Salvia Honey, cheap and homemade

To make your own Salvia extract that will get you wrecked beyond belief...

just soak a bunch of leaves, or fuck even extract, in STRONG clear alcohol for one day, shaking every hour or so.

strain and keep green / black liquid elixir.

This has MAD salvinorin dissolved in it.

evaporate all the alcohol.

what you're left with is pure salvinorin, basically.

Combine the above with a mixture of raw honey / warm water.

shake it all up good, mix, let it all dissolve, and let sit.

store in a vial. This is Salvinorin Honey.

extremely psychoactive.

Smoke with awareness. (Tastes awesome too!)

Well what an adventure so far. Im now in Iquitos and its day 4 of the 4th Shamanic conference
After completing an amazing 16 day shamanic tour in Peru it was time to fly to Iquitos one hour flight from the nearest road. Its hard to imagine this thriving frontier town in the middle of the amazon jungle was build and exists quite well without any roads connecting it to the outside world. Iquitos is the host to the 4th Shamanic conference and presents around 20 shamans and a few western philosophers. About 300 people have flown to this remote town to listen and get a direct experience from the shamans of the amazon and the power plants themselves, mainly ayahuasca. Last week Peru proclaimed ayahuasca a national treasure therefore keeping it out of the clutches of Americas desire to outlaw all power plants. On the first day 12 shamans introduced themselves and people could choose who they were going to drink the sacred brew with. It was a smorgasbord of shamans. I picked one to be my guide for my ayahuasca journey tonight in a thatched hut on the other side of the amazon river. There are 3 sessions planned over this 8 day conference so it not all talk.

I just returned from a 3 day trip to visit the Shipebo people and had an amazing night experiencing the ayauasca brew and 5 Shipebos chanting the mystical icaros.

Dennis Mc Kenna speech declared that ayahuasca was now going global in an attempt to get humanity to reconnect with nature and regain harmony with the natural kingdom.

Local Medicine

Hello everyone

I've experimented with other methods to raise trance - sleep deprivation, dreaming, dance, song, fasting, with varying results and experiences. I am feeling drawn towards plant medicine in my work, but I honestly do not know where to begin - this is entirely new territory for me. There is a lot of sites offering different blends of different things, and I don't know how reputable they are and something doesn't sit right with me having to purchase substances from elsewhere and was wondering if there is a good source for discovering the plant medicines that grow in the wild where I live? Before I delve into this practice I want to be equipped with a good share of tangible knowledge

The Red Rat Snake and Evil

The Voice of Conscience and Consequences
A naturalist that I knew down at the neighborhood Nature Center told me in no uncertain terms what he thought of hobbyists keeping snakes as pets. The thing is that I agreed with everything that Terry said. It was immoral. The snakes were better left in their natural environments, wherever in the world that may be, as should all wild creatures – and their natural environments needed to be kept in their natural environment. But don’t be part of the problem, he advised me. Terry loved to give us advice to us young bucks of the Young Adult Conservation Corp – YACC. He thought of himself as an everyman, as the guy standing with the little people. He was the kind of guy who would speak about “the people” with total sincerity
Adopt a dog at the pound if you want an animal, he advised finally.
So late in the evening I went to the pet store and bought this tiny little baby red rat snake. Orange and red and black and mostly white underneath and very tiny even for a baby red rat snake.
I knew that what I was doing was wrong and I did it anyway – there it is, evil such as it is for us humans. I bought an aquarium, reptile heater, a bag of pine bedding, baby mouse – yes, a baby mouse called a “pinky” because it’s the size of your pinky and extremely pink. Buddha was right on about this stuff. It’s all about desire, our weird, quirky, rude, lost desires that lead us astray, lead us to do what we know that we should not do. They should come with a sign reading: Warning, Desire. But I wanted a colorful little snake and that was that. Truly, there was quiet voice within that spoke quite clearly in the form of conscience and this inner voice told me that what I was doing was wrong. But I literally ignored it – pushed it down, pushed it away, this protest of conscience.
The little rat snake was too emaciated to survive but I didn’t know that. Of course I eventually asked Terry for his advice. After he told me how disappointed that he was in me, he told me to cut a smaller pinky in half with a pair of scissors and force feed the little bastard, warning me that it would probably not do any good at all. When I made a face he got a little pissed, “hey, you bought the thing now you have to do everything you can to help it survive, no time for squeamishness now, Dad,” he scolded cynically. And I searched the pet store for the smallest pinky that I could get and took it home and cut it in half with a pair of scissors and it was like some horrible punishment for my transgression as I applied even pressure to the scissors slicing the extremely pink and squirming baby mouse in half. This went on for weeks with the rare occasion when the little red rat snake wouldn’t throw up his gruesome meal.
When the snake finally died it was a relief. It was over. Of course our evil is never over since it is part of us, as a river is itself around every bend. The beautiful little Red Rat snake continues on with me now along with its dark gift of reminding me where evil resides and how real are its consequences.

Equinox Shamanic Journey to Peru - March 2009

I'm offering a guided Shamanic Journey to Peru in March of 2009. This year's Journey was a great success. Everyone bonded deeply and was very grateful for my efforts. The groupe was blown away by Mallku's facilitation and two individuals are considering participating again in 2009.

We will be working with world renown expert of Inca cosmology, author and shaman 'Mallku' (James Arévalo Merejildo). Mallku will lead us in ceremony at the following ancient temple sites: Pizac, Machu Picchu (twice), Ollantaytambo, Sacsayhuaman, Qenco, the water temple of Tipon, The Temple of Wiracocha, Puno, Lake Titicaca and the island of Amantani and Colca Canyon, the great canyon of the condor. Our Andean journey will afford us the opportunity to partake in 3 Huachuma (San Pedro) rituals, the last of which will be held on the morning of the equinox on the Island of Amantani (Lake Titicaca).

Since I organised the last Shamanic Adventure into Peru and Machu Picchu in 2004 amongst other things, I have been working solidly to help the whales and dolphins swim free. I will be crossing the pacific to go to the International Whaling commission meeting in Chile in June to try to help the whales and dolphins and thought this was a good opportunity to organise another Shamanic Adventure into Peru. The Sacred valley, Machu Picchu, Pulcalpa trip is $2400 USD for the 16 days and 15 nights. Which works out at $160 pr night. It will be a jammed pact shamanic adventure, not for the light hearted.

Once you arrive in Cusco everything including sessions will be paid and catered for. Internal flights though will need to be paid by you. Soul union - Mushrooms and Tantra

I've had a few lifechanging experiences with psilocybe cubensis, my first two provoked what I can only describe as tantra. The first time I've eaten godflesh was my 18th birthday, late at night with a blissful family of friends. A bit after people went to thier bedrooms I still couldn't sleep and decided to bunk on the mattress with a single guy. He and I began copulating in an amazingly slow manner while our trip continued to escalate. Our bodies flowed like every particle of our beings was meant to mesh together. Initially, my mind was full of 'OH, God, this is perfect sex! This is what they mean!' We continued to breathe and operate on the godjuice, perfectly in sync with each other and gravity. Gradually my mind filled with what seems like every thought and emotion ive experienced, until they became realized as One, then there was only the moment, oxygen, the sun that would never rise; I felt I'd experienced a satori. On a side note a ,week after that enlightening experience, I was listening to Tool's 'Lateralus' and contemplating Alex Grey paintings; and I felt, energetically, like Id understood what the paintings were portraying, followed by my head lolling back and what felt like a 'full body orgasm' taking over, which I found out was a kundalini uprising. The second time I imbibed the mushroom sacrament was just after I graduated highschool, a friend and I were sitting in the park, blissfully enjoying each others conscious company, letting the mushrooms kick in as we basked in the amazement of each others awareness and playfully trying to cross our eyes in a manner that lets us visualize each others third eye. Our conversation became more of a completion of each others thoughts, that click and understanding, until there came a moment where we both felt the same thing, we were conscious of the Us consciousness, I and You melted away. The first click was a brief with a moment of confusion, sort of like 'What was that?' 'There is no 'Was', and We became I again. To keep up our connection it felt as if I would push us further along the spiral and he would pull with the energy of what hed learned, teaching my consciousness something to digest so i could in turn power level us deeper. The whole night our internal and external enviroment was a conscious syncronicity, we felt this is exactly what we should be doing, this is what we pine for, this satisfies every metaneed. The clearest thing that was communicated was him telling me that hed never truly experienced love and was abused as a child, and I could feel exactly how bad it was and cried with direct empathy. The timeless hours had worn out our energy by sunlight, throughout the night to continue stimulating the connection it had degraded a bit because we needed physical manipulation of each other for serotonin drive, still clothed, a pure form of bodywork, pure tantra, occasionally needing an affectionate touch on bare skin. In the moments when the connection was weak it was because we would admit to desire, usually 'lets smoke', but we both knew it was a stoners neurotic impulse and continued to grace the Us until we didnt have enough energy at all, barely enough to force ourselves to find his glasses. At one of those weak moments, his eyes were shut and I could see that his Third eye was open. We have grown apart a bit as friends since then. I took mushrooms with him again the day before yesterday, and massaging his back I still felt I knew his energy, I knew his body and the tensions that formed his muscles. I got really into the massage and it sunk us into a mild trance. The mushrooms as usual were very cathartic, so at one point I broke down sobbing on him because of the pining I felt for the connection to another conscious being again. Today I had a few syncronicities and broke through my depression with the acknowledment that God is conscious and satisfies every need one could have if I let go of desire, and the realization that someday I'll lose the feeling of separateness either through physical or ego death.

Technique; A partial integration.

Weird. A cultural inhibition? Something about a difficult buy-in. I couldn’t do that before, it hadn’t sank in. Reading up on shamanising, the whole acknowledging spirits and stuff in preparation. Where were they to thank? I didn’t feel them. And with Ancestral [Worship]; nah... belongs to them that are uncivilized only. None of that me using smoke to thank anything. Cleanse… In offering… That kind of "stuff", just didn’t seem to be in my genes. well, that is... until this weekend. So they were there all right. For some reason feigning confusion seems to be our attempt at making it make sense. Spirit huh? Spooks? You end up in the loony bin.

There's just no word in the dictionary for it, no "sensible" explanation. So instead deny it. And as the voices in your head get louder. More insistent. Continue with the denial, rather suck up a new theory [or is that theorem?]. Validity is the province of really loud speakers [not of ardent seekers]. Is it possible to step back, even if for just one minute. Just long enough for a what if? What if those exotic primitive superstitions, being practiced for just about as long as we’ve been here, turned out to have something going for them? And so suspend disbelief, give it a chance, let it happen. Do it again whilst under the influence of psilocybin...

Maybe it was just a case of taking it for granted. Nothing at all to do with cultural conditioning. We all dream after all. This world is similar to that. The only difference being consciousness. So... be prepared to sleep when you wake up. You manage to achieve this, maybe chemically induced*. Then there it is, a strange new alien landscape. One that is seriously inhabited, all over the place, and with alllll sorts. At this point there might be a question; how the hell does one navigate it. Well, you remember those things that felt silly for you to even try to do, something like along the lines of you being the only guy in the class, whose mother insisted you take up a class of ballet? Maybe its time to revisit that…

It all seems to make sense now, suddenly. They did have something going for them. It wasn’t just primitive nat(ural)ive speak. The butterfly flapping its wings could indeed have an impact as big as a cyclone (even if it was just “over there”). And to get “over there”? A double entrée. It could be in your genes, something to do with drumming. Some say there are “spirits”, that can show you. I think this is true, and there are places you can find them. And then you need to eat them. And then no doubts. No doubts anymore.

*Eat them. Are you what you eat? Every cell in your body, every molecule, comprised of nourishment. Molecules made up of other molecules. Other molecules sourced from “elsewhere”. Space I guess. From thin air. Imagine that. The mao enzyme is a product of evolution. It got started from what we ate. Imagine it got created when our diet expanded. Imagine that all of this was quite recent. You can see that it could be because the food you are not allowed to eat if you disable it are not just common place, they are new types of food. Imagine that the mao enzyme was not around before that.

We know that dmt is not orally active. You need to disable the mao before you consume it before it has an effect. Dmt is in a lot of things. Things we might have survived on before our diet expanded. Imagine at that point we had no mao, that the dmt was at that time, naturally orally active. Fancyfool I suppose. But if it was like that, how often were our ancestors tripping? Permanently? Might that explain the development of a spirit world? And psychological production?

It didn’t take me long of using a “spirit guide” to establish what feels like quite a solid connection with something that until now, was perceived as some kind of nonexistent cultural specific aberration. I could propose an entirely new theory [or is that theorem?]. Hell, I could even align myself with convincing recounts of alien abduction. There would be a lot of theory that I could throw into both of them, lots of stuff to keep one preoccupied. But for now I think maybe the primitives actually had something going for them.

It’s them I need to look towards for guidance right now. It seems they were more right than the guy down the road, selling salvation to them “that were chosen”, and calling any alternatives a very bad case of demon possession. It’s them that blow on stuff with smoke, chasing away the evil spirits. Them that say it’s possible, to strike up a conversation with everything - trees, animals, water. Rocks. They were trying to tell us all along, it’s not listening that’s a modern introduction.

Uncle Heart

At an afternoon tea party I met uncle heart today. He smells of moth balls, tobacco and bourbon and he drew me in with a warm and manly hug around my shoulder. He has the memory of an elephant, uncle heart. He is a tree, a pillar, his roots sink deep into the great mother of us all. He is difficult to fool. He loves to gossip, to take you in and whisper, "now this is strickly between your and I, ". If I need to know something or if I am unsure about someone - anyone from a politician to a shaman to a stranger, myself - he encourages me to come on over and ask. Uncle heart knows and he loves to share his confidences.He pointed significantly at sadness, "even she is smiling this afternoon," he said. When some of the other uncles showed up, he introduced them as all part of the family and made them a lot less frightful, brains blown out, lost in violence, insanity and sin. He made it seem perfectly normal that they would sit and sip tea and speak of their bloody horrors only a few feet away from sister peace. Uncle Heart caught me after my brief discourse with the warrior and with his warm arm around my shoulder turning me confidentially aside, said, "never let the warrior make the decisions," and then with a quick wink to the warrior he added, "unless absolutely necessary".

this night i offer my prayers and love to Don Solon, who, at the tender age of 86, has fallen and broken his hip and is in serious condition. i know i am not alone in saying that i had the privilege of sitting with this humble and incredible curandero, teacher of our teachers' teachers, in his little room on a noisy iquitos sidestreet, as thrice per week he continued to offer medicine, blessings, and sopladas to the young and eager, while his own health was flagging, but certainly never his spirit.

no jungle maloca. no fancy retreat. just seven of us on a concrete floor, knees scrunched up, mototaxis screaming though the city night, marveling as this man, old as time , nearly blind, and practically unintelligible in speech, led us through a ceremony of pure light, love, and gratitude, with icaros so vibrant that it seemed they could not possibly have issued forth from his ancient lips. he asked for so little, but his blessings meant so much.

thank you, Don Solon, for being there those many, many nights, for opening your door the next morning when we needed more, for the cleansing tap of your shakapa, and the protective smoke of your mapacho. you swept away the cobwebs and chased away the demons. and you left something of yourself with us. thank you for the gifts. thank you for your icaros, especially the one you sang to me and permitted me to share with others. tonight, i wish to return the favour and share it with you. and henceforth whenever i chant it, i will feel your eternal vibration flowing within and through me. i only hope i can carry it with as much grace and dignity as you do.

Any ideas on materials for musical instruments from entheogenic plants?

Being aware that Arundo donax (the plant that is used to make clarinet and saxophone reeds) has certain (possible) entheogenic properties as well as being used for thousands of years for making musical instruments, I am on the quest for finding out about more entheogenic materials for musical instruments.

Tropane usage in marijuana salve...

Hi all

I've recently made a salve from some high-grade marijuana and olive oil that works well with joint pain. Having succeeded with this first batch, I wanted to add some scopolamine containing plants (I have several Brugmansia species as well as a large, old Datura metel) to take advantage of its anti-spasmodic effects. However, as is widely known, the effects of tropane alkaloids are highly variable and the dose-response curve is very steep. As I don't really want to start hallucinating when simply trying to ease the pain in my foot, I'm approaching this one slowly.

So, my questions are thus:

- Does anyone know where to start in terms of how much to add?

- I've read the bark has the highest concentrations of alkaloids, followed by the leaves and then the flowers. The aesthetic side of me wants to use the flowers, but I'm not sure if the alkaloids are represented in an equal profile in all areas of the plant. My intuition is that this is not the case and one part of the plant may contain higher ratios of scopolamine versus atropine. If this is the case, how might I go about determining which part to use?

- What would be the best way to get these alkaloids into my salve? Can I simply put some flowers in the olive oil and heat them for a short period of time? About the only “safe” preparation I found was to make a tea, which I don’t really want to use.

The author and widow of Aldous Huxley has died in Los Angeles, according to family friends. She was 96. She was born in Italy and became a top violinist at a young age. Her friends pick up the story in an obituary they prepared:
In 1948 Laura met Aldous Huxley and then wife, Maria and a wonderful friendship blossomed. In 1956, a year after Maria’s death, Aldous and Laura were married. During that time Aldous wrote Island and Laura wrote You Are Not The Target, which became national bestsellers and huge successes. The “recipes for living and loving” contained in Laura’s fabulous self-help book ask you to imagine attending your own funeral, visualize your favourite flower, jump in another person’s position, dance naked with music In later years she also wrote Let’s Die Healthy, available online for free.
The Huxleys became prominent representatives of the Psychedelic Movement, always advocating the use of psychedelics in a controlled environment and for personal enrichment and always warning against the dangers of the mindless and indiscriminate use of drugs.

Aldous Huxley died on November 22, 1963. Laura wrote about their life together, and Aldous’s death, in the her touching book This Timeless Moment. A favourite quote of Aldous’ words is: “One never loves enough.”
In 1978 she started OUI (Our Ultimate Investment), later to become COUI – Children: Our Ultimate Investment. This Foundation is dedicated to the best development of the “possible human” from before conception to the first years of life, with particular attention given to unwanted teenage pregnancy.

Ayahuasca Paintings and Introduction

I'm a newcomer to Tribe and will be interested in reading the posts and interacting with other like minded people. My experiences with Grandmother offered many opportunities to open up and learn. Another indirect realization came from the incredible living colors I witnessed, which made me realize that what I have been painting for some time, almost twenty years ago, has been these living colors. On another note, there was a two part documentary on Grandmother on CBC Radio One last month that was really amazing. Did anyone else have the opportunity to hear this. I have been trying to find out how to purchase the CD's but there is no info on the website and CBC doesn't respond well at all.

First Time Peyote User - Any Pointers?

I was hoping someone here could enlighten me on an entheogen issue. I've been using other entheogens for spiritual purposes for a while and I'd really like to step it up a bit and try peyote. I've been trying to do research but haven't gotten very far, the one institute that keeps popping up is the Peyote Way in Arizona, and they want $300 for a spirit walk. I've never done it so I don't know for sure, but that seems a bit steep. plus I'm in austin, TX so it's not exactly close. can anyone on this forum tell me if there's a place I could go that's a little closer and a little cheaper? I'd greatly appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction.

what is systems thinking?

Systems thinking is a mental model that promotes the belief that the component parts of a system will act differently when isolated from its environment or other parts of the system, and argues against Descartes's reductionist view. It includes viewing systems in a holistic manner, rather than through purely reductionist techniques. It promotes gaining insights into the whole by understanding the linkages and interactions between the elements that comprise the whole "system", consistent with systems philosophy. System thinking recognizes that all human activity systems are open systems; therefore, they are affected by the environment in which they exist. Systems Thinking recognizes that in complex systems events are separated by distance and time; therefore, small catalytic events can cause large changes in the system. Systems thinking acknowledges that a change in one area of a system can adversely affect another area of the system; thus, it promotes organizational communication at all levels in order to avoid the silo effect.

Systems thinkers consider that:

* a "system" is a dynamic and complex whole, interacting as a structured functional unit
* information flows between the different elements that compose the system
* a system is a community situated within an environment
* information flows from and to the surrounding environment via semi-permeable membranes or boundaries
* systems are often composed of entities seeking equilibrium, but can exhibit oscillating, chaotic, or exponential growth/decay behavior

in a recent essay on transrational perception and biodiversity it was said that cultures that embrace transrational ( which include entheogenic induced states of conciousness) develope whole systems thinking and helps then problems solve and create benifical relationships within a whole system.

i found this extremely interesting due to the fact that before i ever even heard of systems thinking i was talking about it while in well you know certain states...ahem...
can shamanism and animism itself be looked at as systemic thinking and behaviour?

in away isn't shaman ecstasy the act of embodying the intelligence of a whole living system, and acting as its represenative?

Growing Catha Edulis (Khat)- Any experiences?

I have aquired some Khat seeds, and have read that they can be quite difficult to germinate, so would like some tips on favorable germination conditions and further growing tips specifically for high alkaloid (cathine) yeild...
I live in the cold + wet UK, so I will be growing them as houseplants most of the year (they're still legal here....)

2012 short film

Experts have found a way to trigger an out-of-body experience in volunteers.

The experiments, described in the Science journal, offer a scientific explanation for a phenomenon experienced by one in 10 people.

Two teams used virtual reality goggles to con the brain into thinking the body was located elsewhere.

The visual illusion plus the feel of their real bodies being touched made volunteers sense that they had moved outside of their physical bodies.

The researchers say their findings could have practical applications, such as helping take video games to the next level of virtuality so the players feel as if they are actually inside the game.

Clinically, surgeons might also be able to perform operations on patients thousands of miles away by controlling a robotic virtual self.

Teleported

For some, out-of-body experiences or OBEs occurs spontaneously, while for others it is linked to dangerous circumstances, a near-death experience, a dream-like state or use of alcohol or drugs.

One theory is that it is down to how people perceive their own body - those unhappy or less in touch with their body are more likely to have an OBE.

But the two teams, from University College London, UK, and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, believe there is a neurological explanation.

Their work suggests a disconnection between the brain circuits that process visual and touch sensory information may thus be responsible for some OBEs.

In the Swiss experiments, the researchers asked volunteers to stand in front of a camera while wearing video-display goggles.

Through these goggles, the volunteers could see a camera view of their own back - a three-dimensional "virtual own body" that appeared to be standing in front of them.

When the researchers stroked the back of the volunteer with a pen, the volunteer could see their virtual back being stroked either simultaneously or with a time lag.

The volunteers reported that the sensation seemed to be caused by the pen on their virtual back, rather than their real back, making them feel as if the virtual body was their own rather than a hologram.

Volunteers

Even when the camera was switched to film the back of a mannequin being stroked rather than their own back, the volunteers still reported feeling as if the virtual mannequin body was their own.

And when the researchers switched off the goggles, guided the volunteers back a few paces, and then asked them to walk back to where they had been standing, the volunteers overshot the target, returning nearer to the position of their "virtual self".

Dr Henrik Ehrsson, who led the UCL research, used a similar set-up in his tests and found volunteers had a physiological response - increased skin sweating - when they felt their virtual self was being threatened - appearing to be hit with a hammer.

Dr Ehrsson said: "This experiment suggests that the first-person visual perspective is critically important for the in-body experience. In other words, we feel that our self is located where the eyes are."

Dr Susan Blackmore, psychologist and visiting lecturer at the University of the West of England, said: "This has at last brought OBEs into the lab and tested one of the main theories of how they occur.

"Scientists have long suspected that the clue to these extraordinary, and sometimes life-changing, experiences lies in disrupting our normal illusion of being a self behind our eyes, and replacing it with a new viewpoint from above or behind."

In unserem Buch Schamanismus und Tantra in Nepal (Müller-Ebeling,

Claudia, Christian Rätsch und Surendra B. Shahi, 2000 vom Schweizer

AT-Verlag publiziert) merkten wir an, dass sich Schamanismus und

Vegetarismus ausschließen. Da diese Aussage wiederholt heftig diskutiert und in Frage gestellt wurde, sei dazu folgendes ausgeführt.

Für schamanische Gesellschaften ist das gesamte Universum beseelt und

belebt. In ihrer Wertschätzung alles Lebendigen machen sie keinen Unterschied zwischen kosmischen Kräften, Naturelementen, Mineralien,

Pflanzen, Tieren und Menschen. Ihr Denken beruht nicht wie unseres auf einem linearen Dualismus von Gut und Böse, Richtig und Falsch, sondern allein auf der empirischen Beobachtung der Natur, die zyklisch verläuft und "ist"! Mal so, mal so. Ob gut oder böse ist einzig vom relativen Kontext und jeweiligen Standpunkt abhängig.

Im Gegensatz zu uns akzeptieren sie die universale Dynamik von Werden und Vergehen, Geburt und Tod, Krankheit und Gesundheit. Naturvölker erklären die Gesetze der Natur mythologisch; die aufgeklärte westliche Welt wissenschaftlich. Beiden Erklärungsmodellen liegen letztlich dieselben Prinzipien zugrunde und führen zu ähnlichen Schlußfolgerungen. Lediglich die Terminologie ist verschieden.

Schamanische Gesellschaften und Naturvölker beziehen sich auf das

kosmische Prinzip von Geben und Nehmen und gehen selbstverständlich

davon aus, dass jede Form des Lebens in diesen Kreislauf eingebettet und existentiell vom Leben anderer abhängig ist. Jede Lebensform schenkt anderen das Leben, nimmt am ewigen Kreislauf des Lebens teil und ist Teil einer Nahrungskette.

Ob eine Pflanze Licht, Wasser und Mineralstoffe "verschlingt", um

wachsen zu können; ob Tiere sich von Pflanzen oder Fleisch ernähren und ob Menschen pflanzliche oder tierische Nahrung zu sich nehmen macht für schamanische Kulturen und Naturvölker keinen Unterschied. Für sie gilt einzig das Prinzip: Alles lebt und daher bedingen sich Leben und Sterben gegenseitig! Wer nehmen will muß geben! Wer leben will muß töten! Wer sich rein vegetarisch ernährt — ob als Makrobiot, als Laktovegetarier oder Rohköstler — tötet pflanzliches Leben. Wer Fisch

und Fleisch ißt, tötet tierisches Leben. Da sie menschliches Leben nicht

höher bewerten als tierisches, sind sie sich deutlich der Tatsache bewußt, wie sehr sie ihr Leben den Pflanzen (ob kultiviert oder wild),

Haustieren, dem Jagdwild, Vögeln und Fischen verdanken. Diese allgegenwärtige Dankbarkeit manifestiert sich in einer Vielzahl von

Ernte- und Jagdritualen; in unzähligen Opfergaben an Vegetationsgötter

und —göttinnen, an Pflanzenseelen und in rituellen Absprachen mit den

Herren der Tiere, mit denen sie ein ökonomisch verträgliches Gleichgewicht verhandeln.

Aus diesen Gründen ist Naturvölkern und schamanischen Kulturen das

Konzept einer rein vegetarischen Ernährung zutiefst wesensfremd! Selbst wenn Einzelne zu bestimmten Zeiten, Anlässen oder in gewissen

Lebensabschnitten aus rituellen Gründen Diätvorschriften befolgen, die

vor allem den Verzehr von "rotem Fleisch", bestimmten Tieren (und äußerst selten auch von Fisch) verbieten.

Im Kontext unserer westlichen Industriegesellschaften gibt es mannigfaltige triftige Gründe, auf den Genuß von Fleisch zu verzichten.

Weshalb auch immer wir uns als Vegetarier, "Fischköpfe" oder "Fleischfresser" outen obliegt letztlich unserer persönlichen Anschauung und Entscheidung.

Argumente Für und Wider mögen weltanschaulich, ökologisch oder

gesundheitlich gerechtfertigt sein. Romantisch verklärte Verweise auf Naturvölker, die sich angeblich rein vegetarisch ernähren, sind jedoch in diesem Zusammenhang grundsätzlich verfehlt! Wer vegetarische Diätvorschriften in Indien oder Tibet ins Felde führt, verkennt, dass diese historisch auf die Anordnung von Brahmanenpriestern und buddhistischen Mönchen zurückzuführen sind und nicht auf naturgegebene Erfahrungen und Notwendigkeiten.

Frei nach der Devise "jedem Tierchen sein Plaisierchen" mag jede/r persönlichen Diätvorstellungen folgen und andere von missionarischem Eifer verschonen. Vor allem Kulturen, von denen wir keine Ahnung haben.

i need an opinion from the crowd... if you were an upper paleolithic hunter-gatherer type and entheogens formed a normal part of the landscape around you, and they were consumed regularly, (question one) - how would this alter your reality, your self-perception, your consciousness... and please remember, this is a community in which no evidence of violence between humans has been found, so its harmonious, and likely so back into very early humanoid origin times.... Probable mushrooms, possible dmt... an epistemological enquiry.

then suddenly its becoming very very cold... onward ice age.

and then on the other side, the neolithic, when violence against fellow humans was the norm and animals became dominated by them, settling down in communities of stasis rather than motion...

(question two) - does this mean entheogenic drought? I realise thats what McKenna and some other writers decided, but I mean to test the theory....

predose with some omega 3 fatty acids...

this i think could be part of the cause of peoples bad trips... a deficency in tomega three trans fatty acid.
i posted this on the ayahausca tribe...

one thing i want to add is the little fruit eating fish that only seems to live in the amazon that frequently eaten in the deita.. it would be good to eat some fish... maybe salmon... fish have omega 3 fatty acids in them. the brain cannot produce it on its own so it needs to come from your diet. omega 3 fatty acids help prevent feelings of fear, anxiety, panic, depression, and helps one not be so overwhelmed by stress.
ive seen people panic, freak out... black out... and not be able to work with the lessons the medicine is teaching them... and i wonder how much of this is because some one thinks the dieta is about raw food dieting... or being vegan... at any rate... either eating fish or takeieng an omega three fatty acid supllement is important so that you can deal with the psycho/spiritual stressors that ayahuasca introduces you to. if you body has what it needs to work with the stress of seeing your dead grandmother or the sensation of your head going inside out and then just popping off your shoulders... then your going to leanr alot... if it doesnt have what it needs your going to freak the fuck out...
and thats just a body response...
so eat fish on your dieta or take a supplement... its traditional and it makes a hell of a lots of sense.

Today I will say a few words on Permaculture and forward notice of a Permaculture course to be given in October.

Permaculture is a neologism which stands for Permanent Culture. It is at the heart and soul of bioregionalist theory and practice, up to and including the Green Party Movements worldwide. ( Bioregionalist in turn meaning watershed politics, as in Biological Regionalism. )

I am not a permaculture teacher and I do not know the people giving this course. I am a former regional class Green Party organizer and have taken basic permaculture training on the West Coast, and I have the Mollison book and have given an Earth Day feature presentation talk on alternative green medicine.

Today I am passing this information on to you in the hopes that it will help you and inspire some to take a deeper and broader look at this type of work. It's much much more than just gardening and landscape design. It is a way to start healing the planet.

"Over the years, there have been sporadic reports about the Chinese Herb Bai ji li (Tribulus terrestris) as a psychoactive betacarboline source. I acquired Bai ji li from kalyx.com (shamanshop) and found it completely inactive, and dismissed the rumor as bunk. However, recently, I received a sample from a Chinese Herbalist supplier and decided to try it again.

I was surprised to find that what Kalyx.com had sent me didn't taste or even smell like what I was sent by Dr. Kang. I sent a sample to Dr. Kang of the stuff from kalyx, and he reported back that it was actually a lb. of Astragalus, so no wonder it was inactive.

On the other hand, 1 tablespoon of Dr. Kang's Bai ji li thorns, freshly ground by me in my own grinder on my end, was an experience comparable to the B. caapi vine. This Chinese cousin of the Middle-Eastern Syrian rue not only tastes mild and pleasant, but reaches out to embrace as beautifully as the vine.

Excellent medicine from our Chinese cousins.

Not many. Shamanshop's product was not correct, but Dr. Kang's Formulas offers the highest quality fresh-dried Chinese herbs in the U.S.A. Dr. Kang is in California.

I haven't tried with the light yet, but by itself, the results are unmistakably vine-like.

Preparation couldn't be faster or simpler. 1-2 tablespoons ground material in 100ml phosphoric acid solution, boiled in the microwave in pyrex measuring cup for 5 minutes. Strain. Done. Add some sugar and optionally milk to taste.

CAUTION: REMEMBER, I HAVE NOT YET TRIED THIS WITH THE LIGHT, SO TREAD CAUTIOSLY. THIS COMBINATION HAS ONLY BEEN RUMORED!

Claudio Naranjo

Visionary anthropologist and psychiatrist Claudio Naranjo pioneered the clinical use of "feeling enhancers". Dr Naranjo has conducted MDA- and MDMA-assisted therapy both on a one-to-one basis and in group therapy sessions.

"The MDMA experience is something like artificial sanity, a temporary anesthesia of the neurotic self. I mostly use MDMA as an "opener" at some point in psychotherapy, not only for the wealth of the material gained during the session but for how it facilitates therapeutic work in the aftermath."

Dr Naranjo suggests that the ideal feeling-enhancer will "elicit an expansion of emotional awareness without interfering with thinking". Given the mood-congruence of thought, this aspiration may in the end prove unattainable. But the development of safer "soul medicines" to deepen and optimise our emotional repertoire promises to enrich human life in decades to come.

Chilean-born Dr Naranjo first met psychedelic chemist Sasha Shulgin in 1962. It was Dr Shulgin who introduced Dr Naranjo to the substituted phenylisopropylamines - just before the young researcher set off to the Amazon to study his first soul-medicine ayahuasca.

Dr Naranjo went on to use MDA-assisted therapy in his private clinical practice in the 1960s. [See also Naranjo, C., A. T. Shulgin, and T. Sargent. 1967. Evaluation of 3,4-methylenedioxyamphetamine (MDA) as an adjunct to psychotherapy. Med. Pharmacol. Exp. 17: 359-364. 53] Dr Naranjo found that MDA was especially valuable as a "drug of analysis". MDA tends to promote the extraordinarily vivid recall of formative emotional experiences. In common with MDMA, MDA unlocks long-repressed childhood memories; its sensitive use can induce spontaneous age regression. Whereas on LSD, the recollection of negative experiences may precipitate a "bad trip", on MDA [and especially on its N-methyl analogue MDMA] even the most traumatic of childhood experiences can be calmly recalled. Normally painful memories can be accepted and "reformulated" without fear. At its best, MDA promotes exceptional self-honesty, openness and a sense of heightened authenticity. MDA also promotes a deep, non-possessive kind of love. "Unfinished business" in relationships can be resolved. In the right setting and with an experienced professional guide, a MDA-assisted session can have a hugely positive outcome of in the estimate of client and therapist alike.

But here we enter a methodological minefield. Critics of drug-assisted psychotherapy point to the absence of controlled clinical trials to validate claims of therapeutic success. Such critics also oppose steps to set up such trials on the grounds that there isn't enough scientific evidence to warrant conducting them.

Unlike the outlandish effects of major tryptamine psychedelics such as LSD or DMT, MDA-catalysed insights can potentially be integrated into the rest of one's life. Ideally, the therapeutic gain will be sustainable, whether wholly or in part. The neurological basis of any such healing process is currently unknown. Dr Naranjo discusses the use of MDA-like "feeling enhancers" and LSD-like "fantasy enhancers" as therapeutic catalysts in The Healing Journey (Pantheon Books, 1973).

Dr Naranjo's therapeutic use of MDA prefigured the development of MDMA-assisted therapy in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Dr Naranjo describes MDMA [Ecstasy] as the "champagne of feeling enhancers". Certainly the quality of thought and feeling characteristic of MDMA-induced states has a "cleaner", more lucid texture than its MDA-induced counterpart. MDA-induced states tend to have stronger psychedelic or mystical overtones. They may also carry a heavier hint of amphetamine-like stimulation. Media hype aside, MDMA has a better safety profile than MDA. Even so, over-indulgence in MDMA or MDA - or excess consumption of both by users of street pharmaceuticals - can exacerbate the common mental health problems that prompted their reckless overuse in the first instance. On the other hand, perhaps it will one day be accounted reckless, irresponsible or antisocial not to take a regimen of their better-designed successors. At present this prospect seems implausible; the Ritalin Kid might beg to differ.

Dr Naranjo argues that the acute risks of professionally conducted MDMA-assisted therapy are small; and the therapeutic breakthroughs sometimes profound...

"Since the effect of MDMA can be a peak experience or a delving into pain (or both), it is easy to see how it is possible that some persons find themselves in the garden of earthly paradise while others undergo the fires of purification - and the experience of the former is a gift to the latter."

Dr Naranjo contends...

"What is needed now is not training but true expertise; the training of specialists who can use such psychotropic substances wisely and skillfully".

In his text for Dr Holland's illuminating Ecstasy manual, Dr Naranjo observes that the feeling-enhancers open up "...a spontaneous willingness to keep the flame of love alive in the face of pain". Dr Naranjo argues that "the gate to happiness... lies in finding another attitude toward pain". On pain itself, Dr Naranjo states: "Suffering is inextricably bound to earthly existence".

This may still be so; but the unfolding biotechnology revolution will shortly make suffering optional - and just conceivably obsolete. In the still-speculative post-Darwinian era of paradise engineering, an entire lifetime of E-like states is technically feasible. A minority of contemporary ethicists would further argue that such E-like states are ideologically desirable too. Whether drug-driven or genetically preordained, mental superhealth can take many guises, ecstatic or otherwise. Utopian Pharmacology explores just one of them. On this scenario, lifelong states of empathetic bliss can become the default-setting of everyday waking consciousness.

while in urubamba i was dealing with a large number of shisty taxi drivers who were competeing for my money when a nice blond woman came up to me and my girl freind and asked us if we wanted to share a cab to cuzco. we said sure! and low and behold it was lesly the owner of mandelas bar, casa de la gringa 1, 2, and another planet tour guide who specialized in sanpedro journeis. she had just left a ceremony with her teacher and still had sanpedro working through her. we talked about healing and shamanism the whole ride to cuzco and how achuma from bolivia is the strongest in sweet SA... she hooked us up with a reservation for two nights at her hostal... which is very nice and full of sanpedro, and ivited us to a party she was havieng at her night club.
it was a real pleasure to meet lesly. and i would like to recomend that if your seeking a sanpedro experince in peru andd are in cuzco to look her up. shes been working with sanpedro for a long time while studying under a traditional maestro who works with a traditional mesa.

pisac curandero

so in our last day in the sacred vally i met a really great guy in pisac. i was walking into the main market there ( the big famous pisac market) and he is on the side with its back to the river. i noticed for the first time in peru... i HUGE selection of chonta staves! all kinds of them as well as palo santo stacked like fire wood and some seriously nice mesa objects. then i met Otorongo. very nice and humble man, kind and generous, all qualities i look for in a good chaman. he speaks only spanish really and i got a really great feeling about him. at any rate i bought some palos from him and he blessed them really well. then i came back and we talked some more and i decided i would like to promote him here as some one to look for when your in peru, as well if your looking for some great stuff for your mesa, he blessed a peacock feather when i told him that i work peacock feathers. he had a flower sort of seguero. a bottle full of flowers he would fill with agua de florida and then spray on the feather. it was very charged and moved on its own accord quite nicely. very powerfull. he also gifted me and my lady friend with a minature corn for abundance and some palo santo.
he also sells sanpedro at his shop. the dry skin powdered.
at any rate he and i got along quite nicely and i got a very good feeling for him. better then any other i had met in the andes so i told him i would promote him on the tribe.
he takes people up to the local pisac ruins... which is a very special place. with buirial grounds and like machu picchu it has a sun and moon temple as well as a very special series of fountians as well as a bath especialy for cleanseings. Otorongo seems very focused on cleansing and takes people to the ruins and the mountians to get clean and empowered. i have not worked with him in ceremony, but i i would work with him when i go back. hes a good guy, and i am very picky!

What are your pre-ritual rituals? I don't know who all is comfortable or open about sharing this part, but this is something that not many people seem to talk about in detail, but something that is always refered to obliquely as extremely important.

About a day out, I start watching very carefully what I eat and make sure to get plenty of sleep the night before if it's going to be a night-time event (incase I can's sleep for a 24 hour stretch afterwards). I eat somewhat more spartan meals, mostly consisting of starches, like rice and beans (trying to avoid tinned foods or pre-prepared things. One thing that I haven't done but was mentioned just recently was to avoid spices and eat extremely bland food for a day or two ahead of time. I'm not sure what this does, but I almost always cook spicy, so it'd be an interisting experiment.
Day of, I try to do everything with purpose. No waking up grumpy, or abort the mission. No coffee, shouldn't need it. Tea if I feel like it, but something light, like Jasmine or ban-cha. Avoid prepared or oldish food *tryamines* in general and espically known tryamine offenders. I'm not sure exactly what the repurcussions are with those and normal entheogens (as in non-maois), but it seems prudent.

these people are great and they are doing great work. dragon mill farm is a bioregional animist entheogen freindly community in gerrmany. the work they are doing there is amazing and beautifull. they need help from people commited to being one with the land and with the spirit. there events and projects as well as workshops are incredible, and chirstian and his family are really amazing peopel with great vison.
their farm is near many sacred prechristian german sites and thier place is very special and magical.

Ayahuascha del Norte. Curandisimo y Vegatalisimo in the PNW

I start out by saying that this will not set well with "purists", however the vine sings songs of salmon and elk if done well and the spirit plants of the area are used with honor as allies and introduced to the vine with respect.
For this brew I use
1kg yellow vine
30g Peganum ground
1 blossom Toe` (which has acclimatized to this area for 35yrs)
100g dry canary grass
a small handfull of dry elderberry (Mother Elder loves the Vine as lovers reunited)
50g fresh reishi
this is boiled together for 12 hrs and strained then with fresh water boiled again for 12hrs and strained, water added as needed to keep the solids covered.
The strained liquids are boiled to 1/3 volume, filter well and refrigerate for 24-48 hrs.
The liquid is then carefully decanted from the solid layer which forms at the bottom of the jar.
You should have a reddish golden clear liquid at this point.
reheat to just below boiling and add 100g dry Ps. cyanescens, semillanceata, or azurescens and steep for 30 minutes.
filter through fine cloth and squeeze all the liquid from the fungus powder.
Divide into 25-30 "cups"
This is a powerful drink and it will carry the spirit to new lands and visions of the region will fill the senses. Lessons of the northern rainforest come freely and the vine speaks clearly of it's desire to heal. The ayahuaschero should have practiced with this brew before using it in ceremony, it is not Ayahuascha, it is Ayahuascha del Norte and sings a different song than it's southern brother. When it's Icaros come to you you will hear their new song.

A KAVA Ceremony in Tonga

[The writings of W. H. R. Rivers and others have raised the kava complex to a position of theoretical importance in the study of Polynesian ethnology. The following very detailed account of the ceremonial preparation of kava in the Tongan Group is, therefore, of great interest. Such a ceremonial as is here recorded is now rare in those islands, and many members of modern kava parties scarcely know the right positions to take up, much less the details of the ceremonial.---EDITOR. ]

The ceremonial way of making kava is called milolua, a word that is also employed to describe one method of straining, or "clearing" the kava. The fact that on two occasions the full ceremony was carried through for my benefit was due to the circumstance that I was the guest of the Rev. J. B. Watkin, who, for fifty-six years has laboured as a missionary in the Friendly Islands, and won the fullest confidence and love of the Tongan people.

On the morning of Thursday August 17th, 1922, accompanied by my host and the Native minister from Neiafu, the Rev. Paula Fonua, I set out from Neiafu, the Capital of Vavau, for the village of Haalaufuli, some eight miles distant. Some two miles before reaching Haalaufuli we were met by a small cavalcade, and the horsemen escorted us to the village. Here we were received at the Mission House, and, having seated ourselves on the lotoa, or verandah a dried kava root was laid at our feet, and a small offering of food was presented to us for some visitors who had followed us from Neiufu. This over, Mr. Watkin and I stepped into the Mission House and sat at a table laden with roast chicken, boiled chicken, curried chicken, fried chicken, roast sucking pig, and a profusion of fruit, vegetables and other good things. The only detail that I need mention is that we began the meal with a drink of hot coconut milk, that was served in cups made from folded banana leaf, a beverage that is heated in the umu, or oven of hot stones, and which when poured into the green banana-leaf cup extracts from the cup some essential properties which produce a delightfully cool sensation in mouth and throat.

The meal over, we again repaired to the lotoa to be garlanded with exquisitely made floral sisi, to hear words of welcome, to hold a levee and to receive the customary gifts. There were two presentations. The first was a koloa, or presentation of goods, which included native mats, tapa cloth, coconut oil, necklaces made of hano, lopa and sialemohemohe seeds, and also a few fans. The second was a kaitunu or food presentation. Included in this latter were six great green kava roots, nine roast pigs borne on pola or litters, scores of baskets of fruit and vegetables, bunches of the prized taokave or chiefly coconuts, many fowls, and a quantity of ai nuts, not unlike almonds, that were both in baskets and threaded on the stripped ribs of fronds of the coconut palm. The gifts in the second presentation were arranged in orderly rows on the malae. These were duly counted by representatives of the villages, who seated themselves behind the company and announced the number of each sort of gift. The food was then removed from the malae, or assembly ground, saving that five roast pigs were placed in order in front of the lotoa. Behind these pigs a party of natives seated themselves with crossed legs, beneath the shade of an ovava tree, the sacred tree of Tonga. The chiefs and some distinguished folks were ranged at the feet of Mr. Watkin and myself on the lotoa, we two alone being accommodated with chairs.

In the centre of the group on the malae a woven mat was placed over a plaited coconut pola. On either side of the mat sat two men, called hagai kava, facing the lotoa. Beside each was a large, smooth volcanic stone, and in the right hand of each a smaller volcanic stone. These stones, valuable for their hardness, are brought from tile island of Tofua. A green kava root was produced, the upper shoots, resembling bamboo sticks, were discarded, and the root itself was scraped and rubbed clean, and then passed to the hagai kava. Ordinarily the dried and not the green kava root is used for making the beverage. Next a native advanced bearing a kumete kava or kava bowl, set on four short legs. Before being put in position between the hagai kava, it was turned to the guests of honor, with the legs and bottom facing us. The hagai kava quickly pounded the root with the hard volcanic stones, the crushed pieces falling upon the mat. When the crushing was complete the broken fragments were put in the kumete kava, behind which a handsome woman, the gaahi kava, or kava maker now seated herself. In more ancient days the practice was for the crushed root to be distributed amongst the young folks who possessed the whitest teeth, and who when they had masticated the chips discharged the contents of their mouths on to a plantain leaf whence it was transferred to the kava bowl. This unhygenic method is now discarded.

The gaahi kava with graceful sweeps and curves of arms and hands and body, all movements of symbolic import, began to mix the root and to extract its essence, the while the two hagai kava simultaneously poured water slowly from two buckets into the bowl. When she had made the liquor of sufficient strength, a strainer, which was simply a bunch of fibre or fau, was brought and spread by the gaahi kava on top of the "brew." In this strainer the kava maker, with graceful movements, carefully gathered the "chips" out of the liquor, winding the fibre around them and wringing from it the last drops of fluid, as she did so gradually raising the strainer until it was stretched like a rope above her head. Holding it there for a few moments she suddenly, and quick as a flash, without so much a glance backward, flung the mass into the lap of a man behind, and, exhausted by her strenous exercises, brought her arms to rest, with hands outstretched and palms uppermost on the outer edge of the kumete kava. The man who received the bunch of strainings, at once shook them out on a mat in front of him and began dividing the fau into two parts.

At the same moment a party of men advanced and with ceremonial dignity bore away the five roast pigs that had been left between us and the kava makers. The division of the fau being completed one part was returned to the gaahi kava, who, with pretty movements gathered into it any dregs or fibrous particles that still remained in the liquor. When the fluid was "cleared" the strainer was exchanged for the rest of the fau. This was placed in a bunch on the front lip of the bowl, and then, announcing that the kava was ready, the woman brought her arms once again with open, upturned palms to rest on the outer lips of the bowl.

Three cup-bearers, called fakatau kava, now stepped forward, each holding an eibu or cup, fashioned from a coconut shell. The master of ceremonies, who was close to me on the lotoa, and who is called the tufa kava, gave orders to proceed. One of the cup-bearers advanced to the gaahi kava and she saturated the fau with the liquor and squeezed a cupful the eibu. The bearer advanced some seven paces and stood still, facing the guests of honour. One of the party called the ui kava, or crier, "intoned" with a very prolonged note on the last syllable but one, the announcement "Kava kua heka," indicating in this way that the cup was filled. The tufa kava named the person to whom it was to be presented. This person at once intimated to the cup-bearer that he was the individual named, by clapping the hands together once and saying the word "koau," which is simply the first personal pronoun. The bearer, holding the eibu in both hands, advanced with stately step, and with ceremonious politeness presented the cup, holding it as low as he could, in token of respect. The person honoured took tile eibu in both hands and quaffed its contents, or if he preferred, merely sampled the kava, and then returned the cup.

Cup-bearer number two then had his eibu filled by the gaahi kava squeezing the saturated fau. He advanced, as had his predecessor, a few paces and stood still awaiting a command. The ui kava intoned his announcement that the eibu was filled, the tufa kava called a name, the hand-clapping and drinking followed, and so the ceremony proceeded until some forty persons had been honoured and the kava was exhausted. The gaahi kava wiped the bowl clean with her bunch of fau and again brought her arms to rest on either side edge of the bowl. A member of the party now advanced, lifted the bowl, and holding its inner surface towards the guests of honour, slapped it on its under side and bore it from the scene. The whole kava ceremony thus described in detail, occupied less than forty minutes, and was followed by a dinner from the food that had ceremonially been presented to me.

After the dinner the whole company marched in procession to the bountiful Free Church building. Here some seven choirs, drawn from the five villages of Haalaufuli, Hologa, Houma, Taanea and Magia united in a hiva, or song service. Fourteen anthems were rendered, two by each choir. The singing was a revelation, and was without any instrumental accompaniment, and without the aid of the printed score, or any printed word. Most of the selections were by native composers, and these showed considerable merit. Two selections however, were quite familiar. They were the "Hallelujah Chorus" from Handel's "Messiah," and "Glorious is Thy Name."

One of the chiefs present at these celebrations was a Native doctor Mr. George Kubu, who is uncle of Queen Salote, and a brother of the late Queen Lavinia, of Tonga. Two days later I visited his village of Hologa, and he, having noted my interest in the milolua, or kava ceremony, had arranged for its repetition in my honour. At this second ceremony which was preceded by the singing of an ode of welcome, that had been originally composed and sung to welcome to Hologa, the late King George Tubou II several years ago, the whole party was seated under a balebale nofoaga, or shelter, that had been temporarily erected on the malue. The ceremony was the introduction to a feast, and it differed from the previous milolua in the fact that the kava maker was a man, and the cup-bearers were women. On numerous occasions I saw kava made with as little ceremony and as much haste as possible, and count myself favoured to have witnessed a ceremony that few are now privileged to see.

Hell-Low from Heaven-High; I am author/publisher of "MANNA" the book documenting the
BIBLICAL use of MAGIC-MUSHROOMS.
“Manna” Explores the evidence that Christ was the leader of a Pagan Cult teaching a revival/renaissance of an ancient mushroom ritual learned in Egypt by Moses and Christ, a mushroom religion known also to the Maya of ancient Mesoamerica, and around the world. The Manna-Book asks if this knowledge was kept secret by an elite caste of priests within the Kabalistic Jewish Rabbis until such a time as Christ came and taught it to the masses.

Exodus 16:14-24 indicates that MANNA was inevitably a MUSHROOM.
It was a small round thing in the morning dew, it bred larva, and would melt to mush if not dried. KING JAMES VERSION.
All mushroom pickers know that fly’s eggs cause larvae/worms in mushrooms. The one food most notorious for being full of worms.

Daniel 5:3-5 with Exodus 16:32 and Hebrews 9:4
indicates that the mushroom was a DRUG. After sacking the temple in Jerusalem and stealing the Ark-of-the-Covenant, the King of Babylon and his table drank from the golden cup containing the holy “MANNA” they had visions within the hour….. Psilocybin takes 30-40 minutes to induce visions.

Hebrews 9:4 makes it clear that MANNA was the most holy thing to Israelites, kept in A POT OF GOLD in the ARK OF THE COVENANT, in the MOST HOLY OF HOLYS. So sacred is the Manna that only the High Priest has access to it and only on one day of the year (Yom Kippur), which comes 3 days before the harvest moon (Hallows Eve).

Psalm 78:24-25 calls MANNA FOOD OF ANGELS, just as MAYAN/INCA PRIESTS from Meso-America called it TEONANACATL FOOD OF THE GODS.
MANNA is an Egyptian word, not Hebrew or Aramaic, meaning;
The BREAD OF GOD. This is what Moses called it in Exodus 16:15.
“Bread Of God” means “FOOD OF GOD”, which is the same meaning of TEONANACATL (Mayan), and AMBROSIA (Greek), and SOMA (Hindu) a word for mushroom tea, all these words mean “Spiritual Food”.
Coca and Tobacco Leaves found in Pharaohs tombs suggest it was ancestors of Mayan/Inca Priests who brought MUSHROOMS to Egypt.

John 2:6-9 indicates that Jesus made water into wine by boiling mushrooms (Mushroom-Tea), the waterpots were made of stone, not clay, (stone pots were used for cooking, clay pots used for storing water). These pots already contained 2-3 firkins of a substance before the pots were filled with water.
A “Firkin” is an Old-English measurement meaning a fourth part. Half to three-quarters of fresh mushrooms with water makes a potent tea. Tea is the safest way to consume field mushrooms, killing dangerous bacteria like E. Coli. In the Atharva Veda, the Hindus called this Tea SOMA. Greeks called mushroom jelly AMBROSIA.
Those who drank the water made into wine said it was the most potent intoxicant (St. John 2:10). The Bible tells us that Jesus making water into wine was the “beginning of miracles” … in other words no one saw any miracles until drinking the wine made from water. (St. John 2:11).

“MANA” is an EGYPTIAN WORD, not HEBREW or ARAMAIC, Meaning; “The BREAD OF GOD”. Moses, Christ, and Joseph, The favorite son of Israel, were all educated in Egypt. Solomon married Pharaoh’s daughter, and Abraham found his God at a place called SHECHEM (Sekhem), which is another Egyptian word for MANNA. TEONANACATL [Maya] = SOMA [Hindu] = AMBROSIA / BROMA-THEON [Greek] = MANNA [Egyptian/Hindu] It can be no coincidence that the MAYAN, EGYPTIAN, GREEK, HINDU, and ISRAELITE words for the mushroom all mean exactly the same thing: “THE BREAD OF GOD”.

MANNA was round, was found on the ground in the dew, would melt to mush if not dried or collected on time, and would breed larvae. All unique characteristics of mushrooms. When dried it was like “WAFERS OF BREAD” and it’s color was like “CORIANDER SEED”, the consistency and color of dried mushrooms, as described in Exodus Ch. 16.
Other psychedelics used in the Bible include, of course, Cannabis, Mandrake and others. This book focuses on Mushrooms: “The Global Sacrament”.
Be advised that the author does not advocate the non-ritual use of mushrooms or in any way place their importance above that of love, “Seek first the kingdom of love and all other things shall be added to you” [Christ].

Attached is a short explanation of the talking points i plan on covering during my presentation at the Forum on Entheogens i will hold at UH-Manoa in mid-January. Any feedback is appreciated, as i wish to fine-tune the points before January. In fact, we
need to pin down a date on this--I would like the afternoon of Friday, Jan. 12th, or anytime on Sat. Jan 13th. Thoughts??

Other parts of the forum i would like to see are 'awa ceremonies (opening, closing, or both), as well as a group listen to a speech given by Terence McKenna at the Entheobotany Conference in Palenque in 1999. He engagingly covers many of the same points and conclusions that my egoic mind had almost convinced me I had come up with INDEPENDENTLY. Funny how that works.... 8^0

Recommendations, volunteers for the event, and other input is welcome.

Entheogen Forum Presentation Talking points

Hawaiian use of entheogens

Pre-contact Hawaiians used specific plants that enabled them to access altered states of consciousness. It was knowledge gained through these entheogenic experiences that led to certain cultural aspects: the Kumulipo, chanting, drumming, strict regulation dealing with genders, and a balance with nature. Their knowledge of the cosmos, used for navigation, was also likely gained in this manner. Their sacred and complex religious rituals, which very little is known about, involved ingestion of entheogens.

Historical context

A similar scene has been reenacted throughout history, in which an indigenous culture employed entheogenic plants, only to have these practices outlawed when confronted with outsiders from a different, often Western, paradigm. Some examples of this is the use of the LSD-like kykeon potion of the Eleusinian Mysteries in ancient Greece, the use of psilocybin mushrooms and morning-glory seeds by the Mazatec, the “witch hunts” in Europe and north America, the use of ayahuasca by Amazonian tribes, etc, etc. (See Schultes and Hoffman’s Plants of the Gods). In all of these cases, attempts were made to eliminate the practice of Shamanism with entheogens. This struggle continues today.
In many cases, anthropologists and ethnobotanists have been able to put the pieces together in order to sufficiently conclude that these substances were indeed used. The correct identification of the Amanita muscaria mushroom as the god Soma of ancient Hindu texts is a good example.
In these cases, these conclusions could be made because of the existence of persistent language (written texts). In the case of Hawaii, however, the lack of written documentation of these practices has allowed for their easy annihilation by armed newcomers, and their consequent elusiveness. When outsiders arrived in Hawaii in 1778, one of the first tasks was to eliminate the “pagan” rituals of the natives. These outlawed rituals included surfing, hula, oli, ‘awa drinking, and others. Are we to believe that the rituals involving entheogens would not also have been outlawed?

Possibilities
‘Awa
“Awa was used by the Hawaiian in many ways and many varieties developed. Several of these have unquestionably been lost. It is likely that some of these varieties and ways in which they were used facilitated such a strong psychoactive effect as to be considered psychedelic/entheogenic. This may have involved direct mastication of the root in order to ingest higher amounts of the alkaloid.

Pohuehue
The beach morning glory pohuehue is an extremely prominent plant along Hawaii’s coastline. The seeds of this plant contain a lysergic acid amide LSA, similar in its psychoactive effect to LSD. In order to access entheogenic states, it is necessary to ingest only 4-6 seeds of most morning glories. The Hawaiians, documented experts in all things botanical, would surely have known this. I propose that the Hawaiian used to employ the psychoactive effects of this plant. In order to reduce nausea while employing morning glory seeds, many cultures create an infusion using the seeds, as LSA is water-soluble. I think it is likely that the morning glory was been used in combination with ‘awa in this manner.

Mushrooms
Native psilocybin- or psilocin-containing mushrooms would surely have been used by the Hawaiians. Because of the relative abundance and ease of use, this would likely have been the most common entheogen used, perhaps even accessible to a large part of the Hawaiian population, although it is extremely likely a kapu would have existed around it use.

DMT
One of the main DMT sources for the ayahuasca tea in the Amazon is the chacruna plant, Psychotria viridis. There are five endemic Psychotria species in Hawai’i. It is possible that these could have been employed as a snuff in order to access the DMT realm, as is done by the Yanamomo and many other South American tribes.. When DMT is ingested with an MAO-I (i.e. ayahuasca), it is possible to take these plants orally in order to have an entheogenic experience. There are certainly many native MAO- inhibiting plants in Hawaii. Could an ayahuasca analogue have been used in ancient Hawai’i? The verification of this requires further study.

Anything IS possible.

Very little is known about the nature of reality or matter. At certain times, events that may seem “impossible” to our rational mind based on our limited ability to perceive the entirety of reality, do in fact occur. The fabric of our world as we perceive it, breaks down. The veil between the possible and impossible, the rational and irrational, is thin. We sometimes refer to these events as “miracles”. Scientific practitioners have begun documenting and using these events to develop a new science, Quantum Theory.
(“Jigga-What?? A thing can’t be in two places at the same time! That’s impossible!”)

Entheogens allow users to perceive, and may perhaps have the ability to effect, these miraculous events. Interviews conducted by myself and Peter Miller through the Psychoactive Biotechnology Project (see www.psychoactiveknowledge.org) show that these experiences are shared by many. I personally have experienced a breakdown of the rational world and experienced “miracles”, both in and out of entheogenic intoxication. I have publicly expressed some of these in previous emails.
Others I have shared with no one, as if I would even know where to begin.

There are other discussion points I am still working on.

Now that I've had numerous precognitive dreams I'll work to see whether I can become more precognitive, only with thoughts.

Thursday trees, something triggered thoughts of trees. Later Thursday, reading the news as usual, I skimmed an article about Rocky Mountain aspen trees. The aspens are dying at a rate that's worrying some people and in several areas there are fewer suckers, or baby trees, and scientists are working to understand. I just realized what one of the triggers was. Early in the week an announcement had been made, the planet's potentially tallest tree had been seen in California. Interesting, as I've worked with precognition I'm very slowly learning how it works. Sometimes it's only a pair of events that are precognitive, a dream and an event in the news or something a bit more simple. On other occasions there are several interlinked events. It's not that complex but it's difficult to explain why I believe I need to understand precognition. The 29 synchronicity is certainly a driving force. As a possible cap to my trees precognition experience, yesterday, Friday, the first complete genetic sequence of a tree -- a poplar -- was published in the journal Science. Oh, and what the devil is this? Retrieving the Science article from my email I skimmed a yahoo headline about "Earth's tallest people". Naturally right now I'm seeing TREES. It's the Dutch apparently, they feed em well over there.

So that's my circle of precognition. Once I have enough circles I'll reveal a more precise definition of precogniton.

Okay, what did I smoke?

I was at Burning Man. I was hanging at camp Templewhore when some dude passed me what I thought was pot. It may very well have been pot...and just a stronger variety than I've ever smoked. I took two hits. Two. And I was seriously fucked up.

I got really lost trying to get back to camp...and I thought I was going to be wandering around forever. My perceptions of time were completely screwed up. I felt like I'd been walking for hours, when I'd only been walking for about fifteen minutes. I don't know how to explain the sensation that freaked me out. The best I can do to describe it is to say that every moment felt like a separate dream, and in every moment, I was waking up again, realizing it was a dream, and then going through it again. I had no idea what was "real". I didn't believe in anything I saw. I saw people on the playa riding their bikes and wearing their costumes, and I had no idea if they existed in or outside of my mind. This was all happening way to fast for me to handle. I'd pass from one moment to the next, and wake up from the dream, and feel like hours had gone by...because I'd been "asleep". I was terrified of how much time I was spending asleep, and wondering what I had been doing while I was sleeping...possibly walking around and making an idiot of myself. I was okay after about an hour, when my camp settled down to do our daily polyamory discussion. Listening to people just talk about their lives and relationships seemed to calm me down, since it felt so normal. I think I would have enjoyed this experience and gotten more out of it if I wasn't so afraid of people noticing how fucked up I was, and thinking I was an idiot. Of course, it was Burning Man, so I don't know why I was all worried about being judged for taking two hits of pot.

But was it just pot?

I don't have a lot of experience with psychedelics. I do smoke pot pretty regularly, about once a week. I've been to plenty of parties where people were passing around a bowl, and took a lot more than two hits...and I've never run into anything like this.

despacho -burnt offerings

i am curious if people do burnt offerings, despachos? and how they feel about them and any general comments.
recently i read a book(i cant remember the title will look it up when i get home currently at work)
anyway it sparked an interest in the despacho. i finished the book and but the whole idea in the back of my mind.
just the other day we have been experiencing some crappy things in my family liek the car breaking down, just after gettign fixed. my kids being sick for something like 5 weeks alwasy getting sick after getting better, my wife was weeding the front garden and thinks she may have been pricked by a used needle (we cant find any entry point and no blood on her hadn but she felt a prick but that coudl have been a weed and she saw the needle and though it coudl be that too. very fucked up in my mind that peple cant dispose of thier rubbuhs thoughtfully) this last event made us very upset and i felt we needed some sort of protection, and rebalancing of our energies.
then suddenly the idea of the despacho popped into my head.
so i set about focusing upon intent and made a despacho to protect my wife and 2 kids plus myself. and also sought after a rebalancing of our family energy.
the whole process was a great success i think and i foud the ritual to be very enjoyable and rewrading, the despacho burnt well and i created a great space with the help of our little friends, cubensis.
anyway be keen to hear any comments

Brewing aya with el maestro

I recently had the honor of helping Senor Miguel Kavlin in preparing a brew ,his first time brewing in the US. It became necessary when the package of Aya and Achuma did not arrive during the long dance and aya workshop recently held.
When it became obvious we were without I was luckily prepared with some vine and light (in the form of jurema preta) as well as some yellow Toe` Another participant provided some rather old PV. The day had progressed until at about 2-3pm Miguel decided to begin the brew. First I gave him all the info on Jurema preta I have Aand he told me to prepare the Jurema as an addition to his own recipe of 1:1 vine/light (caapi/viridis). Not wanting the first jurema he used to be a knock out dose I chose to add only 4g /person to the already light loaded brew. Now here is where I think he may have not been entirely succesful. We brewed in near Ph7 spring water and due to the late start the brew could only boil for a few hrs. I mentioned to Miguel that the adding of several limes juice would acidify the mix much more like the water of the amazon basin (Ph 4.5-6) and expedite the extraction he however did not use any acidifying agent other than the plant acids in the brew.
The mix was boiled down but not for the necessary 12-24 hrs more like max of five. It was at this point I had to leave for a previous appointment.
This is the impression of some of those who drank that night;
The night before's session had some heavy moments with some folks having stong reactions and others completely being ovvercome by the spirit of the aya till Miguel needed to directly intervene while Mazza held the person down during a semi-siezural response to psychic perturbations. Another attended with his wfe who had a unexpected dose resistance and left during ceremony in a negative emotional space(disappointment ,anger) thiscaused her spouse to have a flight reaction and some time was spent finding him in the woods.
This is the stage for the brew we just made. As I expected due to the fact I only had a Kg of vine on hand and the PV old and the Jurema dosage set very low, coupled with the abreviated on-acidified brew that effects would be mild, good for following a big previous night. Most reported mild introspective effects whiched helped integrate the big ride the previous night.
In retrospect I am very pleased with getting any response considering the number of people we stretched a Kg of vine among(30+) I also am very pleased to have had a 500g package of Jurema Preta to gift Miguel to work with on his own.
In closing I must say the honor of brewing along side a great shaman such as Miguel is an experience I am not sure one would have even in the jungle. I am profoundly changed by the whole process and have made a powerful friend and ally in this man of spirit. His gift of ceremonial tobacco and warm, loving wishes let me know I had performed well as his assistant, A huge moment for a vegetalismo (me)who's only teacher till that moment had been San Pedro and Aya. It is a lesson that the plants teach the way if one listens.
As a result of my involvement I have made the decision to relocate to latin america. I have found my deep purpose and walking the path of men like Miguel and Don Rivas is the way for me to achieve it.I hope to be relocated to the Vilcabamba Valley within the next two yrs.

Tobacco

Tobacco is the number one power plant of the world. Tobacco is the Plant of Power. The names he has told me for himself are Spirit Food and Power Poison. Tobacco is food for the spirits. That is why we offer pinches of Tobacco to herbs when we gather them. Tobacco is nourishment that feeds the spirits and strengthens them. You can use it for protection against negative energies, because if you dedicate it to Protection it will feed the energies of Protection. Like feeding your watchdogs to make them strong. In the same way, it makes prayer-energies more Powerful. If you place prayer intentions and songs in Tobacco when it is growing, it absorbs that energy and acts like a kind of spiritual megaphone for your prayers when you release them. You can enlist the help of elemental-type spirits that don't care about you normally by offering them Tobacco as a kind of payment. The same thing is said among peoples here in Turtle Island and in the Amazon, that the reason humans were placed on Earth was to cultivate Tobacco for the spirits, because they cannot do it themselves.

Tobacco feeds our own spirits when we consume it. We can become addicted to his food, more so if our spirits are starving, then we may crave him and his food. The trouble is, consuming Tobacco unconsciously means that only a little bit of the Power comes in, and, more important, it doesn't reach your Spirit, the depths within you that are crying to be fed. Consuming Tobacco unconsciously is like the unconsciousness of compulsive eating, and it becomes compulsive for the same reasons. Both of these compulsions are manifestations of a starving spirit. (You even see how people who stop smoking often gain weight because they take up overeating instead.)

It also, because it magnifies the power of prayer and intention, magnifies the intention of Tobacco companies to make people addicted and funnel money to them. The commercial Tobacco growers and companies dedicate this intention to the Tobacco they grow -- to feed the spirit of addiction in us. That addiction is intentional and it is because the Tobacco companies put that intention in, both physically (through the hundreds of additive chemicals that can legally constitute 20% of dry weight, not to mention tons of pesticides) and spiritually (through their Intent) dedicate this most sacred of Power Plants to this purpose, of creating addiction. This is a spiritually Powerful plant -- you try to get a lettuce leaf to addict people and place them under your command and intention, well, you might not get much results. You take the most Powerful of Power plants and put in it the intent to "Addict millions of people and place them under our command so they have to feed us money" -- that Power plant will give you Powerful results.

Tobacco also shows how when sacred powers are used carelessly and unconsciously, they can cause harm and sickness. There is only one Power, which can be shaped and used in different ways, up to us.

Blaming Tobacco for how he is used is like blaming electricity for how it is used.

And with some sacred things, most sacred things, the power is fragile and must be protected. Tobacco's Power is not fragile. It remains intact no matter how it is used or misused, no matter what other contaminants are also present. This is why ordinary cigarettes can even be used in ceremony. The Intent put in it by the commercial grower and cigarette companies can be cleared by your Intent. (And there are many ways to use Tobacco besides smoking.)

Tobacco is a plant that involves true secrets in its practice. There are things about his practice that are genuine secrets. What I have spoken of is only the public side of the shamanic use of Tobacco, and that is Powerful enough. I don't smoke cigarettes, except under certain circumstances, but I can never say "no" when someone offers me a cigarette, because they are offering me something so sacred, even if they don't know it.

Tobacco shamanism of South America

The Tobacco shamanism of South America is a secret hidden in plain sight. It is mentioned by practically every anthropologist who has done work with Indians in the Upper Amazon, yet it is invisible to them. Books about Amazonian ethnobotany and entheogen use often omit Tobacco altogether.

Tobacco is used as a universal curing plant by some Amazonian peoples. I was reading a book by French anthropologist Philippe Descola about his work with the Achuar. in one part he talks about collecting information on medicinal plants. He was introduced to several dozen medicinal plants. Then at some point, it dawned on him that he never saw any of those plants actually used. The Achuar used Tobacco as the medicine for every sickness. So Descola lost interest in investigating Achuar plant medicine further. (Jeremy Narby in "The Cosmic Serpent" is practically the first anthropologist to question why Tobacco is dismissed this way.)

Tobacco shamanism is learned in a similar way to how herbalism in general is learned among Indians of the Upper Amazon. It is learned through "dieta." (For more on dieta, go to http://forums.ayahuasca.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=7851 and http://forums.ayahuasca.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=7855
A person learning herbalism usually begins by dieta with Ayahuasca, one of whose functions is to teach humans how to communicate with plants (another of her functions is to teach plants how to communicate with humans). Then they will do dieta with various plants, living alone in the jungle on a semi-fast drinking huge quantites of a single medicinal plant for a week to two weeks, to the point where they become sick from overdosing on that medicine, and then they know that Plant spirit, or really that spirit is like part of them. It is kind of like a vision quest for each medicinal plant.

Tobacco shamanism is learned something in this way -- using Nicotiana rustica, Amazonian wild Tobacco, aka Mapacho, which is 15 to 18 times as high in nicotine as Nicotiana tabacum. Nicotine can be a deadly poison if ingested into the stomach in sufficient quantity (it would take much less pure nicotine to kill you than arsenic or cyanide). But nicotine also creates a tolerance. Nicotine is a poison, a nerve poison, and that is connected to his power. The Tobacco shaman is basically poisoned, and survives this poisoning and comes out changed, with Tobacco's power connected to his power. My friend who was initiated into Tobacco shamanism in the Amazon said that Tobacco is a solar energy and compared it to the Sun itself -- you could get harmed standing out in the sun too long if your body was not used to it, but once your body is adapted, it can take any amount of sunlight. Tobacco shamans can drink quantities of nicotine that would kill a non-initiated person; and no amount of nicotine will kill them, it only keeps increasing their power.

In some Amazonian cultures it is a little different -- in some cultures children grow up eating small amounts of Tobacco and their bodies become habituated to it early, and they don't have to go through such a poisoning ordeal to become a tabaquero.

Nicotine is a nerve poison. It affects the nervous system. Take enough of it to become immune to its toxic effects, and you have changed your nervous system.

LONDON - A universal mystical experience with life-changing effects can be produced by the hallucinogen contained in magic mushrooms, scientists claimed yesterday.

Forty years after Timothy Leary, the apostle of drug-induced mysticism, urged his 1960s hippie followers to "tune in, turn on, and drop out", researchers at Johns Hopkins University in the US have for the first time demonstrated that mystical experiences can be produced safely in the laboratory.

They say that there is no difference between drug-induced mystical experiences and the spontaneous religious ones that believers have reported for centuries. They are "descriptively identical".

And they argue that the potential of the hallucinogenic drugs, ignored for decades because of their links with illicit drug use in the 1960s, must be explored to develop new treatments for depression, drug addiction and the treatment of intolerable pain.

Anticipating criticism from church leaders, they say they are not interested in the "Does God exist?" debate. "This work can't and won't go there."

Interest in the therapeutic use of psychedelic drugs is growing around the world. In the UK, the Royal College of Psychiatrists debated their use at a conference in March for the first time for 30 years. A conference held in Basel, Switzerland, last January, reviewed the growing psychedelic psychiatry movement.

The drug psilocybin is the active ingredient of magic mushrooms, which grow wild in Wales and were openly sold in London markets until a change in the law last year.

For the Johns Hopkins study, 30 middle-aged volunteers who had religious or spiritual interests attended two eight-hour drug sessions, two months apart, receiving psilocybin in one session and a non-hallucinogenic stimulant - Ritalin - in the other. They were not told which drug was which.

One-third described the experience with psilocybin as the most spiritually significant of their lifetime and two-thirds rated it among their five most meaningful experiences.

In more than 60 per cent of cases the experience qualified as a "full mystical experience" based on established psychological scales, the researchers say. Some likened it to the importance of the birth of their first child or the death of a parent.

The effects lasted for at least two months. Eight out of 10 of the volunteers reported moderately or greatly increased wellbeing or life satisfaction. Relatives, friends and colleagues confirmed the changes.

The study is one of the first in the new discipline of "neurotheology" -the neurology of religious experience. The researchers, who report their findings in the online journal Psychopharmacology, say that, though unorthodox, their aim is to explore the possible benefits of drugs like psilocybin.

Professor Roland Griffiths, of the department of neuroscience and psychiatry at Johns Hopkins, said: "As a reaction to the excesses of the 1960s, human research with hallucinogens has been basically frozen in time. I had a healthy scepticism going into this. [But] under defined conditions, with careful preparation, you can safely and fairly reliably occasion what's called a primary mystical experience that may lead to positive changes in a person.

"It is an early step in what we hope will be a large body of scientific work that will ultimately help people."

A third of the volunteers became frightened during the drug sessions with some reporting feelings of paranoia.

The researchers say psilocybin is not toxic or addictive, unlike alcohol and cocaine, but that volunteers must be accompanied throughout the experience by people who can help them through it.

The study is hailed as a landmark by former director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse, Charles Schuster, in a commentary published alongside the research.

In a second commentary, Huston Smith, America's leading authority on comparative religion, writes that mystical experience "is as old as humankind" and attempts to induce it using psychoactive plants were made in some ancient cultures, such as classical Greece, and in some contemporary small-scale cultures.

"But this is the first scientific demonstration in 40 years, and the most rigorous ever, that profound mystical states can be produced safely in the laboratory. The potential is great."

Something a little more directed and spiritual than just frolicking around in a park somewhere. Any suggestions on either the environment I should put myself in, or any ritualistic processes I should use either during or to prepare with?

Learning to be active in our communities

In the mushroom-induced precognition thread, we started discussing how to approach and offer to tell people what we see, when we see hurts and ways of healing. These visions are almost daily for me, with or without entheogenic means. It is no longer overwhelming for me to see them, but I struggle on how to address the person and how to best offer help to them.

I'm currently learning how to communicate better, how to get what I see across in terms which are not threatening, not condescending, and with the fullness of the love I feel towards the person - I have found this is not so easy! When I try in simple terms, they say "stop talking down to me". When I speak in my personal vocabulary, they say "stop acting superior." (Within my usual speech patterns, I'm told I sound like a professor of religious studies or anthropology.)

It's very frustrating, but I am slowly finding the middle ground. I have been a diviner and healer for one of my communities for 10 years, I'm used to people knowing about me and coming to me. Now I am branching out to anyone in my bioregion and they do not know I am so easily accessible, nor how I work. It startles people when you come up to them and offer your services. How do you do that? "Hi! I'm Moon, I do shamanic work. If you ever need help, an ear or healing work, let me know."??? Not very good at this part of it yet. I am just now coming out of the Hermit, Herbal Woman phase...it's so much easier when people come to you for things.

As I figure things out in my head, I write them in my blog - open to anyone interested. I've found I can talk the way I do and people take it as just my personal epiphanies. They feel comfortable thinking about what I say and taking it in on their own time - they then share with me how it has affected them. It started as an experiment, which had very positive results - so now it is something I do with full intent and will.

I am becoming known for my spiritual work within the different communities I am a part of. I see the need for it within my tribes and I want to serve them as a healer and diviner, I just don't know how to be this in an way where my approaching them won't put them off.

Is there anyone else working through this?

Mushroom-induced precognitive abilities

You know it's precognition when what you'd dreamed and thought about aligns later on with an event outside your head. For instance, this afternoon I awoke at 4:03 and later read about two fires at the same Peabody, Massachusetts home. The first fire had been April 3rd(4:03), the more recent fire happened this morning, 14 hours before I awoke. There are certain minutes I equate with dates. 4:03 is one of those, April 3rd is the date my mentor died. In trying to remain at highest state of awareness I've turned to reading several newspapers daily. I'm looking for God, a God I believe responds to questions that involve itself. As God is mysterious, I can only develop a relationship with God by talking to her (I prefer the feminine she/her refering to God because I prefer the passion the opposite inspires.). To see the world one must know it, so I read my newspapers.

In my second precognition this afternoon I'd thought,"Think globally, act locally." I recalled the bumper sticker with that mantra. Then in the news I saw that Theodore Levitt, the former Harvard Business Review editor who coined the term "globalization", had died.
Both these precognitions involve local events(I'm in Massachusetts).

Precognition demonstrates the power we have to see everywhere if we're willing to see. In a thrilling way it seems precognition is a trait I imagine God to be very proficient. Two months ago I experienced my first remote view. I saw a place I had not seen and discovered that night the place is real... The value is mysterious, but I think it has something to do with the number one. I'm working to see more of the world, and I am. I suppose the question remains, am I missing what's behind me? I don't think so. I think what's known regarding precognition is little, and I think it's the most exciting area of study in the world.

Catuaba?

Has anyone heard of Catuaba, or know anything about it? It is supposed to be an aphrodesiac. A friend of mine last night told me he tried it with a female partner recently and that he thought it was great. She didn't seem to get as much out of it as he did though. Any thoughts on what this Plant Spirit has to offer?

life vs death: to 'bee' or not to 'bee' - mostly in the mind

i spent the weekend in the mojave desert at a gathering celebrating life under the fullmoon. on sunday morning, a girl in her early 20's was stung by a bee. the bee died but that's a different story; a tragic one of miscommunication. this is a a story of good communications and life.
the girl's throat started to close up on her and she began to panic - she had a history of being allergic to bee stings, and had even taken an epinephrin shot a last time she had been stung. we had no epinephrin for her in the middle of the mojave desert. when i came to her, she was in laid out on the floor our first aide tent , 'camp renewal' with Sarada, our nurse and a bunch of very anxious people. she could barely breathe and her pulse was 146 and climbing, we couldn't find her friends either. it was starting to look very bad, as we couldn't get her to relax, it began to look like we might loose her. someone volunteered to drive her to a nearby (2hrs drive?) hospital and brought his car around but she refused because she had taken mdma and didn't "...want to go to a hospital on drugs... "

as soon as she told me she was on mdma i knew she had a chance.

"you took exstacy? that's wonderful! why don't you ask your throat why it's so tight? what is it holding on too?" i asked her.

she did and instantly relaxed, she started breathing and her pulse dropped to 72 in less than 30 seconds.(Sarada, has this neat little 'vital stats' device that goes on your finger). a few moments later, a wave of fear and panic took her again but this time much less and she already knew that she had won. this time i suggested that she forgive herself.... 5 minutes later she was sitting up and 15 minutes later she was even enjoying her roll again.
a doctor showed up - "is there a doctor in the desert?"- talked to her, gave her some hits from an asma inhaler and some over the counter allergy meds, but she was fine at this point. 45 minutes, or so, later she was back on the dance floor.

i wonder how many people die because they believe they will, rather than because they are actually in any danger. this young lady really could have died, she was tired, exposed, dehydrated, low blood sugar, tachycardia, on mdma (and who knows if that's all she took that weekend) and CONVINCED that she would die from a bee sting if she didn't get a shot.

yet by being reminded to communicate with herself she instantly chose to live.

how many subconscious limiting beliefs do you hold on to?
i have found dozens and dozens over the years, practically one for every time i received some form of abuse as a child and one for every limiting belief my family and society imprinted and constantly indoctrinates us with. know that each and every one of those limiting undermined the quality of my life and looked for opportunities to show me that i deserved anything less than the most magical and pleasure full existence until i chose to reevaluate them and limit them from my life.

the human vessel never ceases to amaze me.

do you limit the number of life limiting beliefs to '0'?
do you increase your number of empowering beliefs on regular basis?
i mean we gotta 'bee -live' in something... hehe :)

The Prophecy of the Eagle and the Condor

The Prophecy of the Eagle and the Condor is told by many Native nations in the Western Hemisphere. The following is an elaboration from the Peace and Dignity Journeys Confederation of the Eagle and Condor Coordinating Council. The Elders of this continent remember and talk about a prophecy that foretold how we will come together and reunite as one. We are like a body that was broken into pieces and this body will come back together to be whole again. They speak about this in the South, Center and North. Our Elders tell us that we will unite and get our strength back like many arrows that will not be broken. They remember the history to keep the fire alive. We have to come together to be one, to have complete understanding. The main tool used was the arrow because our ancestors all over the continent were hunters. In time they added this arrow to a sacred bow. This bow is used all over this continent and is what we call the half moon. They knew we would be around and this bow would be again in the center, marking the direction that we should take. If we take a step we send this arrow to follow. All of our people have to make a new design for our children and the future generations. They said it is written in the stars and we have to make this work so they can move the spiritual energy. This will begin a new time when we can take the Spirit in our own hands when the Eagle and Condor reunite. Our leaders said that we should not forget to pass this message to our children. We will reunite our family and our people. Their Sun will be a new light. When this is done the people will fulfill their destiny. The pieces will be in place. There is a space for everybody and they will be apart of this prophecy. The majority of our leaders say don't forget to teach our children. All of the last leaders that were in command said to keep the family together. We will be standing in this new design. We will hold this in our home one day. Teach from Father to Son, from Mother to Daughter. It is very simple to understand. The Encounter of the Condor of Urin and the Eagle of Hanan This Prophecy was related during the First Encuentro of Indigeneous Peoples in Quito, Ecuador in 1990. In the unfolding of the life of the Indian Nations, every five centuries produces transformations of both foundations and forms. With these changes, life does not lose its essence. It becomes covered with new skin. The old is rejuvenated. It is nourished with pure energy. This energy Is transmitted by the great spirits of Allpa Mama and Pacha Mama, that Is, of nature and of the Universe, in general. Thousands of years ago, when life Initiated its vital cycle, Pachakamak (God of Time) created Intl (the sun) and Quilla (the moon) out of the union of it's tears and, thus, gave birth to the Runas, to the people, of this continent Appla-Yala and In this birth emerged the Condor and the Eagle, the Kuntur of Urin and the Anga de Hanan, their spirits continually enriching the veins of the Runas of this continent. Their strength motivated the north and south to unite. The union of the people of the North with the South also signifies the union of the Condor and the Eagle. The Condor and the Eagle join their tears from Jahanpacha (the sky) to Ucupacha (the underground.) Out of this union sprang Central America. In this piece of earth was concentrated the wisdom of Hana and Urin. New nations developed, whose inhabitants had the capacity to sow the earth In the middle of a great ocean and convert it into what is today Central America. These peoples, oriented by the laws of Allpa Mana and Pacha Mama, had to pass through difficult situations, one of which was the splitting of its nations into four parts. After this tragedy, the Willak Umus (prophets) instructed their Amautas, Curacas, Arawikus or wise men to create prophecies that would orient and guide our peoples. These prophecies would teach the Indian nations to maintain themselves solid, united and, above all, to search for the most appropriate paths for their liberation. The beginning of the liberation of the Indian people would be symbolized by different prophecies, one of which Is the union of the tears of the Condor of Urin and the Eagle of Hanan. The union of these tears would cauterize our wounds and fortify our spirit, body and thought. The great spirit would open furrows and in each furrow would water its seed, and In each step would spring battalions of men who would bare their chests to fend off the daggers of the enemy. They would reach out with their hands to erase oppression, exploitation and Injustice, and they would write on the huge page of the sky the sacred word of liberty. The union of the Condor and Eagle, according to the prophecy, should occur in this time. The ensuing time period will be born with a new spirit. This new spirit will unite once again the red nations of North, Central and South parts of the hemisphere. It is important to understand the interpretation of the prophecy in order to understand the purpose and scope of the Peace and Dignity Journeys mandate which the intercontinental run is a part. There are many steps that will and are being taken by our peoples in this time. The Peace and Dignity runs are some of these steps. All steps are part of the Vision, Dreams and Prayer that we are making to carry out the instructions of our ancestors and to fulfill the prophecy by active participation in these steps. This is the prayer of Peace and Dignity that the Eagle and Condor Confederation be reestablished again. ******* History of Peace and Dignity Journeys Spirituality is Responsibility! The Peace and Dignity Journeys is not the runs themselves. All the work involved has been thought out and many peoples had dialogues in this regard prior to the idea of the first run in 1992. Many uninformed people thought the run was the only activity of the Peace and Dignity Journeys. That is not so! The vision of our peoples has compelled us to provide a vehicle that will enable our peoples to reconnect to one another through the Sacred fire and strengthen our connection to our Father and Mother the Great Spirit, Mother Earth. Peace and Dignity Journeys is the vehicle we have provided. The Journey never ends. In 1989 a group of indigenous people in Chicago were concerned with the Prophecy of the Eagle and Condor time that was nearing. This time was marked and recorded on the Sacred Stone Calendar of the Mexica People.(This calendar is incorrectly known as the "Aztec Calendar" named by the Anthropologists that dug it up in what it presently known as "Mexico".) The calendar has time spans of 52 year cycles. The last cycle was nearing its end on October 12, 1992. The new cycle began on October 13,1992. Within this new cycle would be a time of rebirth of consciousness amongst the two-legged of the world and the Eagle and Condor Prophecy would be manifested in this time. The formation of a confederation that would serve towards the spiritual reconnecting of our Sacred Fires in the whole of Turtle Island was the topic of many dialogues that entailed how such a task could be accomplished. It was decided that the time had come to move in this direction as it is our responsibility as the descendants of the Mexica peoples to do so. We are not waiting for others to decide for us or for permission from any two-legged. We prayed for the blessing and help of our Grand Creator and our ancestors to guide us in this way. These dialogues were not new to the thinking of individuals in Chicago but were in fact a continuation of many dialogues in this regard by our peoples over many years when all nations of indigenous peoples were passing down the prophecies and legends to the next generations and at a time in this century when the ceremonies and Sacred Fires were being maintained or rekindled for the purpose of our spiritual health and development. The call by many contemporary elders and spiritual leaders to return to the original ways was being heeded by many young peoples from the cities and reservations and all walks of life here in the North. They began their Journeys to heal themselves and increase their understanding of the Sacred ways and ceremonies. We learned about the responsibility and risks many of the spiritual leaders took to protect this way of life that came under attack by the invasion and holocaust of our ancestors over 500 years ago. Not one indigenous nation today can claim that their Original way of life was not thwarted, repressed or banned in some way by the Nation States that were formed without their participation, consent or consultation. Even today legislation by these governments does not recognize our Way of life let alone provide protection for it. In some cases as in the "United States" the Native American Religious Freedom Act was diluted so it has no teeth. So we move forward as we are accountable to Grandfather and Grandmother and the instructions of our ancestors. The dialogues continued and a man named Alphonso Perez had the idea of making an intercontinental prayer that would coincide with the timing of the cyclical change. Spiritual Running would be the method by which this prayer could be accomplished. This intercontinental run would be one of many steps that would reveal themselves in this cycle towards the healing of our peoples and our Sacred Mother Earth. This is why the run began to be organized in the late 80s'. The group of people in Chicago organized and incorporated the Name of Peace and Dignity Journeys. They also put their time and attention to taking on the task of being the main coordination body for the 1992 run. The president was Aurelio Diaz Tekpankalli who had worked prior to all this and to present time on the formation of the Confederation of the Eagle and Condor. The volume of work has taken years. This was not just an activity limited to 1992. It was decided that Alphonso would go in the four directions of the Northern Hemisphere and Francisco Melo would go to the South to find relatives that were willing to put time and attention towards the prayer. Tekpankalli went to many nations and communities as well to pray and hold ceremonies with our relatives that had invited Peace and Dignity there. Each time the elders told him "we've been waiting for you". In each community that still held the memory of their peoples they told many stories of the Prophecy. Each step we have made has verified our vision, dream and beliefs. There are many who have doubt. There have been many obstacles to our peoples because of doubt. We have no doubt in the Great Spirit and the steps we are making. There is no room for doubt in any of this work including the work it takes to make this run possible again. Erasing the doubt is part of the healing of 500 years of genocide and colonization.

Voacanga africana Seeds

Anyone have any experience with these?

I purchased about 500 of them from IAS -- then, based on internet research, I tried chewing 50 of them. They were tough and chewy, sort of nutty tasting. After getting about 20 of them down, I put the rest in a coffee grinder and then mixed it into peanut butter. The result was a few moderate visuals and then an overwhelming need to sleep. I took an hour nap and then went to bed! Dreams were normal that night.

Two nights ago I tried 65 of them; this time opting just to grind them and use the peanut butter. The result was pretty much nil; except for a few hints at visuals, nothing at all happened. I didn't even get tired. In fact, I stayed up too late and ending up reading about a quarter on one of the Narnia series books. No dreams remembered.

Any suggestions as to what I can try next? I'm tempted to just go for broke and chew 100 of them.

Plants and Their Intentions

An urban shaman and I were talking the other day -- specifically about the differences between DMT and Salvia. He was saying that he believes that all plants have specific intentions. I was wondering if you agree with this statement. Or is it something more along the lines that plants have their own qualitites or spirits which are expressed when we ingest them (quid, smoke, etc.).

And if you do believe that the statement is true ... that plants have intentions ... could you let me know what your own experience with various plants' intentions has been? I suppose this can really apply to any entheogen and in any form.
