Kesey sQuare fire

M'kay boyz and girrlz. I gots some shite to inform y'alls of...
Kesey square. For the last couple months, Lorq and I have been facilitating a bit of a fire jam every other Thursday at Kesey Square, in conjunction with the Bike Brigade/the random electro gathering. None of this stuff has any permits, mainly because there's no way to get permits for it other than renting the square, which the city says isn't necessary. We've had the cops roll by, stop and watch (while we burned) and leave without a word. The reason why the cops left is (probably) that we're up on the safety. We have a full fire safety at all times and a table n' chair barrier around our performance space.
Lorq and I have decided that we want to push this event in a very solid, very specific direction in order to make sure that we DO NOT end up with any sort of event like that which evolved under the Hawthorne Bridge in Portland that has caused a ban on most fire performance in Portland without (expensive) permits (see PDX fireless jam tribe for more info on that, it's bad.)
Lorq's crew, the joy squad, is wanting to come up with some specific choreography for a show from 9-:30/:45/:? and from 10-11, we hope to host an open jam, with no fire after 11. The reason for this is that it's easy to get some responsible individual from the local fire community to commit to watching people burn for an hour. We have to watch CONSTANTLY in order to maintain a safe, orderly space that will not end up getting shut down. (once again, see PDX fireless jam tribe, I WISH that I was just paranoid...)
We're gonna require that anyone who wants to be in the open jam show up by 9:30 so that we can make sure that (a) they're sober enough (b) they're competent enough to not hurt anyone and (c) their tools are safe enough to burn with. These stipulations are being put in place because Lorq and I don't want to end up stuck in the square until 3 am while one kid burns over and over, etc. We want to make it a short, sweet, and safe time so that by the time the bike brigade's full force arrives, the whole space will be cleared for dancing (including ours).
Any help that could be given (safety, moral support, crowd control, etc) is welcome.
We wanna make SO sure that this event does not end up endangering our fire community as other fire jams in other cities have done in the past. If you happen to show up to the random electro gathering some Thursday, please make sure that, should you wanna burn, you get there by 9:30 and NO FIRE AFTER 11. Please tell your buddies, too. I could see this thing become something really great so long as we can get a couple simple, solid rules in place.

This May’s monthy event is a very special fundraiser at the Orion for one of Eugene’s favorite local artists and Visionaries: Mr. Jeigh Baldwin! Jeigh is a 10 year Veteran multigenre DJ and promoter from Santa Barbara who came to Eugene a couple of years ago with the purest of concepts, free outdoor parties. SYNOPSIS
A sleep-deprived theatre director undergoes hypnotic regression to stop a reoccurring nightmare and unexpectedly participates in an ancient dreamtime ritual that sends him through the labyrinths of madness and transcendence in Antero Alli's surrealistic journey, "The Invisible Forest". Inspired by the radical ideas of French playwright Antonin Artaud, the filmmaker also borrows from Rimbaud's poetics of delirium for the "deliberate disorientation of the senses" to achieve a series of altered states. In Alli's own words, "Cinema is a drug. If some movies put us to sleep like tranquilizers and others jack us up like triple espressos, The Invisible Forest is a 100% organic, user-friendly hallucinogen".

hey, i'm not sure if it's acceptable to post this here or not, but if it isn't then would a moderator please take it down and notify me?

this is an ad for my dj services, that i wrote earlier today. this being an events forum for eugene, people on this tribe may be interested.

*ahem*

With so many dj and event coordinators in the area, what's somebody with an important wedding coming up supposed to do? How do you choose one when they all sound so professional and flashy on the outside?

Reasons to choose Hot Lava Productions:

-Affordability-
Hot Lava Productions do not charge professional rates. This isn't their day job and they certainly aren't trying to make a career of it (at least not yet!). They're a couple of college aged men who love spinning records and getting people moving, and if they make a few bucks along the way.. then they look forward to buying more records! Rates are less than half of what some local services charge.. HLP have done weddings for $200 and would love to break that record by going even lower! Barter much? They do! Shoot us with an offer... we are both collectors and pack-rats at heart. Love anything music, computers, tech, green, will even exchange for other services.

-Vinyl-

Hot Lava Productions plays from a library of almost entirely vinyl. You won't see any scratch imitation software (if the event calls for scratching), or CD-J hardware. They believe in and support a healthy link between the DJ and the music that they are playing, and buy each of their records by hand, rather than acquiring hundreds of greatest hits and various compilations to be well rounded. Sure, we don't boast a tango section a thousand miles long, but we have plenty of everything to go around and are more than willing to find and purchase extras for your event. (Did I just step out of third person? Tell me I didn't step out of third person - This is supposed to be written by a third party!)

-Fun-

These guys enjoy what they are doing! When the DJ is not having fun, it reflects on your audience and they are less likely to "let loose". Never happens with HLP because no matter what the music, they'll be tapping their feet getting the next song lined up and communicating with the audience. They usually try to keep talking over the music (with a microphone) to a minimum, because it distracts, But if more talking is wanted then that is what you will get. HLP always take requests and find that more often than not, they are able to fill the request!

So if you find yourself scrambling to get a dj in time for ANY event, drop us an email or phone call at (not going to post on tribe) and ask for Zac. Never too late to consider, and price is never too low. We are Ultra-Flexible. :)

LST is a measure of time independent of the Sun's cycles. Thus, Local Sidereal Time (LST) moves backward in solar time about four minutes a day, two hours a month and one day a year. Anywhere you are on the planet, at the same LST you will see the same stars overhead as anyone anywhere else will at that time. Example . . . your favorite star will set 4 minutes earlier each night. So why do you care about this? Read on and you will!

The Cognitive Sciences Laboratory in Palo Alto, California, made some exciting discoveries. They studied a group that had natural clairvoyant, clairsentient, clairaudient, ESP abilities. I'd just love to let y'all in on a glorious little happenin' that occurs at the Morning Glory Cafe, usually on the last thursday of every month. Several of my dear friends and I coordinate an open mic, which has been going on for several years. The space is totally nonformal and most of the audience are also there to speak, so it's a great place to get over that stage fright that supposedly scares US people more than terrorism (imagine that!) So, come poets and comedians, actors and singers, anybody who likes to (or wants to learn to like to) perform! Come to watch, too, if you want to be inspired by your neighbors and by the gargantuan talent of today's young people.

'Is pepsi sponsoring this party?' ... No, you are thinking way to much in the box... Since I'm safe and not in danger of stating my beliefs, I'll clue you in... If you turn your pepsi bottle upside down the same word now reads lsd3d... And its funny, the i is not dotted, infact ti curves up to the left, so when its upside down it resembles the letter l even more... Also my favorite bonus note, the logo is red and blue like 3d. This is going to be a psychedelic trance party presented in 3d, get it? K!

We wanted to rent the larger warehouse and the smaller one that was used by campus a few times, however the local police shut down the last party and threatened jail to Chris. So unless that problem gets resolved, I don't want to run the risk of not having a venue for the gathering in time... I'm leaving this message open to everyone who wants to step up. Tell me why you want to mod this tribe. It's not hard. I've never really had to delete posts or threads, or even kick members. I'd also love for the new moderator to be a big, constant part of this tribe. If you think you might not stay in Eugene long, think hard about becoming moderator. It was hard for me to leave.

The newest workshop in the series is entitled "The Life Force Moves."

In this workshop, you will have the opportunity to explore your mind and body in greater depth than you may have previously thought possible. Join Jack Wild as he guides you through a series of body movements and expressions, all designed to give you a deeper sense of the life force moving within and around you.

You will learn an abundance of body movements and expressions that you may use for the rest of your life.

-richer experience of the forces at play in your body and mind

-a deeper appreciation of your own body

Ive know more about midwest festivals. particularly one in the Ozarks of Missouri, it sounds alot like the Soak event coming up. Join us for a weekend educational immersion into the science and spirit of labor support. Learn how to provide support for women and babies through pregnancy, labor, birth, and immediate postpartum.

The training includes an three days of class, extensive workbook, and on-going mentoring through didactic work to complete the program and receive certification as a Certified Birth Arts Doula.

Birth Arts offers a complete birth doula training integrating evidence-based maternity care research with traditional women’s wisdom and intuition. The workshop includes hands-on experiential practice in bodywork, rebozo, labor support techniques, and non-pharmacological methods of pain relief. We will go into detail about the practice of supporting women at birth at home, birth center, and hospital environments.

Hey everyone this is Nicole aka Discofairy and I'm extremely excited about this event both as a representative of the Hult Center and an attendee. The moment the vision was mentioned by our Director I was both impressed and flattered to see what would come of such an event. This is a fabulous event celebrating the Hult Center's 25th birthday and a rare opportunity to show the public and community in general what healing, art, music and dance can create. Be aware this is a 21 AND OVER event because alcohol will be available at purchase in the lobby during the event so make sure to bring your ID. Please keep in mind this is a City facility and a great opportunity to be on our best behavior and put forward our best face. With all that said my gratitude Mate' and Luke for stepping up and taking this event to the next level.

There are 150 tickets left right now so get your tickets in the next few days!
Tickets became available yesterday and have been flying out the doors. This event is a limited capacity at 500 and only that number of tickets will be distributed. To pick-up tickets you must come in-person to the Hult Center Ticket Office to get tickets. This is a great FREE show!

Join us at Lost Valley for a weekend educational immersion into the science and spirit of labor support. Learn how to provide support for women and babies through pregnancy, labor, birth, and immediate postpartum.

The training includes a weekend workshop, lodging (dorm or camping), meals, an extensive workbook, and on-going mentoring through didactic work to complete the program and receive certification as a Certified Birth Arts Doula.

Birth Arts offers a complete birth doula training integrating evidence-based maternity care research with traditional women’s wisdom and intuition. The workshop includes hands-on experiential practice in bodywork, rebozo, labor support techniques, and non-pharmacological methods of pain relief. We will go into detail about the practice of supporting women at birth at home, birth center, and hospital environments.

Formed in 2005 The Mystic Travellers bring a depth of musical heart and eclectic talent to any event or gathering. Imagine spiritual orange sunshine conveyed through organic acoustic world flavoured grooves that celebrate conscious lifestyles and inner transformation in a delightful and entertaining way. This upbeat original band is based on the considerable songwriting talents of the three primary members, and often performs with the unique and visually exotic tribal bellydance troupe “Luminessah”, who’s original multicultural dance compositions raise the art of sacred dance to a new and exciting level.

Gopal Das brings his traditional bluegrass background to the fore with exciting flat-picking guitar reminiscent of Jerry Garcia and Tony Rice. His original compositions combine artistic talent, beauty and compassion for all life.

Benjamin House is a multitalented player of guitar, mandolin, dulcimer and pennywhistle. His rainbow style heart songs convey his powerful vision of a united and peaceful humanity in a lively and entertaining way.

Matura is a songwriter of faith-based psychedelic folk. Not psychedelic as in the use of drugs but in the original meaning of the word psyche, meaning- soul. His songs speak of faith, unity, peace and inner transformation, and are reminiscent of the musical mysticism of Donovan, the Incredible String Band and the Beatles. He plays guitar as well as harmonium and sings a wide variety of spiritual songs and Sanskrit chants that heal, inspire and delight the soul.

With the strong supporting percussion talents of Nick Montoya , Justin Brand and Rhes Solakian' as well as the bass of Glenn Falkenberg, the Mystic Travellers are sure to inspire and entertain.

Fearless Love
Fearless Love performs Eostar Kamala's original songs of devotion and angelic communion, prayers for peace and
some original Sanskrit bhajans. The band is comprised of some of Eugene's best folk musicians who bring originality
and a true feeling of devotion to Eostar Kamala's prayerful presentation of the lyrical and sometimes upbeat and danceable tunes.
In Fearless Love the angelic sound of Glenn Falkenberg's harp and mandolin are mixing with Gopal Das'
strong bass line calling us to dance. Ben House's whistle tunes transport us to far-away lands of
living folklore while his vocals add dimension and power to Eostar's voice.
Ankush Wimavala's masterful tabla-playing adds a world-beat element to the music while
Brian Forbes' and Rhes Solakian's virtuoso percussion assure that the audience gets inspired to dance.
Fearless Love was formed in 2006 and has been playing regularly in Eugene since.
