The Fabulous Aurie Making My Work Look Awesome

Aurie flattered me by asking if she might sport one of my creations. The ruff was positively oversized (17.5) for her swan-like neck, so the very clever minx refashioned it with a few pins and a very sure hand. Hey, presto, Italian standing ruff, thank-you-very-much-indeedy!!!!! My photo (for which she so kindly posed) was a bit glare-filled, so I added some agate-tiled background to set off her beauty. This ruff is about 2.5" deep, composed of 180" of waffle-weave linen, with a lace edge. I was worried it would detract from Auries fab gown, but it really turned out well, especially for an improtu. I've known Aurie for other 30 years, and she never ceases to amaze me. I'm sorry I didn't capture the equally lovely Sharon, Shelley, Ilen, Hilary, Amy, Silas, Joseph, and Deborah who also submitted to ruff treatment.

Pinned cartridge pleats ready for basting, then stitching. And I thought THAT was a challenge...then I had to starch and block the damned thing. Had NO idea it'd take days and days for the wet, starched ruff to dry. Then the blocking...argh...many more practice ruffs in my future, I can see.
