new here

Hey all! I'm pleased to find a tribe just for Etsy! I'm not an Etsy vendor (yet!), but would love to pick other vendor's brains! No zombies, I promise!

The main thing keeping me from setting up shop on Etsy is lack of pics of my stuff. We have a dinosaur digi-cam, which I'd like to bury in the backyard! I haven't tried taking pics of my clothing yet, but it sucks for pics of my jewelry. I had a friend do a photo shoot of some of my work, but the files are enormous, and won't even load to tribe.

I'd like to pick up an inexpensive digi-cam for myself, but have no idea what I'm looking at! Do any of you have advice on cams that may work well for jewelry, as well as clothing? I'm hoping for something within the $200-300 range, nothing fancy. (Not like my pal's $4,000 camera!)

Thanks in advance for tips and info!

    I use a Kodak easyshare ($250).
I take pics in front of a southern exposure window when the sun is not directly shining thru.
    Works great for me.

I have a Canon Powershot A540- 6megapixels . Works great, added bonus is I can buy different lens attachments for doing close ups or wide angle. All together with extended warranty, bigger memory card, close-up lens and adapter, and rechargeable batteries.. I think I spent around $350-$400.

For taking jewelry photos, you want a camera that has macro capabilities. As far as clothing, not sure about that. I find that trying to get something in the frame, the pic looks far away. If I move far away an zoom in, I get blurry pics even in macro setting. So I'm still trying to figure that one out.

    Hope this helps.

I have a Cannon PowerShot SD600. I love it. It was pretty expensive, but it's been well worth it (especially because it has a rechargable battery). I have to photograph my bindis in the macro setting to get clear shots.
