has another.

One of my dogs isn't really interested in "dog parks" per se, she is more of a loose-running explorer. We used to go to the Albany Bulb a lot, which was great because they would never run off and I never got poison oak. Also the water seemed to be good for her skin. Since the oil spill, we haven't really been out there. In addition to the toxicity of many parts, the spirit of the place has really changed.

So, our current favorites are:

Redwood Park- We have a few loops that we do, depending on our mood and the weather. The only places that don't work are the Stream Trail and the lower entrance off of Pinehurst (just because they have to be on leash for a while there.

Tilden - From lone oak, take the trail that runs next to the stream, then up (I think it is curran trail) the first trail to the left then back to the trailhead on Meadows Canyon trail There is also a small trailhead at the top of the tower trail that Iike.

Strawberry canyon-There is a trailhead before you get to the botanic garden on Centennial Drive. I like to cut up through the Woodbridge Metcalf Grove (a beautiful Redwood Grove) to do it as a loop.

Shell Ridge Open Space/Castle Rock Park- These are in Walnut Creek and take at least 25 minutes to get to. Castle Rock is absolutely stunning and totally worth it. My dogs love to RUN at both of these parks like they don't do in the forest as much.

What are yours?

Places such as Buffalo Bill's in Hayward, Park St Bar and Grill on Piedmont Ave, Calzone's on Columbus in S.F. If you have any other suggestions please let me know. Thanks

My dog is good with other dogs, but he's kind of boring for me to take out because he just smells stuff and I want to hang out with dogs who are more entertaining. Mine loves meeting new humans too. Especially when they have treats. I'm in Oakland/west-Emeryville area. Writing me direct is good as I don't remember to come on tribe too often.

We just came back from Sibley, which is nice because parts are paved and other parts are really rocky, so it isn't just a big mudbath.

The other day, we also went to Mountain View Cemetery. Dogs have to be on leash, but there are lots of dogs around and it is a really beautiful and peaceful spot. You can always stay on pavement or paths and there is also a lot of lawn with very little mud.

I had mentioned in another tribe that I have had problems in the past with cows at Wildcat Canyon. Has anyone else had this or problems at other parks? Both of these times, calves were around, maybe they were just protecting them...the second instance was REALLY SCARY!

About 1.5 years ago, a friend and I had our 3 dogs (all off leash) and were looking around the area where the insane asylum used to be. there were a lot of cows hanging out and I don't remember how it started, but all of the sudden, we realized one of the cows was running at us. We grabbed our dogs, I put my hand up and yelled at the cow to stop. Luckily, it did and we were able to scram. It kind of followed us and was acting territorial, but not aggressive at this point.

I went back about 6 months later and avoided that area. i was by myself. I was heading up a steep trail cutting through the middle of the park...way out there. I saw that I was coming up to a cluster of cows that were spread out across the trail, so I put my dogs on leash, figuring that would be safer. As I approached, the cows cleared the trail, but they were on either side. I opted toward wishful thinking (partly because of the difficulty of terrain and because my dogs were on leash), since the cows had cleared the path, they were giving me permission to get through, right? No, once I got near by (the cows were now ABOVE me) since the fire road was set below, one of the cows started eyeing me. I tried yelling at it and putting my hand up, as I had done 6 months ago to try and pass, but as I moved another step forward, it dug its front hoof into the ground and snorted. I knew that this was a sign that it may charge me. I took a few steps back and it started running at me. I put my hand up and yelled and it stopped. I took a very long way around, part of which I think I had to practically crawl it was so steep!

When I left the park, there was a ebrp police person in the lot. I filed a report with him. He was very nice and has a dog, too. He said that the cows managers would want to know. I avoided going back there until about a month ago. i have never had a problem at another park like this and I haven't heard of others having a problem at Wildcat...anyone else have cow stories?
