I thought there should be a thread where we welcome people to share their work and get feedback. I liked what was going on in the "Bass in yer face" thread, so there should be a context-free place for people to just say, "look what I produced!" That way, we can all have a listen and respond. I'm sure topics will emerge for us to digress upon.

Re: Post new tracks here!
Sat, December 8, 2007 - 11:25 PMI just finished a final project for my video editing class. Have a look:
www.vipcorp.com/beytah/Bey...Monster.mov
also an MP3:
www.vipcorp.com/mp3/Beytah...Monster.mp3
As for the audio, It's mostly synthesized. Many of you know what a sample junkie I am, but I wanted to make this one feel more "home-made" like the video. I did sneak in some whale and "dinosaur" sounds though :) I used the delay effects on my electribe sampler to get the bell-type tones and little crunchy sounds. The glitchy synth bits are albino run through this destroyfx plugin called "glitch girl neo". If you haven't seen this vst, it's awesome just for pure novelty alone. Hot anime girl strapped to some machine and covered with knobs and blinky lights and stuff. Click the right buttons and her space suit comes off! And it just ruins sounds in a good way, kind of like buffer override.
As for the video, It was really just a primer in stop motion. I covered a bendable skeleton with hamburger meat and put it in a box with circuit board walls. The monster picks up a microchip, it "infects" him, and a dancing skeleton emerges from the meat monster. It Also includes oscilloscope renderings of the soundtrack, lasers thru soda bottle bottoms, one of those lightning ball things, etc etc. I tried to get really experimental. It was edited in speed edit and final cut pro.
Probably more than you wanted to know. So what do you think? -

Sun, December 9, 2007 - 10:25 AMis it my connection, or does that video take a long time to load? thought i'd have a quick look, but i got impatient. :(

Re: Post new tracks here!
Sun, December 9, 2007 - 12:16 PMyeah, that vid was not working for me... Great track though! I wanted it to be longer, it felt like a bit of an unfinished denouement at the end, left me hanging. Lovely, intelligent use of chorus, tight clean glitch sounds, all around tight as a nun's ass.
Good call on this thread. Here are a couple of my latest:

Read the description on that last one, you'll see what I'm all about these days. Enjoy! -

Re: Post new tracks here!
Mon, December 10, 2007 - 5:46 PMshavingronaldscar, your music is really impressive. Great soundscapes in angelfu***r and ridiculously complex jazz psychosis in the fire hydrant track. I am in awe actually just listening to that one now. Thanks for the darkware link, Orbsycli! Now everyone can see how silly fun glitchgirlneo is. I hunted down your music too, it gets really psychedelic and out there, lots of cool panning.
As for the video I posted, I realized it was all one frame off the audio in my final output, so I fixed that and re-uploaded. Its 37MB so it should get up and running on a cable connection pretty quick. Otherwise, its in my myspace videos located here: vids.myspace.com/index.cfm
its a bit more compressed but will load up right quick. I'd love to know what people think of the video. -

above are the mp3s from my new EP. I just got them back from mastering yesterday! I'm probably just going to do a small CDR run... so I figured I would just give them out for now..
tk 1- this is made with only generative nord modular patches run through the gigaverb~. this is a realtime 2 track recording
tk 2- edited from many nord patches in DP... the mastering guy rescued this one for serious...
tk 3- same as tk 1
tk 4- same as tk 2... with some voice textures thrown in. the pulses are asynchronous harmonics... similar to a drawbar organ with each bar being raised and lowered with a different lfo. -

Re: Post new tracks here!
Mon, January 7, 2008 - 12:23 PMBeytah, great work w/ the J Priest remix. Gotta love Rob Halford. One of the most perplexing musical characters in recent times if you ask me. Really hardcore looking guy, but really really gay. Didn't impress many of their fans when that came out. Metal heads...tough crowd. Anyway, I really like the track. It's rugged and rough like I'd expect with a white noise push that doesn't let my brain settle down at all (I know that you meant to do that...lol). I also love that you make it hard to spot that original track. No one would ever guess it's a remix until they hear the vocal. -

Re: Post new tracks here!
Mon, January 7, 2008 - 3:52 PMSky, I meant to comment on your tracks too. They are beautifully scored. You have a great grasp of harmony. Well done. I like the bass tones you're using too. Very warm. What are you using on it if you don't mind. I'd love to know.
One slight criticism that I have and is totally a matter of preference, is that these two tracks, especially the first one, are a bit long winded for lack of a better term. I realize that you're not making pop music, but there is some merit to keeping things concise. I really like the first track, but I stopped listening at 8 mins to check the second one out. Now, if you like those long layered mixes and you're using the tracks for performance, rock on and long. It'll allow you to heavily layer your works. But, for release, I'd say keep it shorter than that. As much as I fought with a songwriting instructor that I had once about this same thing, I now realize that he was half right (for my tastes). He said 3.5 - 4.5 mins is more than enough and you should hit the hook or chorus within a minute of the track starting. It's good advice, but I'd disagree with the max time. Maybe 6.5 mins. Like I said, subjective opinion entirely. I'd like to hear other opinions on this of course. -

Re: Post new tracks here!
Tue, January 8, 2008 - 12:38 AMSky, some well-made, well-mastered stuff you've got there. My style is far messier and chaotic, so I admire the beauty and perfection of yours. I like the second one best, by far. I also concur with Saro on track length though, at least if you're not introducing any drastically new elements partway through. Many of my songs are constructed out of different suites, or set up almost as medleys, with different parts throughout, and these can be as long as 20 minutes. I myself, on many an occasion, have been guilty of the same thing though: taking one part, being like, ''oh, that's cool'', and then dragging it out for waaaaay too long. I love your string sounds, man! Please, tell us a bit about how you construct your sounds, where you get your samples, etc.
Saro, once again, I'm out of time, but I'll get back to these tomorrow I hope. -

Tue, April 1, 2008 - 12:06 AMJoe, all i can say is that is really grinding twisted sickness! I might have to register so I can download your tunes...
I've been really busy lately and have not gotten a chance to check on here. Such a stranger, eh?
But I've got something to share with all of you! It's not actually my own "tracks" but its my live recording of an improvisational noise band experiment I participated in. I did a lot of post mixing on this stuff, choosing 16 excerpts totaling 30 minutes from a four hour recording of the event. It's unlike anything you usually would hear. some parts have near twenty artists playing drums, synths, homemade electronics, guitar, bass, etc. in a large warehouse space.
Im probably not doing the greatest job of explaining this "Liquid Concrete Air Band" show, but for those of you interested in hearing something really different, I recommend listening to the contents of this .zip file ~[60mb, 320kbps]

Re: Post new tracks here!
Mon, June 23, 2008 - 6:26 PMgreat synth fx! this sounds really wavy and clean, very acidic and layered in all the right ways. tasteful thought lines and extrapolations from singular melodic/rhythmic textures. really tight filter work, amazing mix. man, every time I hear something of somebody else's on this tribe, it puts me to shame and I don't post any of my own stuff for a week or two afterwards hehe. -

Re: Post new tracks here!
Thu, September 11, 2008 - 3:43 PMI need to listen to some of these recent tracks as well.
sAro, I just checked yours out.
I love it, the piano and strings are nice with the skipping hats.
I like the subtle percussion that enters. The stings give this nice oceanic feel with the percussion intricately dancing across the surface.
Nice spacious atmospheres.
I like the subtlety of the drums and snare.
Some critiques..
I think at the break in the middle, before the percussion leaves completely, it would be nice to have the hats change to a different sound or a really different rhythm. Maybe its a personal preference but they seem to stand out at that point while the rest of the track gels. Maybe its just the open hat that stands out to me.
Also, it ends pretty abruptly for a song, but it wouldn't matter for a DJ mix.
Here is one of mine, right near completion. I just need some time away from it, and to get some critiques from 3rd parties.

Re: Post new tracks here!
Thu, September 11, 2008 - 3:48 PMKage,
I also just listened to yours.
I like the chill vibe and how it builds throughout the piece.
This would be great at sunrise or sunset on an outdoor stage.
Maybe its the computer speakers I am listening on, but the kick seems a little small to me. Maybe this is your intent, but it sounded more clicky than I normally like (its probably my speakers).
Keep up the good work everyone. -

Re: Post new tracks here!
Thu, September 11, 2008 - 5:08 PMBrian, love the eq'ing you've done on your synths, they sit really tightly. nice, evil groove. cool progression, tight mix. nothing I can really say on the constructive criticism front, it seems like a solid piece to me. -
-
Re: Post new tracks here!
Fri, September 12, 2008 - 2:50 AMNice piece, Brian!
I like your vibe from your whole tribe personal page, as well.
I also liked that you had a nice downtempo vibe going on but it was also treading in
Dark Ambient territory.
I have a tribe called Dark Ambient here at tribe...............you should post this at that tribe if
you feel like it. People there would like it.
Dark Ambient Groove with those chord changes, eh?
nice work! -
-
Re: Post new tracks here!
Fri, September 12, 2008 - 2:59 AMI really liked Drop 40 as well, sArO!
it's nice and unusual which is a very cool thing in these days of a zillion mp3s on the web.
I have one gratuitous little comment (and this just may be aesthetics so feel free to disregard it).
I think your piece would have more atmosphere if you were to reduce the hi hat track volume significantly............
like as much as 6 dB.
Being a drummer all of my life, professionally, one thing I've learned about production is that
you cannot, literally, play a high hat in real time , so quietly that it doesn't affect a track.
Humans have such a peak in the midrange frequencies that hi hats, snares of snare drums and cymbals inhabit
that we can really make tracks with these instruments a lot quieter and still have them be very effective.
Again, this might be aesthetics, but I found that their volume made the piece more linear (less spacial) than it has the ability to be.
A small critique , however, as I really enjoyed the piece. Thanks for sharing! -
-
This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: Post new tracks here!

Re: Post new tracks here!
Fri, September 12, 2008 - 11:32 AMThanks Joe. I appreciate you listening and commenting.
Also, thank you for your comments Rick. Dark ambient huh? Sure, I will post it in your tribe, I am already a member.
Joe, I just listened to your sonic nightmare. (I mean that in the best possible way, of course).
Whoa. What a trip. I rarely listen to grindcore, but I can really appreciate this.
It's intense, relentless mayhem. I love how psychedelic and twisted the whole things is. You change pace, and add corners to your arrangement in good creative ways.
The hard edgy sounds and balance between bpms, energy, timbre, etc works really well.
I don't know if I can say too much about this piece. ...I feel weird now.... thanks :P
I also don't know how you can work on a piece like this. I imagine some part of the track looping while you sit calmly applying EQ or panning changes, while your neighbors think something is going horribly wrong at your place. -
-
Re: Post new tracks here!
Fri, September 12, 2008 - 12:59 PMThanks for the feedback guys. Brian and Rick, I can see what you mean. I'll revamp it - again...lol. I can agree that the cybals do stand out a bit too much in places. I think it would be safe to leave them strong on that intro phrase and them bring them down in the mix afterward. They should not be the stand out element of the tune.
Brian, before listening, I'm sure it's great. I dig your tracks a lot. I'll peep it out.
Joel, I peeped the Opposite of Faith tracks and dug them. They had that dark sort of Morcheeba/Portishead style. Nice to hear it in a new way.
Kage, as far as house goes - which I'm not terribly fond of - your track was surprisingly enjoyable for me. It had a chillout vibe that was very pleasant.
Sorry, no time to get more detailed, but I'm liking all that I've heard. Keep it up, folks.

Fri, July 31, 2009 - 9:03 AMI know tribe is pretty much a ghost town, but if there are any lingering ghosts, here is some music I composed recently....

Re: actually I'm not
Sat, August 1, 2009 - 9:00 PMwhat a cool concept......................... tribe.net as a ghost town.
I was really depressed at how people lost faith in the site (with many good reasons for a while)
because I love it's vibe vastly more than facebook, myspace, friendster, live journal or youtube.
But now if I think of it as a ghost town that a few sentient human beings still inhabit it
makes it one of those 'last person on earth' scenarios and vastly more interesting
and less depressing than just 'the death of a paradigm that I grew to love"
Thanks for the concept. -

Re: actually I'm not
Sun, August 2, 2009 - 8:37 AMHey Rick, glad the metaphorical re-framing works for you.
I think the post-apocalyptic mad max vibe of Tribe is suiting with respect to it's roots.
Perhaps it will bounce back, perhaps not, but I am not going to migrate to the suburban planned communities of facebook, myspace, etc.
Low traffic sometimes weeds out the chumps, the spam, and the pop. Great!
