Good evening all, I thought I would post a theory here and see what others had to say about it.
As you may recall from history, the Vikings were great explorers and adventurers. Having developed out of the earlier Goths (or GahTSK), these Norsemen traveled and migrated all over. As the Visigoths or Western Goths, they ransacked the Western Roman Empire and penetrated as far as North Africa. And, as the Ostrogoths or Eastern Goths they moved into the Balkans and then settled in Italy (attempting to reform the early Roman Church). Moreover, the less well known Yugogoths or Southern Goths migrated Eastward and settled along the Silk Road to China, where they eventually founded the Jewish State of Kazaria.
[Scandia Faith (Cross) Shield]However, most interesting of them all, were the Norigoths or as we say GahTSK (literally the Ancient Northern Peoples of God). During the so called Dark Ages, these Peoples came to dominate all of Scandanavia and the Baltic Region, as well as much of the rest of Northern Europe (especially in the Vidfadmi Era). But, as time passed, they split into two groups. The more holy descendants went Eastward, into Russia, where they became the Varangians. And from there, they went farther Eastward to China (and legends even hold that they showed up in Japan, perhaps among the Ainu). The less holy and more Pagan descendants went into Western Europe, as the Vikings, and from there arrived in the New World of America.
So, their track record for exploration, adventuring, and migration is well established. They were a Peoples on the move. And, always in search of greener pastures (or treasures around the next bend of the river). Moreover, the stories and legends of their exploits are still remembered today.
[Historical Literature (Scroll) Shield]However, among all their achievements and discoveries from their travels, the most important one is almost forgotten! Or, simply ignored by the modern sophisticates who scoff and say it could not be done. But then, accounts of other Viking exploits, which were held impossible, have, in fact, turned out to be true! (Witness the old Viking legends that they had discovered America, which we now know to be fact from archaeology.) So, just because it seems incredible, does not mean that it did not happen, for the Vikings accomplished many unbelievable things!
So, what are we talking about here? (You may ask.) Well, it is such a great discovery, that if it is true, then it is more than amazing. It is a fact that we all need to know about! And, I am speaking here of the obscure legend that the Vikings actually discovered a Route to Heaven! Now, at first glance, that may seem totally unbelievable, but let us examine the facts that we can gather, to see if there is any solid basis to this legend.
[Nordesel Unity Shield]Perhaps one of the major mysteries of the Norsemen is their original name of Goths. The word Goth comes from a more primitive term of GuDT, which means God. Thus, the Goths (or pre-Vikings) were the Northern Peoples of God (which is why we call them GahTSK). Now, if their name comes from God, is it possible that they had some knowledge of HIM? I'd say that was obvious! And, if they knew about God and HIS Realm in Heaven, is it really too much to think that they might have known how to get to Heaven to be with HIM? Again, I do not think it is beyond reason. Rather, it seems entirely possible that they could have had some such kind of knowlegde!
So in reading this, Asatru is an actual religion from a Gothic Culture.

Tue, September 25, 2007 - 3:22 AMwell, setting aside your "history" Goths as Jews, for instance...the Vikings generally believed that the road to Heaven was dying in battle.
I guess women got a pass.

Re: Vikings Came From the gothic Tribes?
Wed, September 26, 2007 - 12:36 PMAs a theory, this is pretty interesting....however very many modern "ancient" cultures have been claiming connections to the Goths. You can find people claiming orgination of the Druids from the Goths even.
Asatru is not an ancient religion--however, regardless of the origins of the Vikings, any people who live in northern, cold, dark lands that worship battle and chaos almost above family unity and believe the end of the world will come at the belly of a gigantic wolf would seem pretty morbid and twisted. Therefore appeal to modern Gothics.
Additionally, the modern term "Goth" came from those people yes, but also from their influence of Indo-European styles, later architecture influenced by the Middle East, and and cultural heritage from the tribal peoples of France and Germany.
Goths have much claim on history. -

Re: Vikings Came From the gothic Tribes?
Tue, January 1, 2008 - 12:53 PMGreetings from Sweden. hmm.. still cant figure what this has to do with the goth culture what so ever. Tought i do know a great deal about the different tribes. In modern Sweden
there is still regions known as Eastern and western götaland. Aswel las a island called Gotland. Some of the migrating tribes was the goths, but also the Langobards ( historia langobardum is an interesting book if you want to get to know more about the langobards. It,s written by Paulus Diaconus ( translated from latin)
I think the name goth as in the modern culture derives from the word gotik rocker.
An offset from the punk trend! some people probably took the punks not dead but the corpse is alive phrase literarly and then went with it :-) My guess.. morbid rocker would be a better name really.
The goth movement has a sence for individualism from a more cynical point of wiev. To this often a fashination of the occult and pagan worlds. Aswell as roleplaying and victorian culture. I think the Anne Rice novels did a big part aswell.
The community revolvs mainly around the music. It,s also mixed up with folklore and especially vampires and demonic creatures of a more sensual or sexual orientation.
To this there can also be a touch of homosexuality or androgynity i think. Thus the spawning of the emo culture i believe. There is no `` real´´ deffination tought to what a goth is... but more of an indvidualistic expression of a persons more darker sides and fashinations. You can be a goth without showing it.. or showing it trought clothes. Non the less it,s still goth. Colours are often black, or to the spectrum of violete and pink.
the fashination of the morbid often focuses on tragedy, lost love, suicides, darkness e.t.c
But also a form of esoteric expression, as darkness is not wieved as evil per see..
Hermetism can be involved in this wiev. Perhaps it,s a sub consious movement..
There is also a hint from the bdsm culture and the wearing of leather. Thus goth rockers are seldom sinister to their nature, but more of the sensitive artistic type. Willing to explore the inner depths. Above all there is this strong vibration of frustration. Repressed things..
The gotic architecture.
Gothic architecture en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goth...chitecture
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gothic_revival
This then spawned the hollywood dracula castles :-)
As for the wikings they vere not morbid and twisted. As a matter of fact they vere traders, dominating northern europe and england. To a start there was many raids but also explorers aswell as distant merchants and mercenairys. The reason they have such a bad appeal is because they sacked christian monistarys.. and then had the monks write really bad about them ( no wonder) Since the church was the ones that had the educated people that could write around these days.. It made it possible to falsify history. It,s not the first time the dark and morbid church has done that i tell you! thus.. the goth movement is more or less more of a hollywood inspiered ( to what they think is history) movement in that angle.
The viking god,s are pretty similar to the greek pantheon, thus representing all sides of human nature. Tought i have to agree there is a big touch of splatter movie in their storys..
So there aught to have been alot of violence.
p.s the goths sacked rome and put an end to the romans horrible rule forever.
the reason they did this is because ( the eastern goths or visigoth) had migrated down to the danube. They vere then under constant raids from t the nomadic horse peoples. .
such as the huns. That,s why there was so much movement in this period. Resulting that barbarian people tried to migrate inside the roman powersphere.
I also find it a bit strange that so many tribes and such a wast number of people could migrate from this place ( sweden) they must have been very bussy in bed..

Re: Vikings Came From the gothic Tribes?
Tue, January 1, 2008 - 1:02 PMp.s. as per see.. all the peoples mentioned in the etnical context are of the `` Germanic tribes´´ so is were the vikings. It,s basically culturaly similar people but belonging to different tribes. The germanic peoples also share alot in common with the Celts thus they are all tribes deriving from the indo europeans.
