Re: geothermal power
Mon, May 21, 2007 - 11:54 AMOr, all you wanted to know about geothermal power but were afraid to ask....perhaps better suited to some alternative energies tribes, unless you aren't just link-dropping and can tie in how you feel it impacts the relationship between Earth and humanity. -

Re: geothermal power
Mon, May 21, 2007 - 2:50 PMwell, okay, its interesting to vibe out whats relevant per tribe, maybe this is a bit stretchy on things.
my point i suppose is that geothermal power is super clean, and thus the best high yeild alternative
for being freindly to the eco matrix.
is that a sufficient tie in?
as an aspie, everything connects to everything in myraids of ways, i can probably draw a few more
connections if it makes a difference to you.
on the other hand, if you think its off topic, i won't be hurt if you delete it, i'm dropping it lots of places,
i am sure it will get the attention i think it deserves somewhere or other.

Re: geothermal power
Mon, May 21, 2007 - 3:25 PMI guess I didn't delete it simply because I never knew that geothermal energy could be harnessed. I do have mixed feelings about the concept, as I wonder just how eco-friendly the extraction process is, if it departs in any way from the Earth-exploitation paradigm or if it is a 'hybrid'-- that is, is somewhat harmful in its process, but produces Earth-friendly by-products.
These types of issues can get quite complex. An ecopsychologist I know once asked rhetorically if he's really helping the Earth if a logger comes to him for counselling through his employee assistance program, which funds the sessions with the understanding that it will make him more productive on the job.
To be sure, none of us are innocent when it comes to the ecological footprint. -

Re: geothermal power
Mon, May 21, 2007 - 6:26 PMhhow eco freindly is it? a plant on less than an acre of land can generate the equivalent of most operational nuclear power stations.
There is no fumes, no fires, no exhaust, no pullution, and you don't have to dam up a river or create a new lake or any such other
thing.
it is by far the least ecologically damaging and sanest method devised by man to generate energy, including both solar and wind power
simply because those methods require much much more land space to come anywhere close to the same yeild. You'd have to coat thousands of acres in solar paneling, or have thousands of windmills to generate the same energy.
In short, geothermal power is the solution unlike any other solution, it is high yeild, (as high as nuclear) it can be done almost anywhere,
(wherever theres a water table and wherever theres no danger of seepage due to geological formations)
and it is of the possible choices the lowest in ecological impact. It would cost about three times as much to drill on average a geothermal
well as an oil well, since on average its about three times deeper, but unlike an oil well, the energy supply will never dwindle. This makes
it enormously cheaper than nuclear power.
Geothermal power is the great hidden and propaganda obfuscated energy solution that the nuclear power and oil industries, as well
as the military industrial complex do not want us to know about.

Re: geothermal power
Fri, May 25, 2007 - 9:23 PMWell I can see why...it truly tseems to hreaten the status quo in a way that's beyond reproach. Similary, hybrid and alternative cars are making an excruciatingly slow appearance on the market for the same reason. Culture and propaganda either persuade or restrain the majority from exercising their power as consumers by making alternatives unavailable or misinforming folks about the benefits.
