I bought stuff to make tomato/mozzerella salad, red potato salad, spaghetti squash with pasta sauce, plus apples, nectarines, black Manuka grapes, cukes, sweet red, yellow and green peppers, cantalope and Crenshaw melons, Plus some Kettle Korn for snacks. Everyone is able to be in the cabin with the frenz they wanted. If you are interested in carpooling. <div>The Parks Dept recycles Aluminum and tin cans.... the last few years we have collected bottles and I brought them back.... A sticky, icky mess..... Some of the Retreat Worker Beez and I are talking about people bringing home their own bottles &amp; paper recyclables....We are going to bring some extra bags and maybe the empties can find a good place to be stored for the weekend.... What do you all think? Unfortunately at this time the park does not recycle paper or bottles and I hate to see that stuff get thrown away and it does not make sense to me to host a retreat where I make a Contribution to Wetland Benefits only to have us throw away perfectly good recycled goodies... I have the list from Indigo on what to bring and even though its 2+ months away, I'm planning my hafla performances, thinking about packing and generally gearing up for the big event. Question is... or, questions are... <br/> <br/>Is there a microwave in the apparently well endowed kitchen? <br/>Are there electrical outlets in the cabins for hair dryers, etc? <br/>How chilly does it get at night? Meaning the earlier you send in your registration the easier it is to guarantee you will get a cabin in w/ the peeps of your choice.... <br/> Cabins have 10 beds in them so when planning you can keep that in mind and Please oh Please write down all the peeps you want to be in a cabin with..... and please let me know if there is anything special to consider (such as allergies) so I can have this mostly taken care of before we are actually at the retreat... Erik &amp; Delilah will hopefully 'Demystify the art of the Drum Solo' with us! I'm hoping Alimah's Hot Little Booty will help us schmooze on the dance floor &amp; Sahabra &amp; Yasmin will roll out the Blue Guedra for us..... As well as a few more...... WooHOO Got a All Start Line up..... I'm excited.... Workingg on rearranging the retreat so we get the same amount of Workshop time only we get to really delve into and spend time with each instructor to really understand what they are showing us...... <br/> <br/> So now onto the other info...... With having a all star Line-up &amp; with the cost of Camp Delaney going up and when I actually looked at the figures. I realized the price of the Retreat has to go up...... I honestly was losing $$ on the children's price..... I am going to raise the payment for Instructors and honestly I want to have a nice check to hand over to the Stilly-Snohomish Task Force...... WildLands, Wetlands, Wolves and Salmon and all need ALL the Help we can give! So please understand the cost of the Retreat has to go up this year..... It will still be Quite Affordable Especially for the Quality of Instruction we will Be receiveing this year! <div>For those of you not in the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism) here's a heads up about an upcoming workshop. <br/> <br/>I will be teaching a two hour workshop in Everett at the Aquaterra Spring Ithra, being held at the Everett Community College on Saturday April 5th at 11:00am. For more info you can go to www.antir.sca.org/upcoming/ click on Aquaterra Spring Ithra in the April section and it will take you to th elink. <br/> <br/>You do not have to be a member of the SCA to attend... the workshop is free but you will have to pay the SCA gate fee which is I think less than $10. So you are getting a two hour workshop with me for less than $10. I don't do this very often so you should jump on it if you can. <br/> <br/>The workshop will cover "period" Middle Eastern dance from 600-1650... basically the Medieval age. We will discuss art works costuming, dance moves (as defined by art works and period resources), musical comprehension, the movement of the dance form from the Middle East and up through Europe... down to how we perceive it now. <div>Gilana, Simone and myself went to First Saturday Hafla last night in Mt. Vernon. Many of the dancers had spent last weekend at Sanctuary.... or as Corri and Brooke like to call it, *bellydance camp*. In the dressing rooms so many of us said, "I missed you this week." or "Something came up this week and you weren't around to tell.... wish Emerald Sanctuary was every week" That sort of thing. <br/> <br/>As Sahabra was introducing dancers she would let it slip that this one or that one had been one of the wild women who had attended Emerald Sanctuary... and for those who didn't attend in the audience they had these strange looks that crossed their faces. You could tell they weren't in the know... but those who had been looked around at others who had been and gave knowing looks and little winks. <br/> <br/>To this end while Gilana was preparing to go on stage, Simone and I had a great idea...... <br/>T-shirts that say "What happens at Emerald Sanctuary, stays at Emerald Sanctuary" We got the giggels... it was sort of like one of those Vegas cammercials where the person has to come up with a some-what lie to their significant other or something. <br/> <br/>So come on Indigo... can we have *club* T-shirts?!? Thank you very much and I look forward to knowing all of you lovely people better. <br/> <br/>Camp Dates: Thurs Aug 23-Sun Aug 26 2007 <br/> <br/>Driving Directions: The location we will be camping at is Camp Delaney located within Sun Lakes State Park, which is really close to the Grand Coulee Dam… Address of Camp Delaney + Driving directions + ranger phone # in case you get lost: <br/> <br/>34785 Park Lake RD NE Coulee City WA 99115 <br/> <br/>Directions from Wa State Parks Website: <br/>Located seven miles southwest of Coulee City, Wash.. <br/> <br/>From eastbound I-90: <br/>Take exit #151 to SR 283. Go through Ephrata, and continue on to Soap Lake. If you are interested in carpooling and looking for a carpool buddy or two please email me your name, where you are coming from, email address and phone # and I will forward the email to all others who have signed up for the retreat and maybe we can get a few extra carpools hooked up that way…. <br/> <br/>Food + Facilities: You are expected to bring your own food and cook for yourself at this retreat (unless you can talk someone into cooking for you) There are Huge freezers and refrigerators available at camp and cooking dishes + dishes and big stoves. You may want to bring your own cooking utensils in case there are not enough to be shared. Propane stoves and bbq’s that are contained are allowed at Camp Delaney. There are warm showers available and cabins available. <br/> <br/>Fires: Open Fires are not allowed this time of year at Camp Delaney. Propane cooking stoves and bbq’s that are self-contained are allowed. The ecosystem is very dry this time of year and 1 small slip up could easily start a ridiculous fire so please be careful…. <br/> <br/>Recyclables: Camp Delaney offers can recycling however I would like to set up a few bottle recycling boxes / bags and would like help when camp is done if a few people can offer to bring bottles back to where they can be recycled…. <br/> <br/>Clean Up: Camp cost is kept to a minimum and I need everyone’s help in cleaning up camp. Simply clean own dishes, if you see trash please pick up and clean up cabin on last day… The more help / hands do this the easier this is for all. Let’s all work to have Camp Delaney cleaner when we leave than when we arrive. <br/> <br/>Check in &amp; Time: There will be a registration / Check in table set up either in the Main dining hall or right outside the dining hall. Please take a moment to come and check in when you arrive at Camp Delaney. You may arrive at Camp Delaney on Thursday any time after 2 pm on Thursday Aug 23, and need to be out of camp by Sun Aug 26. Please do not arrive earlier and please try to be checked out by these times I may be charged extra for people coming to camp early or leaving late. <br/> <br/>Haflas: There will be two halfas at the retreat this year. Please feel free for you and your troupe to dance as many times as you wish. There will be registration papers for you to sign up which day / which # you want to be in the hafla. Jonathan (my sweetie) takes all the hafla music and downloads it into his computer (this is done so we get optimal sound quality and minimal random cd’s running around) So please as soon as you figure out when you are dancing please take your music to Jonathan and he will download so we can have a smooth running hafla sound system. <br/> Please if you have some Christmas lights or some type of strand of lights please bring them to help light up the main room for hafla so we can have some mood lighting. Also, feel free to help decorate the Main hall for Hafla… I am not a decoration master by any means and would love for anyone whom wants to help decorate so we can have as beautiful of a hafla as possible. <br/> And if you happen to have a big rug you can bring and roll out for hafla so we have a nice floor to dance on that would be greatly appreciated. <br/> <br/>Cabin Decorating Contest: last year the Fuzzy Monkeys fully decked out their cabin…. As a result this year we can all arrive a day early and decorate our cabins…. There will be a judge going around on Saturday afternoon to judge the cabins and there will be prizes given out…. <br/> <br/>Vendors: Lots of goodies are being brought to tempt all of us! Some of the vendors take plastic, I believe all take cash and Check…. Let’s all help lighten the load for these ladies on the way back. <br/> Vending can go on in the Main Hall everyone is invited to vend. Just so you know the tables are available. And I wanted to ask if every vendor would be willing to donate a little something for the winners of the cabin-decorating contest. So people will really have some incentive to really supe up the cabin-decorating theme. <br/> <br/>Massage Therapist: A fully excellent Massage Therapist will be on hand and will have a bed set up. She is my personal massage therapist and is really Fantastic! And I was going to put up a few bags for bottle recycling and ask if anyone has a little extra room would you be willing to take a bag of bottles back to where they can be recycled? I will double bag the bags so we can be sure no leakage will occur;) <br/> Also, this is something I stick to pretty well but and I am totally anti paper plates, plastic throw away silverware.... I will most likely take some dishes to camp and either use the sidhes I bring or use what Camp Delaney offers and wash them..... Not telling anyone out there what to do. Anfd honestly I don't judge others this is just a personal one for me.. just something I do on my own.... Honestly I'm known to take my own re-usable containers to restaurants rather than use styrofoam boxes for leftovers..... And I just spent the weekend at the MeltDown and used my own plates and cups whenever I bought food... <br/> I am also known to pick up trash pretty much wherever I walk... kind of gross but it's hard for me to pass w/out picking up... <br/> Does anyone else have any ideas?
