I may have mentioned this to you cats before, but it bears mentioning again.

THE PERFORMANCE WARRANTEE IS WORTH IT!!!!

I bought my Dennon DJ headphones in August last year with a two year extended performance guarantee ($40 additional option). Today, the 1/4" adaptor broke (the plastic piece inside that holds them together separated and the tip will stick in sockets). I couldn't find my receipt, so I called the Oxnard store where they were purchased and they gave me the sales, sku and warrantee numbers. I called the service center and explained the issue. The first lady thought the broken piece was an accessory. I kindly forced her into transferring to her supervisor and explained the issue to her. She noted my frustration in getting the first operator to understand my issue and I don't think that she really grasped it herself. Suffice to say, the headphones are the most solid I've work for the price (they are tank quality) and they sound bad ass for headphones and they still work fine minus the 1/4" adaptor being broken. She took the information over the phone and opted not to send the (apparently optional) form for me to fill out and gave me a tracking number over the phone and told me to expect a two party check within a couple of weeks or so (two party meaning in my name to be used only at any GC). I accidentally failed to mention that my old Sony adaptor fits and works fine. The check's in the mail and I am super satisfied. And, I had purchased these with a similar check (though less in value) for my busted Seinheiser cans that I no longer even had at the time (they did really have a short in the cord though...Mouse may still have them - lol).

So, the moral of the story is, boyz and goilz, buy your semi-disposable gear from GC and get the Performance Guarantee. It's based on price of the item and it's well worth it. I've never had a pair of headphones last flawlessly for more than two years. If I was getting to the point...woops, I can't believe they just broke. It may not be honest, but how many times have you been burned on gear? Take it back, yo!!!

Okay, shameless promotion of my devious methods and GC's policy ended.

  • Unsu...

yea, but you paid $40 for a piece of plastic to break on you. your still screwed. in general, paying for those added warranties are a rip off. it would have been better to go with different headphones that don't break....
    • Yeah I agree that the warranties are usually a rip off. I bought one for a QSC PLX 3602 amp. But I haven't had to use it.

If I buy something and it breaks in something like 3 months what I usually do is buy a new one and then bring back the old one and say the new one broke. I know it is a pretty shifty thing to do. But so is selling a piece of crappy merchandise.

My understanding of what happens in this instance is Guitar Bastard usually boxes up the bad one and sends it back and receives credit for the merchandise.
      • Allan, let me explain this better and maybe you'll see why I am happy. Not that I want you to do anything that you do not want to, but the point didn't get across me thinks.

I bought the headphones in August last year and they are the most solid headphones that I've ever had.and they have the best sound quality of headphones that I've used for DJing and producing (my only qualm is that they are a bit heavy). So, I've been using them to no end at work, home and at gigs for about 8 months ($5 per month so far - not too bad). The headphones work great and the only thing wrong is that a replaceable piece that I have a replacement for broke (no big loss, right?). Being slightly peeved that they would go to market w/ a substandard 1'4" adapter (which are less than $5 alone), I called...not expecting to get a new pair, but was pleasantly surprised (I chalk a lot of that up to being a good phone center abuser and the operators having little idea as to what I was talking about). So, for $40, I have two pair of working headphones. Works for me. I hope that makes it sound more fun and exciting. If not, hey, do what works for you.

Personally, I would never buy a pair of headphones without the performance guarantee. All in all, I've paid $60 (just the guarantee costs - and I'll consider the other $159 a ride on GC to be carried over to my next pair) for 3 pair of headphones for the last 3+ years (I know people that have spent more for headphones in that same amount of time)). And Stickboy is right as well...what headphones do not break? Find me some of those and I'll buy them w/ a performance guarantee and "accidentally" break them just before it's up and viola, new gear again. Sure, it's a bit deceitful, but GC isn't stocked full of angels and I've definitely paid my way there.
