If anyone's interested in *other* forms of manipulation, Jade from Firegroove is coming to town. I'm taking his staff class. I've never studied with him before. BUT when I first arrived in Eugene -- when I has only been here for like 2 days, and I knew zero people -- I came upon the Eugene celebration. Jade was one of the fire dancers doing a show near the Triceratops. I very clearly remember thinking, "Wow. THAT guy's amazing!!!" Kind of funny that a year later, I rode back from Burning Man on the Triceratops, with a crew of folks that included Jade. :)
Anyway, he's been doing his thing in L.A. with Firegroove. But he's coming to town next weekend. Thought I'd post this if anyone else wants to take any of these classes:
Eugene firedancing workshops.
W/ Jade of Firegroove
Where- Corestar Dojo. 439 W.2nd St Eugene
When- March 7th and 8th
How much- 1 class- 15$
2 classes- 25$
3 classes- 30$
What to bring- Your shining self, water and your tools. I’ll be bringing practice poi ( fuzzy, glow, and adjustable poi), practice staves and instructional dvd’s to sell as well.
Friday March 7th- Intermediate to Advanced Staff. 8-10pm
This class is designed for staff students with some experience. We will be working on single, contact and double staff concepts. Tricks will include- 1-4 beat weave patterns, warrior moves, throws, anti-spins, finger twirls, hand rolls, isolations, forearm and shoulder rolls, and geometric movement. I want to make this class really educational so we will work each trick as far as the class can go.
Saturday March 8th- Beginning to Intermediate Poi. 2:30- 4pm.
This class will give any beginning spinner the base fundamentals to comfortably spin poi. Intermediate students will have a chance to expand on the basic moves they already know and bring their spinning to a whole new level. Tricks will include- weave movements( high low moves, archer), Butterfly moves( thread the needle, dragonfly), hip reels, sun, 180 and 360 turns, beginning stalls and extensions.
Saturday March 9th- Intermediate to Advanced Poi 4- 6pm.
This class in meant to push all poi spinners to the next level. We will work on the concepts of advanced moves and see how they’re interrelated. Tricks will include, 5 beat weaves, crank, anti-spins, isolations, under the leg moves, behind the back, advanced stalls and wraps, fireball moves, full extensions, inversions and straight jackets. More than likely we’ll take about 6 moves that the class really wants to learn and focus on them. But if we’re flying through all that material I’ll introduce hyperloops, inversions and hybrids.
I really want these classes to be fun. I love teaching and have a lot of fun hosting these workshops. I look forward to spinning with all of you. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to get ahold of me via Myspace or jade@firegroove.com. I’m also available for private lessons (prices are negotiable). Also check out www.firegroove.com for videos and all your Fire and Practice toy needs.
