Looking for SPECIFIC songs

Hi all,

I don't know if you've had this problem before, wher you find a song you love and then can't find a recording to use? I have that dilema with two in particular: Sert al Hob and Baeed Annak. I own both of the original Oum Khalsoum versions, which of course I can't dance to. (For numerous reasons, which could very well be it's own topic.)

I have found one version of Sert al Hob on one of the Wash Ya Wash cd's, but I just don't think it stacks up to the original! For me it is important that remakes of songs still maintain the original flavor, or at least the original power.

The only recorded version of Baeed Annak I have is from Asala Yousef, which I have similar problems with. I like a lot of her remakes, but more for listening to. I just don't feel the instrumentation is dynamic enough to dance to.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

I have a Samir Srour version of Sert el Hob. I haven't listened to it in a while so I can't recall specific things about it. Mmm I'll pull it out tonight and give it a listen. But in general I find the saxaphone to mellow for me.

Do you have the Dina in Soiree DVD? The last dancer on that one dances to Sert el Hob with a live band. That's when I fell in love with the song. I'd LOVE to get a version like that.

I always have a problem finding instrumental remakes that I like.

Okay, I listened. The Samir Srour version isn't bad, but it doesn't compare to the original. His version is mostly drum machine, keyboard and sax -replacing OK vocals, vs full orchestra version.

But the "Best of Samir Srour" CD does have both songs that you were interested in, plus other Ablel Halim and Oum Khoulsoum songs.

Even if the CD ultimately is not "dance worthy", I think it's a good cd to be included in a serious belly dancers collection.

My recommendation will be Mahmoud Fadl! I think he does great version of the classics. You can listen to a sample on iTunes, but you can only get Sirt al Hob if you buy the whole album (maybe because it's the top song of the whole album...but I bought the whole album and didn't regret it!)
