x-post New necklace design

Hey, I just posted a pic of a new necklace design I'm making.... this one is for a cultural exchange trip... they're closed with a non-attached ribbon so they could be worn by all ages. What do you think of the construction? They're usually worn as chokers. Think people would feel OK with the thread loop closure or is it "too far out" for buyers?

Her jewelry is absolutely beautiful and I am so proud to now own a piece. I sent her some hand knit arm warmers I made from my own handspun merino yarn in exchange for the necklace she gave me. I don't know if she can trade more because she needs her inventory for a show she's doing or something, but since it was such a good experience, that I just want to encourage us to do trades in the etsy sellers tribe.

Do you buy more than you sell?

Boy I keep getting the greatest things on etsy. I have no budget for this, mind you, and am trying to be mindful of it being a source of INCOME. Ha!

At least I am supporting other artisans and voting with my dollar when I buy things I don't make myself.

Besides, I love all the different styles and techniques.

Varied Stock

Promote yourself!

This has always been my response when people complain on the Etsy fora about a lack of sales. I'm constantly working to think up new ways to promote, I love to diversify. A few weeks ago I took the plunge and purchased a vinyl cutter so that I could offer decals of some of my lineart at shows. It turned into a great device for advertising as well. I set the machine up this week, and made two new decals, one for my studio, and one for my new shop that will focus around "not artwork". I took the car out for the first time yesterday, drove around town doing errands and going out with my hubby. Overall I spent about three hours on the road. When I got home, I had two E-mails from people who had seen my info on my car! It was a better response than I could have hoped for.

Along with the decals I design for my shop, I'm offering to make custom decals featuring other shop owner's web addresses at a low price. I'll take all different kinds of custom orders, so please let me know if you have something you'd like done.

I am just about to start an ETSY shop, it is my first time selling anything online which is a tad daunting for me .

I am an artist as I have always made the art and sold original pieces in person. I will start with a small range of greeting cards and bookmarks of my art images.

I found that there is so much info on ETSY to read when you start up i found it a little overwhelming. Si I was ust wondered if anyone had key tips for a newby like me, anything that you think is important to know when starting on ETSY that may not be obvious???

I think that it would be a really good habit to get into to take an extra couple seconds and type out our etsy address after each of our posts. It just makes it that much more convenient to flip around to each other sites. After all we are always networking and marketing right??

For those of you that read my advertising brainstorm post, I was curious about different ways to bring attention to my site. I took almost all the advice that was given to me and I'm finding myself so consumed with the marketing aspect I have little room left to do what I love the most which is make jewelry. So I'm just curious on how everyone goes about structuring their time. Between putting 2-3 posts up a day (which by the way I can't do, due to the nature of my work) blogging and having a flickr account how do you manage your time??????

Can you feel it when a buyer gives you a positive feedback?
Our power went out yesterday at noon and came back today at 9 am. I had a terrible night, my house was so cold this morning, I couldn't have breakfast... However, when I realized my feedback had changed and I read my buyer's comments, it was more than enough to make my day. Suddenly, the cold and the bad night were forgotten.

Wish List for sellers tools

What 5 things would you wish for etsy to design as sellers tools?

I would like these 5 things.

1. Information tracking to show where shop footfall comes from and how many people visit the shop.
2. The ability to make listing templates to speed up the listing process.
3. A Finish button on every edit page of listings.
4. Drag and drop picture moving abilities within a listing.
5. The ability to arrange the items in the shop in whatever order we liked by drag and drop.

The other wish I have is that they quickly sort out the search engine because as it stands right now it is of little use to new people coming into etsy to buy.

So what are your five in shop wishes and do you have any other general site wishes?

new billing system up

It's a miniature book pendant. Hand sculpted and carved polymer clay covers and heavy-weight watercolor pages on the inside. It's a bit more than I normally charge ($5-$10) for most of my items, but it just took so long and a lot of effort to get it like I wanted it.
