Re: The Music was Ouststanding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wed, June 24, 2009 - 11:14 AMI thought saturday night between 1am and the first band in the morning was a little hard to take. Nothing interesting ,no lyrics just repetitive nonsense. plus I camped to close to the stage. Friday night on the other hand....I spent those same hours of the early morn having a religious experience stuck to the floor of my tent shitting myself laughing and repeating these words "HOLY SHIT JESUS CHRIST MOTHER FUCKER" In between moments of begging it to stop. I want to start a band and call it that. I could not stand up but could not stop my arms and legs from doing the most intense lyrical movements I have ever experienced. -

Re: The Music was Ouststanding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wed, June 24, 2009 - 1:27 PMYeah, Patricio had the crowd whipped into a frenzy on Sat night only to have the vibe brought down to meh when the glitch set started around 1am. its a shame because I woulda liked to have seen chris gardener inherit a popping dancefloor.
I am all for different types of music, but the TIMING is very important.
that being said: MOST of the music was VERY good. I enjoyed the variety. prior to around 1am-ish on Sat. night was the most rockin' I have seen a dancefloor at one of these small-ish events.
thanks for everyone who made that night as amazing as it was. -

Re: The Music was Ouststanding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wed, June 24, 2009 - 1:49 PMI did think the rockin' music seemed to start a little late on Saturday night. I liked the music, just not at that time. Alot of us in my camp were huddled around being cranky about it. I don't know if others agree. -

Wed, June 24, 2009 - 2:09 PMMyself and MANY other agree whole-heartedly, Bouncy.
I DO want to make sure, however, that this is seen as constructive criticism. I am ever so grateful for an amazing time---I dont want this to be perceived as un appreciative!!!!

Re: The Music was Ouststanding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wed, June 24, 2009 - 3:03 PMI totally agree. I was camped to close and was to tired to escape so I roughed it out. In my OPINION, smore up beat stuff should be played at the end to keep people happy and energetic. The only people happy about the music early Sunday morn were probably seriously altered.

Re: The Music was Ouststanding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wed, June 24, 2009 - 9:00 PMI agree with bouncy.
I've talked to at least half a dozen people who wanted to dance on Saturday night, but who were basically lulled to sleep by the mellower music playing until almost midnight. I talked to at least a dozen others between 9 and midnight who were frustrated because they wanted to get their dance on but couldn't.
Don't get me wrong: I like most of the bands who played. There is absolutely a place for Helios Jive at events like Elysium, and I like the fact that the organizers were giving us more musical options than we usually see at these events.
However, to be blunt, while there is a time and a place for acts like that, that time and place is not at the main stage at 10pm or 11PM, particularly when other camps have been told they can't have amplified sound.
This has been a problem at Elysium at least three of the four years - and heck, probably at Elysium year 2, but I just don't remember. I know why it happens: the organizers (who do a great job!) love these acts, and want to give them a showcase. That's awesome. At Elysium year 1 it was too many fire performances - luckily the RLD stepped up for those who wanted to dance. Last year it was too many fire performances (and i say that even acknowledging that one of those fire performances was the best one I've ever seen), the Cow opera, etc.
This yeah, well ... I LIKE helios jive. It's a great, chill band. Fun to listen to. Good musicians. But absolutely wrong for a time when lots and lots of people are itching to dance.
But by an hour after dark on Saturday, we need a DJ playing something we can dance to.
Braden and Patricio really stepped it up and got us going again. They were awesome. Pretty much everyone of the musical acts I heard was fantastic.
Just, give us something to dance to Saturday evening. Please! -

Re: The Music was Ouststanding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thu, June 25, 2009 - 6:36 AMI'm glad I'm not the only one who wasn't stoked on the music schedule.
Saturday night, we dragged ourselves away from a really fun camp-hang only to wind up near the main stage waiting for something to happen. We stuck it out for a while, but gave up around 11:00(?), probably just as things were about to get going.
Oh well, can't have it all ~ We had a fucken great weekend anyway...

Re: The Music was Ouststanding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tue, July 7, 2009 - 12:29 AMwell, the energy level on the dancefloor speaks volumes. It went from 600+ people throbbing to like 75 people with a dozen "dancing?" in the course of 20 minutes.
I like classical music but I wouldnt make you listen to it at peak hours at a party when everyone has been worked into a frenzy by house electro and breaks. Im all for diversity and bound not to like some genres very much. Shit, most of the stuff in the genres I love is crappy, but I think the TIMING with the energy AND expectations of the crowd is damn important. If I had a crowd made predominantly of drum and bass kids, i wouldn't go playing house music at peak hours. I know glitch is up and coming ( eww), but ouside of its crowd it is still hard to swallow for some, ESPECIALLY as peak hour music.
Its your party, do as you will. And I had an AMAZING time ( thank you again) but ive always been a little perplexed by some of the music timing at all the Elysiums. I think we have the talent, kow how and resources to have that events dance floor hopping for HOURS on end if the timing of artist was just fine tuned a little.
with love and repect <3

Re: The Music was Ouststanding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tue, July 7, 2009 - 2:56 PMI think every year there are always those who are "perplexed by some of the music timing at all the Elysiums." I am one of them. :-)
And every Elysium we have had so far, was AMAZING by all accounts.
I personally, didn't expect Helios Jives to be so mellow- AMAZING but a bit mellow...I've been to their shows where they put out some tunes that made everyone bounce off the walls. Oh well, 1 and 1/2 hours of "chill" before BRADEN didn't seem to kill anyone.
And on the last remark...the more diversity we bring to the event, the wider the range of the opinions will be on whether people liked the music, whether it was good timing, etc.
(for me Psytrance at 4am is THE BEST along with a handful of others, but some found in excruciating some years ago :-), some love starting out their night at 11am with some mellower tunes of Helios Jives and get bouncy a bit later at night.
however, we are very thankful for all for sharing your opinions- we definatly listen to when our friends speak out and try improve the event and make it a best experience possible for all of you!
lotza luv 4 you,
