I hate those stretchy Dritz eyelets/grommets!!! Does anyone have a good source for stronger 2-piece eyelets/grommets? I'm looking for some "silver" in colour that can go through both fabric (stretch velvet) and about 1/8" of leather. Internal diameter 1/8 to 1/4 inch. It's not Elizabethan-related, but you all are so knowledgeable, this is the first place I thought to come to ask.. thanks!

Re: more substantial eyelets/grommets?
Wed, August 19, 2009 - 11:38 AMIf you're looking IRL, then a hardware store (Ace or the like) will carry heavy-duty ones intended for canvas applications, tents tarpaulines &c.
Smaller is harder, but you can usually find decent ones at leatherworking suppliers such as MacPherson's Leather in Portland/Seattle (and online) or even Tandy (which is just about everywhere, incl. online).
Good luck!

Wed, August 19, 2009 - 1:46 PMI got my last set from Hedgehog Handworks, in silver and brass/gold. They have various sizes available. Check other corset making stores online, like Farthingales or Lacis.

Wed, August 19, 2009 - 4:46 PMIf you can, get a sample so you can check if what you want to buy fits your insertion tool/method. Have some grommets that only fit certain tools - bummer! I buy gross from Richard the Thread in LA - they're FABulous. -

Thu, August 20, 2009 - 4:05 PMYup hardware store (usually only in brass) or any good corset supplier. Richard the Thread, Farthingales, Corsetmaking.com. You can get the setting tools there, too if you wants grommets in a size different than what you're trying now. The Dritz setter will not work well on "real" grommet, even of the same size. Get a good setter. :-) -

Tue, September 1, 2009 - 10:38 AMMy husband actually used black enamel to paint the brass and silver grommets when we were at Court. You have to be very careful if you touch them up after you set them, though. -

Re: more substantial eyelets/grommets?
Tue, September 1, 2009 - 2:52 PMjason.. these are movie costumes.. so I need to be as time efficient as possible. Someone in my 3D world has told me of a place downtown that does eyelets for corsets $7 for a whole corset.. and I don't need that many in each costume.. so.. woohoo! and much closer for me than driving to Farthingales clear across town! -
