First, they indicate a part of your body (perhaps spleen) has too much heat. It depends on where on the toungue the cracks occur.

Also, have you checked out your yeast/candida levels? sometimes cracks in the tongue indicate a flare-up in yeast levels.

I would reccommend checking your ph level, and making the body more alkaline with water balancing.

For some, temporary releif and healing can be aided by washing the mouth with a hydrogen peroxide mouthwash- like edgar cayce's mouth wash (hertitage products).

So what part of the tongue are the cracks on? Raw licorice tea is a place to start for neutralizing excessive heat.

I completely agree with Travis on this one. I had a similar happening last year. You can buy Ph test strips at your local health food store for under 5 dollars, usually a three day kit. The directions are really easy to follow, track your information and see what it says... if I remember correctly my Ph was low and that was the problem...

A secondary option may be a food allergy or intolerance to soy, gluten, nuts or dairy products. I'm a big advocate of food and mood journals as they can be a great source for learning what your body does and doesn't like. The simplest way is to just take a small notebook and once every one or two hours jot down what you've eaten and drank, and how you feel physically and mentally.... it doesn't have to be a huge entry.

Try to do it for two weeks - for women a full 30 days is best so we can get our cycle in there too... then go back and look for patterns, for instance if you get a headache an hour after eating Chinese...you may have a soy or MSG (soy based) intolerance.... drink a glass of wine - get migraine, could be a tannin (sp) issue.

Once I figured out my soy issue I stopped having Ph problems, my skin took on a much healthier color and I no longer get daily nagging headaches (sadly still get migraines).... and I stopped getting mouth sores and tongue blisters

        Good luck!

that could indicate too much heat in the stomach/earth meridian, and attendant heat in the liver/wood funtion. Do you eat alot of raw foods? Sometimes its good to have warm, at least partially cooked foods. A blend called 'relaxed wanderer' is good for liver funtion, and another (both chinese) is called 'central qi" pill.

For some people, a quick remedy is a tea of chinese smoked plums (wu mei), it quickly alkalizes the body, and works quick on the tongue cracks. (at least for me).

is it true that a crack down the middle of the tongue indicates a heart problem? i thought it was normal to have the crack down the middle...also i heard of the indentations of the teeth in the tongue being a sign of weakeness....
