Wow. I don't believe it's actually happening but i think our very minimal EC'ing is paying off! We don't do much more for it other than always make the "pssss" sound when we put Sequoia on the potty. He's been going in his potty first thing upon waking (overnight and post-nap) for almost a year now, but that's the only scheduled potty time. Occasionally when one of us goes pee we'll ask if he wants to go too, put him on the potty and make the "psss" sound while we go. Mostly he gets a kick out of the whole production but only sporadically pees himself.
Well, Jesse told me a week or so ago that Sequoia interrupted their playtime to look and him and say "Pssssss!' Jesse asked if he wanted to go pee in the potty and he shook his head yes. By the time they got there and got the diaper off he was already wet, but we were impressed that he *told* Jesse that he needed to (or just had, we're not sure).
Flash forward to yesterday, when Sequoia did the same thing with me. We got him on the potty and he 1) pee'd and 2) had a dry diaper! He then proceeded to do it about 5-6 times all evening (including a post-poop "psss"), running over to the potty every time. Wow! He totally has the idea now- and he's getting such a kick out of it too. I think now he's almost forcing himself to pee even the tiniest dribble coz he loves the show we put on. This is so neat! I'd been contemplating reading up on potty training because i figured we'd be starting to get more serious about in sometime this summer but he's a jump ahead of us!

Re: "Psssssssss!"
Mon, April 28, 2008 - 5:49 PMan update:
it's 2 weeks now and he's going strong! In fact, this weekend we were at a beach house with the in-laws and i packed a ton of diapers and wound up only using 3. He's not always that good, but i am impressed.
We did run into a problem that i thought i'd share. Now that he likes going in his potty, being away from the house creates it's own probs. We visited grandma the weekend before, and after an hour there he ran up to me and went "Pssssss!" I tried to coax him onto an adult potty, but it was just too scary. I ever tried sitting on it with him but no good. We took his pants off and took him in the backyard and told him it was ok to pee in the grass but he was distressed (and cold!). So- back into his diaper and he went in it a few times that day, but i felt so bad coz every time he came to me first and asked to go potty and i couldn't help him.
Upon returning i hit three local used-baby places hunting for an extra kiddy potty we could leave over at grandmas. No luck. I was getting frustrated, i hadn't expected to not be able to find any. Target only had the small-ring-that-fits-over-the-big-ring type, and we got one but he's still freaked out about sitting so high up on an adult potty. But then i remembered Ikea was by our house and not only did they have the perfect sized SIMPLE potty (i actually found one secondhand- but it was a weird size and played music and did backflips and pretty much was NOT what i wanted) but it was just $3.99! I thought i'd share that little find with y'all, if any of you are heading in the same direction with potty training.
I (heart) Ikea. I really do.

Re: "Psssssssss!"
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 9:10 PMTry carrying the extra potty in the trunk of your car. A few of my friends did this and it worked out great for them. At Ikea's prices it might be worth it to have one in each car and at grandma's!
I baught our used baby bjorn off of craigslist. I love craigslist!
