So I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to camp in my car this year, now that we have to park so far away ...
Can you walk directly from the Burbs to the main stage area? Or do you have to walk down to the street, up the street, then enter area 7? The map on the La Jolla Reservation page is not terribly helpful. If you can walk directly, how does the walk to the main stage compare to, say, the walk from the greeter's station, or from where Phat Elvis was last year?

Re: Walking from the Burbs to the main stage ...
Tue, June 16, 2009 - 10:12 PMIf I understood the response correctly when I asked about parking (see an earlier topic post)...the burbs/parking will be to the right of the greeter station (same greeter station as last year). Again, that's if I understood it correctly! -

Re: Walking from the Burbs to the main stage ...
Tue, June 16, 2009 - 10:23 PMYeah, I read that thread and the response was unclear. "To the right" is pretty vague. How far are we talking about, here? 100 yards past the greeter station? 200 yards? etc -

Wed, June 17, 2009 - 7:33 AM200 yards seems about right.

Re: Walking from the Burbs to the main stage ...
Wed, June 17, 2009 - 8:43 AMarea 6 starts at the bridge and heads right just as far that direction as it is if you were to enter area 7 and walk all the way to the far corner of area 7. you can think of the bridge as just about perfectly in the middle of the whole shebang.

Re: Walking from the Burbs to the main stage ...
Wed, June 17, 2009 - 10:13 AMone thing that I have learned from attending and throwing events at this location is, BRING YOUR PLAYA BIKE!!! not only is it fun to have some form of mutant vehicle there, but it became really fun to tool around the whole campground without having to expel every last ounce of energy in the hot sun. This place can hit 100 degrees rather quickly in the summer.
do the orgs have anything against having bicycles? -

Re: Walking from the Burbs to the main stage ...
Wed, June 17, 2009 - 10:22 AMI'm glad you said something -- Didn't even cross my mind to bring a bike, even though I was wondering about the walking distances... -

Re: Walking from the Burbs to the main stage ...
Wed, June 17, 2009 - 10:24 AMReally, the walking isn't a big deal at this event...everything is close...in my humble opinion of course. -

Re: Walking from the Burbs to the main stage ...
Wed, June 17, 2009 - 10:46 AMit the past this has been true, but if you add in area 6 like they did this year, the walk from 1 end of camp to the other is a good trek that could take you 20 mins. dont forget just how far back area 7 goes. if you extend area 6 equally in the other direction, we are talking about a kilometer walk edge to edge. -

Re: Walking from the Burbs to the main stage ...
Wed, June 17, 2009 - 10:51 AMI've heard you have to walk even further at Burning Man. -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.

Wed, June 17, 2009 - 11:36 AMyeah, guess that's the point of comparison I was going for...
to me Elysium is a cake walk (pardon the pun)....compared to the getting places at the Burn...

Re: Walking from the Burbs to the main stage ...
Wed, June 17, 2009 - 1:51 PMBikes are absolutely ok. Bring'em!
Sooooooooo if from the farthest end of area 7 to farthest corner of area 6 is about 15 minutes. Divide that by 2 (the bridge is right in the middle) and you get.......a little over 7 minute walk.
Now...if you stop at every camp, say hi, go back and change clothes, then get going again, and then remember that you forgot your water bottle in camp and return, then leave again only to find all your friends sitting in a camp about 2 minutes from your tent so you stop and chatt with them, then decide you are hungry and need a munch, and then try to leave camp again in may take you about 4 hrs to cross the area.
I'm just sayin.... -
