Re: Gilded Serpent has published my article
Tue, June 3, 2008 - 8:42 PMSausan, I just read it. You make some interesting points in the article.
I smiled when I read your comment about second position (arms outstretched to the sides in what one of my friends used to call the "crucifix position"). I agree with you, many American belly dance teachers create choreography using this position and teach their students that extension in this position is desirable. And I agree with you that this is *not* a position typical of what Egyptian dancers did during the era that you use as the basis for your Egyptian dance code definition.

Re: Gilded Serpent has published my article
Fri, June 6, 2008 - 3:05 PMThank you, Hany...
I personally don't care for Nadia Gamal, but that is just a personal quirk. She looks, to me, to be more Western influenced.
I have a video of Nagwa Fouad where she is dancing a modern dance. She is so "Egyptian" in her dancing that she actually looks goofy in her dancing; kind of like the Westerner look "goofy" trying to emulate the Egyptians.

Re: Gilded Serpent has published my article
Fri, June 6, 2008 - 8:47 PMi only saw 2 or 3 dances of nadia gamal in her early days in films , she was ok for me then
i don't know about her later on ....
i saw nagawa fouad dance on a perez prado goes twist lp !!!!in 1966 film in discoteque with others and again she danced twist with rouchdi abaza in 1963 film, i did not see her as belly dancer then , she sure fit in the twist , i believe a dancer should have an idea about every dance , nagwa did it well... -
