Went last night to see the boys...
Was not dissappointed - wasn't sure what to expect as i've heard different stories. Also, I had not been to a House of Blues for a show. Not too bad - except there's no seating. - yeah - I know - I'm getting old.
The band sounded great - the new stuff is good - still true to the roots...
I was mesmerized again by Wil's guitar playing - damn that guy is good!
Ian's voice is getting pretty raspy. It still has a remarkable strength - but some lyrics were almost croaked - while others were barely audible hoarse squeaks. Still, even with that said, there is a particular timbre and tone that only Ian has.
Chain smoking and flipping ashes and sparks all over the stage...mumbled, muffled, off-mike between song banter was indecipherable...Ian was prolly ripped to the gills - but still ultimately watchable - and more importantly - listenable.
Forays into a 'Walk on the Wild Side, everybody needs somebody to love...medly that sorts lost its energy...were kinda dull - but it was along night of standing. The Cutter, Rescue, and Dancing Horses were worth the 'off moments'.
A short show, time-wise, was actually just the right length, music-wise. They played an hour & 15 minutes with a 2 song encore - but it seemed just right. Go see them if you get the chance.
