Re: Dubosia Hopwood ~ Pituri
Fri, July 31, 2009 - 5:53 PMThere is a Nice Section on it in the new Revised Edition of the Plants of the Gods. By Shultes, Hofmann, and Ratsch.
Ratsch is of course the source of the new sections.
Chapter called Gateway to Dreamtime.
a sample...
------------------------------------------------------------
Plants Whose Ashes Are Added to Pituri:
Protaceae
Grevillea Striata (Ljinyja)
Mimosaceae (Leguminosae)
Acacia Aneura (Mulga)
Acacia Coriacea (Awintha)
Acacia Kempeana (Witchitty Bush)
Acacia Lingulata
Acacia Pruinocarpa
Acacia Salicina
Caesalpiniaceae (Leguminosae)
Cassia spp.
Rhamnaceae
Ventilago viminalis (Atnyira)
Myrtaceae
Eucalyptus microthca (Angkirra)
Eucalyptus spp. (gums)
Eucalyptus sp. (Red Gum)
Melaleuca sp.
-------------------------------------------------------
The other Alkaloids Wiki does not mention:
Piturin, D-nor-nicotine (and of course the Nicotine it does mention), Plants of the Gods Suggests the D-nor-nicotine is the main active substance for stimulation. Myosimin, n-formylnornicotine, cotinin, n-acetyl-nornicotine, anabasine, anabatin, anatalline, and bipyridyl are also Present. The Hallucingenic tropanalkaloid hyoscyamine is in the roots, as well as traces of scopalamine, nicotine, nornicotine, metanicotine, myosimine, and n-formylnornicotine. This is for Duboisia Hopwoodii...
Duboisia myoporoides contains large quantities of scopolamine.
The Plant leaves are mixed alkaline plant ashes and then chewed.
Pitui refers in the broadest sense to all plants or plant materials that are used for magic purposes by the Australian Aborigines. Usually it refers to D. Hopwoodii, but can refer to D. Myoporoides.
There are Dream Songs and Totems, It is said that the leaves contain the essence of the land from which they grow.
Sometimes the leaves are fermented.
There are great Trade Routes to carry such plants and ingredients.
