...The Dynamic Trio!!!!!

Liz Strong, Mira Betz, and Zoe Jakes @ Mecca!!!
Workshops and a Performance!!
July 5-6, 2008

Mira Betz

Isolations and Layering- Hot Diggady!
class time: 12:30pm- 3:00pm

Ever feel as though your learning curve has reached a plateau? This workshop is a rousing motivational tool to enhance one’s personal practice. Mira will begin with a thorough breakdown of basic isolations and will gradually increase into multiple layering designed to bewilder the brain and electrify the body. Add spice to your dance, take a step to the next level, this workshop is an asset to any dancer. All levels welcome to the party!
class fee: $50 (by June 30th, $60 after)

Sunday, July 6th- Liz Strong Workshop
TURKISH ROMAN FUSION:
class time: 12:00noon- 2:30pm
The more you know, the more confidently you will express your unique voice. Expand your dance vocabulary, and explore the energizing 9/8 rhythm! Learn the dance in its true
form, and then fuse it to other dance elements. Turkish Rom dance is richly expressive and playful, passionate and fun. Students will dance the pure formto traditional music in 9/8 time signature. Then we will use non-traditional music to create a scintillating, original fusion choreography, drawing on the technique and knowledge of the folkloric form.

Please bring a notebook, and wear yoga pants, a simple hip sash and a comfortable top.
class fee: $50 (by June 30th, $60 after)
Fancy kicks, tight spins and those elusive concepts to take pops and locks to the next level by mixing the liquid smoothness of a snake with hits and stops that look almost inhuman. This workshop will focus on ways to perform with passionate expression while maintaining control and grace. These concepts will be fully broken down using short combinations as examples so the student is able to get a real understanding of the mechanisms behind them.

Anybody Wanna Go To Kosmos Camp?

My friend and I have both had to cancel our plans to go to Kosmos Camp (June 5-8) and are selling our tickets. We reserved a Couples Canopy (two-person accommodation with a queen mattress) but you can always bring your own tent or sleep under the stars if you wish.

This year (as in previous years) the camp boasts an impressive roster of music and dance teachers, including Mira Betz, Elizabeth Strong, Aubre, Zoe Jakes and Vicki Virk. What's not to love? For more info about the camp go to www.kosmoscamp.com

We paid $295 each, a terrific deal for a last-minute camper especially since single tickets are now costing $375.

If interested please contact Renee at renee.drellishak@gmail.com First come first served!

I am Czech Rep. after a whirlwind couple of weeks spent teaching and performing in Dublin, moving through Prague to teach in Croatia, driving to Slovenia for two - four hour days of workshops, train to Prague again, and bussing out to Brno to teach and perform once again before collapsing at Bri's countryside home in Makov, Czech Rep.

Today off to Krakow, Poland for a week and a half, and to teach two - three hour workshops the weekend of the 29th and 30th.

It has been one of the most tiring trips, and certainly the most rewarding!! The information that I have shared is truly appreciated by enthusiastic dancers everywhere I have been, and I feel like I have something of value to give. A great feeling.

I'll put up some pics, too.

Thanks to all those who have helped me build up a reputation decent enough to get me across Europe teaching!!! Woohoo!

I want to know what people have seen in instructional dvds that they enjoyed.

Also what are things that you have not seen in an instructional dvd that you would like to see, or see more of?

I'm beginning the brainstorming process for putting together a Turkish Rom Dance instructional dvd, and would love your thoughts!!

Many Thanks,
Elizabeth

Looking for another Europe host!

Anyone out there recommend a good host anywhere in Europe - preferably Spain or France?? Tobias, Bri Hurley and I had our Madrid host back out. I was looking forward to getting that far west at that time, but something in Central Europe would work, too.

Preferably, we need someone willing to host the three of us, even if it is for a day - but a 12 hour (two 6 hour days focused on technique and rhythms) weekend long thing is what we have arranged to do in some of these other locations (Prague, and Bratislava).

Is this an appropriate tribe discussion topic?? I dunno, but I figure this is worth trying!
Anyone? Anyone....?

Elizabeth, you're my wedding gift to my dear friend Jalene! She was so excited that you're comming here right before she leaves to get married in Mexico that I decided to pay for your workshops as her wedding present. I'm sure her husband would rather have a happy bride than a panini grill anyway....

articulation, and building the foundational strength
and flexibility to directly support your dancing
technique and prevent injuries. Focus will be on
increasing pelvic, hip, spine, and shoulder
pronounced isolations, with new yogic, integrated
awareness that will change your dancing at the core!.
Also learn healthy ways for laybacks and backbending
to save your low back, and 'floating' upper body for
stage.

Another Class Series!!!

Hello Friends!

I am pleased to announce that I will be teaching another class series beginning this Monday, April 16th.

The format of this one will be different from last time and will also include belly dance (basic to mid-level - I'd love folks with relatively little training to be able to feel at ease, but also be able to keep up with and challenge those at intermediate and even advanced levels). Definately a hearty amount of isolation and repetition, with some choreography at the end of each class.

Here are the details:

Spring Fall Studio
2547 Eighth St., Berkeley
Mondays 4/16-5/21 (6 weeks)
8-9pm Belly Dance
9-10pm Turkish Roman Dance

1 class drop-in $11
2 class drop-in $20
6 class package $60
Series $108 (a purty good deal!)

for any other info, please visit my website at www.strongdancer.com

Come on down and dance!!

Hey Lovelies!

I am most excited to announce an upcoming Turkish Roman workshop series beginning next Monday.

The best thing about this one is that there is going to be a kick-ass party with incredible live music at the end of the series so we can all get our live music improv on (*gasp*!). I know I need the practice, for sure.

Here are the details:

January 15th - February 12th
Mondays 8-9:30pm
Spring Fall Studio
2547 8th St. (between Dwight and Parker Streets)

Hey All,

I have had the Evolution dvd's available on my site for some time, and no one has bought any from there! :(

They are $25 plus $2.50 shipping and handling (a little cheaper than Peko/Hollywood) and if you buy it from me, you are helping support a performing artist (don't worry, the producers are still getting their cut!)

If you don't already have a copy, I recommend getting one: Kami Liddle, Zoe Jakes, Urban Tribal and Devadasi, among others are performing on there!

Hey, I just got this link from Rachel of the Pogonometric Revue Tour show in SF - it's kind of random, but cute:

http://web.mac.com/chchchchela/iWeb/Site/Podcast/6AEB3FAF-44CE-4D17-9A88-207E3CC6DAB3.html

I had a little trouble getting it to work at first until I went to http://web.mac.com/chchchchela/iWeb/Site
first, and then added /Podcast/6AEB3FAF-44CE-4D17-9A88-207E3CC6DAB3.html
after - but sometimes machines hate me so it might work just fine for everyone else...

enjoy!

And I am really excited that Mira, Jill Parker, and Amy Sigil will ALL be teaching bellydance!

PLUS there is a pool, a huge hot tub, yoga, massage, all the dance and music, percussion and singing workshops you could want, and great parties and performances at night.
