I know, there are probably a million threads like this floating, but I can't find them right now & my music collection needs it's annual refreshing...

What are your favorite CDs for Egyptian style dance (classic, modern, shaabi, beledi- I'm up for anything!) or just for general listening?

    Dear Lara,
I LOVE the new Khan El Khalili CD, which is the music of Ahmed Fouad Hassan, I love the origin Meshaal by Hani Mahenna. They are both older music, but they are rich and complex, which is what I like in Egyptian belly dance music.

I've been thouroughly enjoying Al Radwa and Layali Rouqash from Yasmin's Dancing with Genies CD as well as Hoda Sinbati's CD. www.serpentine.org It's always worth buying the cd because they come with killer booklets!
I also quite like a few of the intro/majency numbers on the later Horatio and Beata CDs (available easily through Tatikastreasures.com).
I've got some nice random stuff I bought in Egypt last year- but have no idea who its by.
Kollik zogibni is a great older Egyptian sha'abi song.

Where can you find the original Meshaal? I used to have it on a cassette. I'd like to get it on CD. I've been looking for a while.

I tend to like the older music better as well. Currently I'm in love with Walid Toufic's Top Hits CD. Not to many songs for dancing but I love it. You can't go wrong with the Voice of the Orient series. Lots of classical songs with a full orchestra.

        Dear Norma,
Unfortunately it is not being made any more, according to the people at Rashid Sales Co. I also wish I had a music only version of his song, "People have luck" because the musical score it so incredible. Was not Walid Tawfik the total Paul McCartney of the ME? We used to watch his movies too. His version of Happy Birthday is about my favorite!
        "Abby Birtday to YOO
        Abby Birtday to YOO
        Abby Birtday to YOU
        Abby Biiiirtdaay to YOOOOOO"
        LOL

        Regards,
        A'isha

Poop. That's a shame about Maashaal. The most beautiful version. I loved those chimes in the beginning. I love the Happy Birthday song. Especially the English version!

            Dear Lara,
That was great !! Thanks for sharing!!! The original version was from a movie, but forget which one... it was over 20 years ago. Yes, I think its sad about Meshaal, too. I don't know why it has not been reissued. there is no version that touches it. Have you seen the video of Nagwa Fouad dancing to it? I guess he wrote the song for her.
            Regards,
            A'isha
