HE Machines

We just switched to an HE machine and I don't think I'm getting it quite right because now my diapers have a bit of a smell to them even clean out of the wash, where they never did before. I'm using half the lowest mark on the cap of Tide Free. Is that too much or too little? I've also been using an oxygen bleach that has enzymes in it, whereas I used to use a plain one. Maybe that's the problem?

any advice?

i have a HE machine....i wash with Charlie's Soap and a little bit of tea tree oil....if they are getting funky strip them with some blue dawn

i don't use bleach...i thought it hurt the diapers over time..broke the fibers down?

yeah- the water here is super soft. When i moved to Cali for 2 yrs, i even had to change my soap i was using for shampoo because of the difference.

thanks for that site, lyla. i haven't seen that so well-organized before.

are the detergent ratings specifically for HE machines, or for all washers? and i thought my bio-kleen was such a good detergent. they even sell it at my local cloth diaper store.

      i'm off to investigate more...

thanks again. even lower ratings for bio-kleen. it works well for me right now, so i'm going to at least finish off my brand-new box. then we'll see...

yeah, i was surprised at the low rating it gave. all i know is that i've been using the powder for two yrs now without problems. i've heard many mamas on this tribe say that the liquid sucks, but the powder is great. not sure what gives with the ratings.

i think it all comes down to what works for you and what kind of water you have...i used biokleen powder for months pre-baby and noticed that i still had lingering body odor in all of the shirt armpits..especially the work shirts. My friend 15 min away has a totally different water table and uses it without a problem.

i think it works in portland because we have really soft water. it gets my clothes REALLY clean, i love it. ( i have a HE machine, but it worked in my old top-loader as well)

and is made locally. maybe since its made locally its made for our water specifically? kinda makes sense?
