Liz, do you have any recommendations? I've been in a 9/8 mood and desperately looking for 9/8 in the sound that you often dance to -- not the D-D-D-ttt kind...

Wed, December 19, 2007 - 11:44 AMHey Lisa!
Well, Amazon has a few things like Road to Kesan with Selim Sesler, The Gypsies of Turkey, and Sulukule. But I think I may be behind the times with all the stuff available on the web. I'd google Turkish Gypsy, and roman havasi, oyun havalari, and see what comes up. Besides that, next time I see you, remind me and I'll give you a mix.

Wed, December 19, 2007 - 3:08 PMThanks :) I bought the Road to Kesan when I posted that note. I *love* that album! Great. Sulukule wasn't exactly what I was hoping to find... I'll check out the other stuff. Thanks, Liz!

Re: Music...
Fri, February 1, 2008 - 11:44 AMI ADORE Stellamara, and would highly recommend anything of theirs - and they have a great deal in more interesting time signatures (not all 4/4). When it comes to Turkish Rom music for dancing, I get really picky, and go with the trad stuff that is specifically Rom from Turkey, because the music/rhythm and the dance are indescribably interlocked.
