Pinned cartridge pleats ready for basting, then stitching. And I thought THAT was a challenge...then I had to starch and block the damned thing. Had NO idea it'd take days and days for the wet, starched ruff to dry. Then the blocking...argh...many more practice ruffs in my future, I can see.

I made this outfit for a friend of mine to wear in the Known World Player's production of Much Ado About Nothing at Pennsic 38. All wool and linen.

...I did a little embroidered detail on the panes and cod. I spent a lot of time at the wedding discussing the nature and history of the codpiece and why my trousers were laced to my jacket. Luckily, I was not the only person in costume. LOL.

I need to go out and get some posed pictures of this outfit without the mask and patched coat. But for the nonce, this will do... Does give a better idea of the tailoring on the doublet since I'm not so thin from being sick in this picture. As is inevitable in a candid photo, my panes are a bit askew... sigh.

Inspired and constructed along the lines of the Garzia deMedici clothes which are still extent and along the color lines of the Moroni tailor. The doublet was made (almost) entirely by hand with the machine relegated to only the longer construction seams that are concealed by the lining. The trunkhose were made mostly on the machine because I did not have time to complete them in time for the wedding for which I made this... or at least for which I gave myself the deadline to get them done. This is the first time I had the whole thing together and ready to wear, a day before the wedding.

Pictured with an old pair of paned trunkhose and un-pointed. I'd been sick for awhile before this photo was taken and the doublet is tailored for my normal (and current) bodyweight.
