Wow - it's looking great

I finally got down there to lend a hand this Sunday. I'm not sure what I expected, but I'm really exicited about the new space.

The social area looks to be completely done. It's a great looking space. I got to peek into the medical room, much bigger than the old space. And I asked Ali if fire was allowed... YES! I can do fire, I'm sooo happy.

Stayed for about 2-1/2 hours, but the time flew by. I'm glad I was able to help a bit too.

Notes From Ali:

A large majority of building is done for the time being. However, we've got lots of little things piling up. Hanging mirrors, hanging other such items, painting door and wall trim, putting those in place, lots and lots of cleaning. We need someone super tall and with a super tall A frame ladder to put up the insulation in the med room (we couldn't fit the lift in). The garage door is KILLING me--it's hard to open and close and I need it fixed, though I'm pretty sure it's just the bottom line that's the problem. If someone with a truck can deliver a pallet jack for us that'd we super helpful. Lots more :-)

HUGS to our lighting goddess for giving us temporary lighting while we get all the electrical going. And applause for all of Steve V's hard work with Don and the electricians to give us permanent lighting!! They're due to start this week :-)

Keith is our new chair god. He'd been out of town, rode in and realized we were mid-move: suddenly Edges has our brand new beautiful chairs on their way to our butts.

YAY I am so excited to know that we'll all sit more comfortably and be able to put out pretty chairs in our fabulous new dungeon.

Someone saw me yelling at the garage door and said sweetly, "maybe you should put it on the list that you're in need darlin". So here I am!

A new garage door that actually rolls up onto itself, along with a walk-through door in it that opens outside (so we don't have to spend the money to redirect the current door that opens into the building and is in the concrete wall!). I believe Tom Wood is pricing out what's needed for that exactly, but it would make life at Edges much safer, simpler,
and give us more suspension and stage room!

Hello Everyone!

I stopped by the dungeon tonight...it is looking good...still has a ways to go...but it has come
so far and is going to be such a great space!!!

We still need more people to come out and help get it finished up.

Ali mentioned this evening that she would love a volunteer who could get several quotes for
covering the ceiling insulation. The space is about 4,000 sq. ft.

She mentioned that she saw a covering she liked at Sweet Tomato's the other night. (I think
she meant the one at Coleman and Taylor--Across from Renegades).

The new space is still in need of your help!!! It is looking amazing--all of the incredible people who have been giving of their time and energy are making a beautiful space.

This week we received several donations for prizes to raffle at the Volunteer Party.
Blowfish.com has donated over $250 in toys
Jildos.com has donated a $149 hand crafted beautiful wood dildo.
We also have a plug and movie night option. A butt plug and two movie passes...plug your favorite sub and take them to the movies...or plug yourself and treat a friend to a movie of their choice.
And we will have two packed out toy belts.
If you haven't had a chance to put anytime in yet, make a plan to come down and help in the next couple of weeks, and if you have already put in sometime, it would be greatly appreciated if you could find a little more to give.

Note from Ali:

So I've been away from my computer for nearly 5 days: I think that's a record. Wake up,
work, eat, crash has been the cycle. But guess what!? We are starting to come out of the
building phase and into the setup phase!! EXCITING.

This week we had super yummy food--Erin, I NEED that salad recipe--and Nikki NEEDS
that quiche recipe as well! Oh and our pizza rescuer, Alison, Mmmmm. Brownies and
homemade cookies from Jonathon yesterday kept us going. I'm sure I'm forgetting
something..likely something obvious too--sorry my head is so fried.

We knocked out a HUGE amount of work this week and are nearly ready to bring the lift
back for putting up suspension points, wiring in insulation, putting up wiring in the Vic
room, and more. We need those in the know with the bondage, and those willing to take
on heights! We will plan to have the lift on Tuesday and start with the smaller stuff and
get to the suspension points later in the week.

We are in need of strong chain by the way: if there's a chain god/dess out there anywhere
:-)

Everyone keeps asking the question: so has the place been cristioned yet? Yes, via
orgasm, play and hey...does anyone know if someone has actually fucked in the space yet?
?

And well, the dancing that ensues is great as well. If you've been by recently you have
most likely seen us dancing to the tunes and lamenting the loss of a stable point above for
the stripper pole. We could really using some help if someone wants to take on creating
either a base for the pole, or helping us find and putting in the pole in a stable place at
the space. Perhaps a concrete base can be put under the stage, a hole drilled through and
it connect?? I don't know. But we miss dancing and stripping on it!!

We cleared out the last big room and starting its painting--looking forward to putting in
the trim and such.

Have you all seen the 'Slammer'?? Stop by and try it out!! Shove someone or get shoved
into it. we've got lots and lots and LOTS of little things at this point. Shuffling things
about, hanging stuff, light painting, and tons of cleaning needed to start taking the dust
out!

Looking forward to another week. And some fun Monday night (from 7:00 pm - 9:00) with the first Women's Play
Lab "Head and Face play". Come by and see the new space, play, learn and share. I could
use the smiles and company! Hugs to you all.

And no, bringing food and smiles and stopping by to say hi is NOT any less than getting
your hands dirty. It's more than sitting behind your computer wandering 'what going on
down there' and for that, I keep going! (I'm told "That's a fine line, little miss" but it's my
heart and this is a community work of love--and community is 'giving for giving sake
alone' my Papa Bear says--so I'll share my heart on my sleeve, instead of hiding) We do
this together and I'm literally thrilled when I see someone walk in and offer to help:
whether I've seen them once or a ton!

"Singletails: from both ends of the whip"
A class for both tops and bottoms with Eagleiiis (Eagle Eyes) and kate

This class will focus on the use of the Singletail, and will cover topics like throwing techniques, top and bottom positioning, the mechanics of throwing, the types of throws to use to get the desired effects, targeting, and safety for both the top and bottom.

Eagleiiis, and his submissive kate, will offer tips for tops on technique and how to wield the whip. Moreover, they will offer hints for bottoms and give them an idea of what to expect from the whip. Eagleiiis and kate will work with both tops and bottoms individually, giving them a taste of the Singletail from both ends of the whip.

Those who wish to attend are encouraged to bring their own whips to practice what they learn. Class will also include some discussion about the different types of whips, what materials are used, how to break in a new whip, and how to care for one.

A Note from Ali regarding WISH LISTS:

So I've had several folks that cannot visit and share their time, offer Home
Depot or Lowe's gift cards and let me tell you--how helpful!!! And of
course, we always accept cash!

Did you know, it was over $10,000 just to get the keys to move in, much less
what it's taking to clean it out and create what's wanted--dry wall, tools,
supplies, mud, paint, flooring, etc. On that note: those volunteers that
have been super active in helping me keep this organized (whether from afar
or at the space) are the one's getting their suggestions in--so if you want
to see something at the space (I've heard "padded room"...puurrrr), then
help out, get involved, or solicit sponsors to pay for it so we can create
it!! :-) We want those things too, but they're costly and we need
supporters. If you're unable--think of folks or businesses that are able.

Many have asked, what is our "BIG wish list", meaning those things we sorta
need, but really just want, but would be really fabulous to have and folks
would immensely appreciate:

** New chairs, more seat room and easily stackable. We need a minimum of 50
really, but at this time budget is so tight that we may have to purchase a
few at a time. The local office furniture places are offering them only as
low as $32 each I've found, but online here they're $25 per!

** We REALLY want to put in that big shower for everyone's use and it so
happens that Home Depot is having a huge sale on tiles (we need a lot of the
same, but thanks to all those that have offered their spares) and it's going

goal, or if you happen to be banging someone in the tile industry...

Volunteer appreciation

I would just like to take a moment to give kudos the the folks at Edges for their appreciation of the people that give their time to build move and run the playspace.

I had been a volunteer coordinator for many years in PTA and in more recent years have hosted parties and given many years of my time to worthwhile endeavors and the one thing you cannot do enough is to be gracious and appreciative to your volunteers and staff.

One sure fire way to lose volunteers is to take them for granted or make them feel that it is a privilege to be able to serve you, when it is you that owe them. I never see any hint that that is where you are going nor is it how you run things now. When I read the mailing list replies/posts I see a thank you every day for the work and workers from the day before. Such a small thing really but it goes such a long way. Keep it up and I am sure that the Edges playspace will be around for MANY years to come. I truly hope so and wish you the best of luck in your grand opening of the new space. I will move heaven and earth to be there.

A Note from Ali regarding STRAP-ON TOOL BELTS:

What a day, week, month! I'm at the new space early this morning for a
photo shoot in anticipation of the first events when we open for parties:
volunteer-only parties of course.

MOVING ON: This morning I'm wearing nothing but a tool belt and I hear the
owner of the tool belt walk in. Unbeknownst to him I've not only
commandeered his work tools, but I've also completely rearranged, shifted,
and adjusted his darling and loved tool belt. He's gonna be pissed! I run
and hide only to let out a long sign that it's someone else's voice. Vicki
and Jessica laugh at me to no end, insisting no one in their right mind
would be more concerned about readjusting their tool belt than my bare
breasts beneath its suspenders.. .I'm not so sure.

You see, I have come to know tool belts like my dearest and most favorite
strap-on. Really they're quite similar! Each is not vital, but immensely
useful when you have a task to complete and you want to do so with the ease
of knowing you have all of your "tools" in place. How would I feel to walk
in and see a sweet girl wearing my harness? Not a happy camper! Odd?
Perhaps. But I have reserve harnesses for friends in need (or perhaps
that's for when I'M in need--I get it confused) and I would not be thrilled
to know someone had adjusted it away from my measurements, and not even for
the purpose of pleasing me with said strap-on!!

Now: whose going to build the Mother of all harnesses? A
strap-on-tool- belt?! It holds your cock (whatever size, color, shape and
hardness you desire), your lube, condoms, gloves, rope, and of course a
handy loop for your anal hook!

So, if getting the dungeon open sooner doesn't make you come out and help...and volunteering earning you an invite to Ali's Volunteer Party--which could involve strap-on-tool-belts...then the fact that I will be bringing by toll house chocolate chip cookies and double chocolate chip and peanut butter cookies should get you there...because my cookies are the very best!!!!

What a week! We've had folks stopping by and pitching in every single day: be it to sweep, smile and leave, or to hang dry wall for hours on end. ALL of it is terribly helpful and really adds up quick. Please know that we need all of our members to give of what they are able.

As always, food is Mmmmmm, sugar is Mmmmmm! Thank you for the donations and well wishes. Anyone willing to provide Starbucks on tap?! Hahaaa

Thursday we were lucky to have the attention and energy of the South Bay TNG group. They canceled what is typically their movie night at Edges and instead we had lots of young energy sprawled all over the space: painting, mudding and more. What a great site to see our local 18-35 y/o group rally together and get their hands dirty with us.

Many of the same faces come in, getting off work early and stopping by, coming over on their lunch breaks, dropping off dinner for us on their way home, stopping by at the end of the day simply to help cleanup. And there are those that can only stop by once or twice. And let me tell you: both are vital to making this project come together!

We'll be doing more later day work this coming week!

** UPDATE, 26 June **

With the glitch due to the electrical disturbance we had a shorter day yesterday but got lots done.

** The space was broken into and electrical stripped. The owner is having the claims adjuster come in and will be paying to fix the issue. We’re already taking in quotes (thank you Steve for the Light House info) and hope to see that get done as quickly as possible. We do have a generator for use in that time (feel free to bring by a gallon of gas for use).

** We KICKED SERIOUS ASS on Sunday. Though some of you were disappointed you didn’t get to rip out walls, we had amazing helpers really pull down the space (Our dungeon is gone...Waaaahhhhh) and get it staged and ready to shift. THANK YOU to those of you that were able to help out and super hug to Polly for providing sustenance and fuel in food to keep us going!!

** We’ve started gutting out the new space. We’ve already filled a 30cu yard dumpster and have today had it dumped and brought back to fill again!! My thanks to those of you that helped out so far this week in breaking down and pulling out at this new space. WOW. I know it seems like a daunting task but trust in our ability as a community to want a place to beat on each other and fuck!!!

** I’ve had countless calls from folks that haven’t been out to help yet saying “We’ve heard it’s a mess and you won’t be ready in a few weeks”. My answer (and I hope yours too) is, “It will be if you can come help make it happen!!”. Optimism at its most blunt. Hahaahaa

Though I get too anxious/nervous/frazzled to remember at times, especially over the past many weeks: HUGS to each and every one of you that has been out to help, will be out to help, shows their positive outlook to others, and encourages positive energy towards our new home.

We've got a building!

Today I'll be signing a new lease, for 5 years this time, on a building in Santa Clara!

This new space is going to take a LOT of start up work, cleanup and demolition--not to mention build out after that point. Edges will begin cleaning out the new space as of next week. We should be up and ready for use, other than parties, within 2 to 3 weeks, we hope. At 10k JUST to get the keys and signed into the new space, you can imagine that the longer we're out of commission, the harder it'll be on us!! So we're going to be working quickly, getting the space usable, and building out from there!

"A Moving Perspective"

Someone asked me, "How much does it really cost to rent a truck and move?"
Here's a quick, down and dirty, minimum to remove ourselves from the current space and get into a new home:

To leave our current home we must purchase new roll up door tracking and get it hung, rent a scissor lift to put those up and take down all suspension equipment. We need to repaint the existing walls to white again. We have to rent a several cubic yard dumpster to get rid of the debris that has collected over the past two years. To start with, this comes to nearly $1000.

To get into a new home, we must pay first months rent (which overlaps one month at our current location, so we're looking at nearly $8000 right there) as well as a large security deposit to boot.

We do need to "rent a truck" but we must also tear down and rebuild several walls in our new home and put in at least one ADA compliant bathroom (though it's not required of us, it's something Alex and I both feel is essential). We will need to add at least a minimum kitchenette as well as additional improvements in that area. This is all at least $3000 roughly.

We are also determined to create a core Education Room for use by the community and will need to put in shelving and supplies to that area, hopefully to include new chairs that will remain in that space for use! This is about another $1000.

The lighting we have can move with us, but additional conduit and supplies will need to be purchased to put them into the new space. The bay area in the new building will need sections of Tbar taken out and suspension put up (more scissor lift time). We will once again need to paint walls and more! We have to either cut out space and create storage, or rent a storage area. This all comes in around $2000 to start.

We have our priorities and will proceed first with the community needs, then the wants! This list is the bare minimum of our needs but will perhaps put into perspective better what is needed beyond renting a truck. I hope this gives you a better 'orientation' to the needs for such an endeavor! :-)

Hi all,

Many of you are used to my presentations on electrical play. But now I'm branching out. On Thursday evening, 12 June 2008 with doors opening at 7:30 PM and running to 10, I'll host the very first of what I'll call Unc's Colloquia. It'll be held at a popular and well-known venue in Santa Clara - just before San Jose Pride weekend. This idea of the series is to present to the community topics available nowhere else. I guarentee they'll be thought provoking, inspiraional, and cutting edge. Those attending will see something new and hopefully set their minds racing to find out more ...to experiment ...to discover ...to explore ...to experience ...to dicuss, debate, consider. These will be no 101-level flogging (or other such - important though they may be). These will definitely be 201 and 301 level classes.

For the first of these, I'm pleased to present qDot (a.k.a. Kyle) presenting on Teledildonics.

Coined by Ted Nelson, Teldildonics is the general field of using computer and other automation techniques to do sexual stimulations remotely. This includes using computers and the internet for sexual contact between two or more people ... or even between people and 'virtual' people or creatures. (Imagine being able to have sex with your partner from the other side of the country or 'real' sexual contact with Marilyn Monroe or Superman. Impossible? Not with teledildonics and some real clever programming and interfaces.)

But is this just a pipe dream? Just what is the state of the art? What Teledildonic devices, software, and services exist?

A survey of Teledildonics and where it stands is the subject of this presentation which launches the Unc's Colloquia series. The presenter, qDot (a.k.a. Kyle) is well qualified to speak on this subject. A software professional, his Slashdong.com website is a key resource in the field of Teledidonics and computer-based sexuality. His site includes the latest and most up-to-date information on the subject. He has also been invited to present papers on the subject at Arse-Electronika conferences.

This is a definitely not-to-miss event. Not only will qDot talk about Teledildonics, he'll also show some of the devices that are available today. There'll also be live demonstrations to further illustrate the techniques. qDot will also be available to answer your questions.

This class will only be available on a pre-registration basis. The fee is a nominal $15.00 per person. The class size is limited to only 30 attendees and is filling up fast. Please understand that this class will discuss mature subject matter and, therefore, is an ADULTS ONLY event. You must be at least 21 years of age or older. You'll also be required to sign a waiver prior to entering the class. These will be available at the door. Once you've registered, you'll receive an e-mail giving you the address of the class venue.

So though we have some prospects looking at the purchase of the building, we are looking into new locations. We will be staying in Santa Clara, we will be staying open (in fact we are pretty sure we can set it up so we will not even have one dark weekend!) and we will still HIGHLY encourage sex in the dungeon...so long as I'm getting mine...which means pony-up!

Just letting everyone know that it's OOKKKAAYYY! Don't freak out. and if you hear something that sounds 'off', just drop Alex and I a line to confirm before sharing in the telephone game.

So we are hosting what will likely be our last blow out fundraiser before the move to ensure we can transition easily! Thank you to all of you that purchased a BLACK membership~! Wow. And yes, you will get that back if we do not reopen within 3 months. But on that note: May 10th will be the LAST chance to purchase a black membership. We've realized that it's just too good of an offer to keep out there. I mean, free parties forever as long as Edges is around...can't beat that. You see, we realized that we're willing to go all the way to keep Edges alive, which means we're going to be around for along time. :-)

Edges Needs Your Help

Over the last two decades many public play spaces have flourished and died in the bay area. Edges was built with love in the tradition of the best of these. Now we face a crossroads. The building we occupy is for sale. Ali and Alex are not able to secure a loan to buy it themselves, and unless someone steps up to purchase it from within the community it will be sold to outsiders. IT IS possible the new owners would let us stay, but at this time we have no commitment. As a community, we not only want, but need the support of Each Of You to see this through.

If you know of anyone in a position and with the inclination to buy the building and continue to rent it to Edges, please have them call Alex immediately. In the interim here is the current plan:

In order to continue providing a space to the community, (at this physical location or another) Edges needs financial support from our greater community. Ali has maintained Edges with NO debt for the past two years, yet neither Ali nor Alex take funds from their endeavors with Edges, but rather put all excess back into the space itself. We need the community to take on this same go-give mentality.

Unfortunately Ali is in school full time, just started a new job and is about to begin her internship for her laboratory career; she simply does not have the time to manage this extra workload! Therefore, we are looking for volunteers to manage fundraising events in the next few weeks. We need a General Manager of Fundraising, and people to organize specific events, organize the membership drive, advertise and spread the word, and more!

Please call Alex directly with any ideas or your willingness to take on some of what needs to be done.

Thank you in advance for helping us save this wonderful asset to the community! Know that it is our intent to do everything possible to secure our current location, or ensure we have a new home for all of us!

You have a willing victim to tie up- Which rope should you use?

When tying up your friends, the rope you use makes a big difference. The type of rope determines what knots you should use and how long they can and will stay in your bondage. What positions can they be put into? Do they like to escape? Do they have allergies?

This is an in depth overview of most of the different types of rope available for bondage. We will be discussing the original fiber content and make up of each rope with some tips and tricks for using each kind.

We will have a demo contrasting natural fiber ropes and man made ropes.

Your rope, like any toy, contributes to your scene differently make sure you choose the right rope for your chosen type of play.
