Here it is:

An ecovillage is a human scale (10-3,000 residents),
full-featured settlement (i.e. including work,
residence, food provision, and social life), which
strives to minimise negative environmental impact, is
supportive of healthy human development, and can be
successfully continued into the indefinite future'.

Currently in Scotland there are several groups who
have been trying to set up genuinely sustainable,
commuity-led, low impact developments in Scotland but
have been stopped by the double-edged sword of getting
planning permission for affordable land, and the high
price of land with appropriate planning permission.
These obstacles could be overcome with appropriate
political support. An obvious means of helping these
groups across Scotland is implementing a separate planning
policy which would enable such small community groups
to gain planning permission - only for genuinely
sustainable developments.

There is now an electronic petition to the Scottish
Parliament to make a Scottish Planning Policy on
ecovillages as a useful addition to their many
other planning policies, and which will encourage
genuinely sustainable land use.

It only takes 1.5 minutes to sign the petition and if
you tick the appropriate box you can allow the
organiser to compile a database of all the people in
Scotland who are interested in ecovillages in
Scotland. So please sign the petition and pass this message on
to anyone who may be interested.

Please note that this e-petition expires 6th December,
so please act soon!

Thank you
