Hello all,
I had a random question about obtaining a license to dance in Cairo. I have no intention or want to dance professionally in Cairo, but I'm curious as to how one obtains a license to do so. Is there a written exam? Just an application? Does the ministry need to see you dance or your costuming? How long does the license last? I've tried to look them up online, but any link is an empty page or doesn't exist.
*Hopefully* I will be going to Egypt this upcoming fall for study abroad, but of course I will be geeking out about dance. I was just curious about this process, but let me state that I will not be looking to obtain a license!
Thanks!

Re: Egyptian Ministry of Culture?
Thu, April 10, 2008 - 5:30 AMWell, I know that they seem to teach bedllydance in Lebanon at university now, and I have heard that in Egypt a bellydancer has to have some kind of education like that too now. But don't rely on me as a sound source for info on that. Maybe someone knows more details? They do teach bellydance in some ballet schools in Cairo.

Thu, April 10, 2008 - 9:49 AMIt sounds like typical "licensing" in Egypt: something that can be taken of quickly with a bribe (ba2shish) or a little poke-poke : p
