~* She's So Fine - Lee Ali*~

She walks with a bell-clock round her neck,
So the hippies think she's in with time
Her hair glistens like robins on a deck
Branches attack me from her neck

She's so fine
She's so very, very fine

Another verse I can't find lyrics to

When I veer I get so near
But so far far far away
Listen to me today.

We united just beside a leaf
The ground was hard underneath, her, her
She's so fine.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Lee Ali - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuQTsdSSl2w&feature=related
http://people.tribe.net/leeali
My love, respect and admiration knows no bounds when it comes to Lee. I met her last year when she drummed for Marguerite at my Halloween Show at the Forbidden City. I fell in love instantly. Her charm, wit, grace and passion all captured me within minutes of meeting her. I immediately asked her to come back as a soloist for my December show - and wow - did we ever get a show!!! She is a learned woman of many many talents. Morrocan dance is her specialty, and has studied this special facet of Dance for many many years. Living with the Tribes that specialize in certain movements taught her not only the dances, but the feeling, attitude and subtleties of those dances. We are so very lucky to have her as one of our local professional teachers and dancers. Her performances are like watching Fourth of July Fireworks in person. She is one of the most original and unique people I've ever met. Every time I get to spend time with her I feel like I am in the presence of a true Artist. I just love her, can you tell??
She will be gracing the stage once more at the Bold As Love show - Lee IS Bold As Love, she is SO lovely, beautiful and original - I can't wait to see her perform again.

~* Little Miss Lover - Tahma *~

Little Miss Lover, where have you been in this world for so long?
Well, I love a lover that feels like you, would you like to tag along?
Well, I really don't need any help little girl,
But I think you could help me out anyway
Would you believe, baby, I've been looking for a Sun
That feels like you For some time

Excuse me while I see if the gypsy in me is right
If you don't mind

Well, he signals me O.K.
So I think it's safe to say,
I'm gonna make a play, ohhh yeah!
Hey, hey, little Miss Lover,
There's so much you and me can discover
And I think we should start, start right now
Hey little Miss Lover!
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Have you seen Tahma dance? Her eyes, her curves, her beautiful hand made costuming? If you haven't then you've been missing out. She is one of the newer dancers in the scene, and by new I mean I've only known her for about 3 years. Her dancing has impressed me for that long, and I really admire her dedication. She's a serious Egyptian Style student, we met in Princess Farhana's class one night and I remember thinking as she walked up to dance for us - WOW what a knockout! We've been friends ever since and her love and commitment to the dance is impressive in this sometimes shallow world. She is strong, opinionated and an absolute JOY to behold. I am so happy to have her at Bold As Love.

~* BOLD AS LOVE - the Lineup*~

BOLD AS LOVE - by Jimi Hendrix
Anger, he smiles,
towering in shiny metallic purple armour
Queen Jealousy, envy waits behind him
Her fiery green gown sneers at the grassy ground

Blue are the life-giving waters taken for granted,
They quietly understand
Once happy turquoise armies lay opposite ready,
But wonder why the fight is on
But they're all bold as love, yeah, they're all bold as love
Yeah, they're all bold as love
Just ask the axis

My red is so confident that he flashes trophies of war,
and ribbons of euphoria
Orange is young, full of daring,
But very unsteady for the first go round
My yellow in this case is not so mellow
In fact I'm trying to say it's frigthened like me
And all these emotions of mine keep holding me from, eh,
Giving my life to a rainbow like you
But, I'm eh , yeah, I'm bold as love
Yeah, yeah
Well I'm bold, bold as love (hear me talking, girl)
I'm bold as love
Just ask the axis (he knows everything)
Yeah,
yeah,
yeah!

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Those are the lyrics that inspired this upcoming show. The album Axis Bold As Love - has been a constant in my life since I discovered it in my teens. I will use the songs to introduce the wonderful artists that are performing at the next show in August. I wanted to se the tone with this first song though. To me it speaks of fears and of letting those go, of being one thing and working towards another, because we are ALL Bold As Love. Enjoy the album and the dancers!

It is my honor and pleasure to welcome back our fabulous Photographer/Artist Marta Petrucci - fresh from her tour of Rome! She's been away studying in her home country and has returned with fresh and beautiful ideas and photographs of her trip. I can not wait to see what level she takes her art to this time around. Her creativity with the camera and life is so inspiring to me, and she herself is an absolute JOY to work with. The new venue has much better lighting, I can only imagine the gorgeousness that is to come.
In addition to Marta I am so honored to welcome for the first time at the show my good friend and Classy guy all around - Michael Baxter!!!! He will be joining us for the evening and will undoubtedly produce stunning action shots of everyone like NO ONE else can. This man is a legend in the Bellydance world. His work speaks for itself. tribes.tribe.net/michaelbaxter I have had the pleasure of working with him on several occasions on and off stage over the past - wow - almost 4 years - , and I can easily say that he is an artist, a creative genius and a true professional.
I am so happy to welcome both of these amazing artists to the show!!!

The title and theme for our upcoming show is Bold As Love. As I was getting all my performers together I noticed a very striking theme. All of these people are just some of the JUICIEST individuals I know. They are all beautiful on the outside - just beautiful, strong, learned, wicked and talented. They are all BOLD personalities. The name stuck - and so did the image of Jimi Hendrix' album of the same name. Mandolin is taking his inspiration from that album cover and is creating a GORGEOUS new flyer!!!!! It will be ready next week. I can't wait!!!!!
Have a great weekend - next week I begin - THE UNVEILING of our fabulous performers for Bold As Love.
Here's a hint though - he wasn't able to dance at Mother Love due to a shoulder injury, I talked to him last night - not only is he healed - but READY!!!!

Yesssssssss - change is GOOD!!
After a wonderful year of producing the shows at the beautiful Forbidden City in Hollywood, I've decided to move to Silverlake!!!!
August 9th is the date - 7PM ~ 10PM
The new location for this show is Studio A Dance - 2306 Hyperion Avenue in Silverlake - 90027. This venue is beautiful!! It is intimate and open to the outdoors - which will make the August show a very pleasant one indeed weather wise. There is TONS of free street parking around the venue - and it is in a very safe and quiet neighborhood.
The line up is getting to be super duper fabulous with not only one but 2 of my teachers and mentors. I will post the confirmed Line up in the weeks to come - and do stay tuned to this tribe for even more photos from the Last show at the Forbidden CIty.
Thank you!! and see you in August!!!!

**Important news about the Mother Love show**

I was just going along my day here like many of you I'm sure, when I came across the following plea in a friends blog. The Mara Conservancy needs our help - NOW. So as I thought about what I could do to help it dawned on me. Realistically I don't have time to put together a whole fundraiser, they need our help now.
So I've decided to do the next best thing in the spirit of Stewardship towards Mother Nature.
ALL of the proceeds from Saturday's Mother Love show will be donated to the Mara Conservancy. So now when you come out to the show on Saturday night not only will you be supporting these amazing artists and venue, but your entrance fee will go towards helping this great cause. If you were thinking about coming out and bringing friends, please let this help in your decision making. We can all make a difference.

***************************************************************************************************
This is an urgent appeal from the Mara Triangle in the Masai Mara, where post-election violence has seen a collapse in tourism. The Mara Conservancy, a non-profit, was entirely dependent upon park entrance fees paid by visitors to manage the Mara Triangle, and since the New Year we've had to suffer severe cutbacks in critical park operations. Working on a reduced budget has already had an impact on our effectiveness, and this is the first month since January that we've started with no money to carry on.

On Thursday rangers caught 6 poachers who had killed 37 Thomson Gazelles, and last Sunday one of our rangers was shot and seriously injured when chasing cattle rustlers. The Big Cats in the park are also under threat since the collapse of the compensation scheme in January, which you can read more about this here:
news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/scien...7372298.stm
To read more about what I have written you can visit Kimojino's blog where it is also possible to make a donation, with 100% of your donation (minus only a small bank fee) going directly to support the work of the Mara Conservancy rangers:
maratriangle.wildlifedirect.org
If you have ever visited the Mara you'll know how important it is to preserve the animals in this incredible place, and if you have ever wanted to visit, then your support now is crucial.

Please, help with what you can, and forward this email to everyone you know.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and please feel free to email me with any questions.
All the best

I've been doing a lot of soul searching these past few months and have come to several conclusions. These will affect my life in general, and also the shows at the Forbidden City going forward. I have the next date set aside Saturday August 9th, with dancers ~ Mesmera, Lee Ali, Jenna NY/LA, Tahma , Cyriana and Mas (who missed this last show due to injury) - our Fabulous photographer Marta will be back, and so will my dear friend and AWESOME photographer Michael Baxter. It's already gearing up to be a great show and I am very excited about the lineup!! The direction of this tribe is also going to change. Yes, this will still be the place for all Evenings information, but I'd like to make it a more interactive tribe and am going to start posting events and threads that will inspire more discussion about our small community. I truly believe in community, in fact that is the reason I put so much work into producing these shows. Stay tuned for pics from Marta of the last show, and for more news on the future of my events - because this is just the beginning! I've been doing these shows for almost a year and have learned a lot from them, they have served as my stepping stone and I am ready to jump to the next level. With my last lineup of ALL Superstars I thought I had topped myself, but wait till you see what Im dreaming up next!! Thanks for all the support this past year - it's been an honor to host some of the best performers this city has to offer - and Im not done - just gearing up for the 2nd act ; ) - see you soon!

*~THANK YOU*~

Wow - that was an amazing night!!! I am still smiling over it. Where to begin??
The evening began with the fiery and passionate music and dance of Mojacar Flamenco. Dancer Katerina Tomas and Guitarist Stephen Dick brought a whole new element to the stage at the Forbidden City. As Katerina stomped out every footnote, Stephen expertly guided her along with his melodic accompaniment. Her arms told the story as much as her face, feet and skirts. They completely mystified and entranced everyone in the audience with their finely tuned performance. As a Flamenco neophyte, I truly enjoy all of the nuances and subtleties that the dance offers. I am sure that as you learn more and see more performances those nuances make themselves more clear to you - I can't wait! Katerina really impressed me with her simple (seemingly) yet strong performance style. Just like Bellydance, a great Flamenco dancer makes it look effortless, and she did. Her face never once let show the strain and effort that Im sure she was dealing with. Her footwork was flawless, her skirtwork devine. Together with her guitarist - well - they were just perfection. Mojacar Flamenco really wowed everyone!!!
After a short intermission, in which I downed a delicious Bellytini - YUM we were ready to continue with our all star lineup.
Turbo Tabla by Karim Nagi came up next and what followed was 10 minutes of the funkiest drumming and dancing I've seen in a while. Karim plays drums with the energy and ease of someone born with a drum in his hand. He created a vision of drum and dance on that stage - and stomped and danced until I thought the stage would give out! His style is powerful and real and raw and fun. He was every bit the professional I had come to expect, and by the time he got off stage, everyone was jumping and jiving along with him. His energy was infectious, his smile radiant. We were SO lucky to have seen him live on his 2008 West Coast Tour!!!
The wonderful Princess Farhana took the stage after Karim. The previous day she had called to ask me for Tamra Henna's phone # just so the two of them could go over costume colors so they wouldn't wear the same color. They talked and found out that they were both planning on wearing the same 2 colors - tragedy averted luckily. But they didn't discuss music - oh no! When the Princess was up on stage I went to talk to Tamra-Henna to make sure she was ready - when she tells me - "Surprise - Im dancing to this very same song!" Great minds I guess : )
If you know these two dancers though, you will know that there is no way that these two dances were going to be even slightly similar and they weren't.
Princess Farhana's dance was beautiful, fun, flirty and filled with her signature moves and style. Not to mention her costume - a gorgeous red and turquoise number - was SO uniquely Princess that there was no doubt that these two women were very different. She worked the stage expertly, her smile lit up the entire room. Her spirit and soul were infused in every single drop, roll and shimmy, she was spectacular in every sense of the word.
Tamra-Henna was next, and after debating changing her song, I am so glad that she went ahead and danced to the same music. Tamra - Hennas style is so different, that even though the song was the same, it was a totally different rendition. Even Mandolin said that watching them back to back he could not tell that it was the same music. He was convinced that it wasnt. That's because those two ladies KNOW their stuff. Tamra's rendition was oh so classic, so soft yet powerful, so uniquely Tamra! She was magnificent. Her subtle cues, her lovely hands and smile - everything came together to show just how lovely she really is. I am in awe of both of these amazing women.
As the dancing ended, I was left with a feeling of joy. Seeing loved ones in the audience always helps - thanks to all of you that came out to support this very unique and special show in our community. I doubt that you could've found a better line up this whole month anywhere!!! I Thank each and everyone of these performers from the bottom of my heart. The amount of professionalism and talent they display serves not only to make my job easier as a promoter, but also as a lesson in humility and appreciation. Each of these performers are world renowned. Superstars in their own right, and I am so happy to have hosted them for the Mothers day show. Thank you LA - for making Saturday night yet another night to remember!!!

The next fabulous artist spotlight for the Mother Love show on May 10th is Marta Petrucci. She is a wonderful and talented photographer, that I've had the honor of working with on several projects. She has a very special eye for photography and creates beautiful and sometimes shocking images of her subjects. I love her style, her graciousness and her talents can not be ignored. I am so happy that her and Olu met and have been enjoying spending time with one another working and creating lovely art. Marta will be posting some of her and Olu's most recent work in the Tribe album, please do take the time to browse and comment on the images that stir your imagination. Both of these ladies have added so much to my life and I am proud to feature them in the Tribe album. Olu has been a featured dancer at the Forbidden City since my first show back in September of 07. Marta has been a part of the FC family since October of last year. Enjoy!!!

There will be NO parking on the dancefloor ; )

The early time of our event gives us many parking choices!! I love Hollywood so I don't mind walking. Here are some parking choices around the venue.

There is a lot right next to the venue - you can valet or park yourself for $20. I always park on the street - check out the map below for the street names. There is lots of parking on Argyle - east of Vine, also on Yucca and Cahuenga North of Hollywood. There is also lots of parking on Franklin if you don't mind a 5 minute walk to the venue. There is an $8 lot on Wilcox south of Hollywood, and a $10 lot on Cahuenga right next to the Velvet Margarita. Get there early for the most choices.

What can I say about our next Fabulous Featured Performer??? Aside from being one of only 3 people in the world that have made me understand and most importantly *look forward to* learning and retaining a choreography, this woman has done so much for our dancing community as a whole. She brings Folkloric dance to a lot of us who would otherwise not get a chance to study it. I am SO honored to have her grace our stage in 2 WEEKS at the Forbidden City. I can't say enough about this highly talented, sweet and lovely performer. I first saw her at her one woman show waaay back in 2004 or 2005?? I really dont remember the exact date, but I remember the feelings that she inspired in me as I watched her dance. Her show took me to heights that I had really never felt in a dance show before. My friend Faisal invited me to come out and see an amazing dancer, and to support him in his drumming. I got there late and had to watch from the balcony, which I was glad to have all to myself because by the end of the show I was weeping. The heights and depths of her dance touched something deep and primal in me. At that time I was barely starting on my own dance path and she shined so brillitantly that I decided right then that no matter what - I would learn from this woman. She didn't have classes yet, but I waited and waited and when she finally did, I jumped in with both feet. The amount of patience and creativity she exhibited in her classes was an inspiration, the material was new to me and taught with such clarity and organization that I looked forward to the next challenge. She is an amazing woman, choreographer and dancer of course and I can't wait to see her again!!!
www.midddleeasterndancer.com
From her website -
Tamra-henna is a performer, choreographer and instructor of Middle Eastern dance whose emotional range and technique have been shaped by seven years of performance, study, and life experience in the Middle East. With the intention of learning the art of raqs sharqi (belly dance) from its source, Tamra-henna moved to Egypt to study musical interpretation, technique, and the Arabic language and culture. She trained extensively with Nadia Hamdi, Raqia Hassan, Mona El Said, and Ibrahim Akef while pursuing a performing career in Cairo.

She appeared in Egypt’s most prestigious venues, most notably the Nile Hilton, where she was offered an extended contract. While in Egypt, she opened for some of the most well known artists in the Middle East today such as Amar Diab and Dina. Hungry for diverse cultural experience, Tamra-henna accepted contracts throughout the Arab world and has performed, traveled, and lived in: Lebanon, Morocco, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Bahrain, Yemen, and Cyprus.

Since her return to her native California, she has earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in Dance Choreography (within the genre of raqs sharqi,) at the University of California, Los Angeles (2004) and toured internationally as a featured soloist and workshop instructor with the “Bellydance Superstars” (2005). She has taught accredited classes in raqs sharqi technique and culture at UCLA, California State University, Pomona, and currently, in the dance department at Glendale College. Tamra-henna can be seen on numerous IAMED and Hollywood Music Center belly dance performance dvds. Her latest release is “Arabic Rhythms and Combinations,” a 2 hour Intermediate/Advanced level instructional dvd on the IAMED label.

Tamra-henna is constantly seeking to broaden her kinesthetic knowledge, hone her teaching skills and expand her artistic expression. Towards this end, she is currently working towards certification in Laban/Bartenieff Movement Studies, a system for understanding, mastering, and communicating a vast range of expression through movement.

Ok - Im exaggerating here - it's not a TOTAL tragedy BUT...I know Im dissapointed a little.

I've just been informed that the club is not able to get the yummy french pomergranate liqueur that they've been using for the Bellytini!!!!! So we have to choose another special martini for the evening.

I've decided on Godiva Chocolate Martini's - YUM!!!! I went and had a couple of *ahem* samples last night and Im happy to announce that they were devine!!! Michele the bartender made them so yummy - that I had to say yes.

Mother's day show on May 10th - be prepared for the NEW Bellytini flavor - Godiva!!!
Still at the can't be beat price of $8

For the first time in the history of Evenings at the Forbidden City – and hopefully not the last, we will be fortunate enough to witness the beauty and passion of REAL LIVE Flamenco Music and Dance - brought to you by the local troupe led By Katerina Tomas - Mojacar Flamenco. They will be firing up the stage with their Passionate Live Music and Dance straight from the heart. Flamenco is a sister dance of Bellydance, some may say it evolved from there or vice versa. Wherever it came from and wherever it goes, we can be sure that it has been and will continue to be a fiery evolution. I look forward to witnessing these powerful artists Live!!
www.mojacarflamenco.com

From their website :
Mojácar Flamenco is a dynamic group of flamenco artists led by guitarist Stephen Dick and dancer Katerina Tomás. Together, they offer a virtuosic tour-de-force in which music and dance weave together in tight interplay.
Mojácar offers flamenco concerts, workshops and lecture-demonstrations, bringing the power and passion of flamenco to all audiences.Mojácar was formed in 1997 when Stephen and Katerina returned from an extended visit to an artists' retreat in the village of Mojácar on Spain's Mediterranean coast. While there, Stephen wrote much of the music that became Mojácar's core repertoire.

Since then, the group has toured the U.S. and Canada, performed in Spain, collaborated with artists from all over the world, and released a CD featured on NPRs Morning Edition.

~* May 10th - Mother Love at the Forbidden City*~

Yes, it's only been since February and here I am once again getting ready for another STAR PACKED show.
Saturday May 10th - Mother Love at the Forbidden City
Doors Open at 6PM
Show starts at 7PM Sharp
$10 for single tickets, 2 for $15 or bring more friends and get better group prices!!!

This time around I have the immense pleasure and honor of bringing you some of the best Bellydance teachers that Los Angeles has to offer. On top of that I am pleased to announce that we will have a full Flamenco band and Troupe join us for the first time on the stage at Forbidden City. Mojacar Flamenco is an amazing group of Flamenco dancers and musicians. I am so incredibly excited and happy to be able to bring them to our stage. They will delight us with their Live music and dance.
The evening will not end there. We have the one and ONLY Princess Farhana gracing the stage as well. She will blow you away with her wonderful technique and dynamic personality - but wait there's MORE
are you ready for the Sublime Gorgeousness that is TAMRA HENNA????? I know I am!!!! This lady just takes me there - every.single.time - she is absolutely wonderful to watch in action.
I also have the great joy to introduce now as a soloist - the fabulous Fearless Leader - formerly of Burning Insence - Jennifer Gutierrez!!!! She will be debuting her hot solo at this show - you will not want to miss that, I know I am so happy she was available!
and just when you thought you could take no more - I give you MAS - Magnificent Male dancer extraoirdinare - oh yes - he's something else - you will not want to miss him!!
BUt wait theres MORE - MORE - MORE - I have one performer who is so big, so talented and it's SOOOOO hush hush that I can't tell you who it is - but YOU WANT TO SEE THEM - TRUST - you will kick yourself if you miss them.
Of course all of these amazing dancers are worth the price of one ticket, but here you get to see them ALL for the price of that ticket. The venue is lush and gorgeous, the food is great, the drinks strong and inexpensive for Hollywood ($7 for a Bellytini in an $11 martini town is not bad at all) and of course the dancing is just uncomprable.
Once again we will be joined by fabulous photographer Marta Petrucci as the official photographer for this event. WE LOVE YOU MARTA!!!!
I am still looking for guest artists to display their works of art at the club - if you are interested just send me a message and let's talk!!
I will be posting pics and facts about each one of our amazingly talented performers as the weeks go by.

It gives me great joy and honor to be able to bring all of this to you one more time - thank you LA!!!

One more performer to unveil and 3 more weeks til the SHOW!!!

I'm pinching myself right now. There are only 3 weeks to the next Evenings at the Forbidden City SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!
I still have ONE MORE AMAZING performer to spotlight - but I want to do a "slow tease" as they say ; )
The NEW website is being worked on as we speak, and as soon as it's up you will be able to pre-purchase your tickets online.
Like all of our other shows we will be offering both Dinner and Regular seating at the same great price of $10. Dinner seating is limited to 8 tables that seat 3 on the dancefloor and one booth that seats 10 people, the other booth is already spoken for. Dinner is not included in the door price, but the Forbidden City has a vast menu with lots of good and reasonably priced food choices that range from Yummy shrimp appetizers, to full meals such as Kung Pao Chicken and Lobster. I will be listing the available tables in the weeks to come, so get your reservations in early because this show will sell out. Regular seating is on soft luxurious bench seats and every seat has a fantastic view of the stage. Whats more the dancers all wind their way through the crowd on their way to the stage, giving everyone a great view of costumes and smiles. The Bellytini is back as well - wrap your lips around a chilled martini glass filled with Yummy Absolute Vodka and Premium French Pomergranate Liqueur $8 on the night of the show only. Bring your Mom, she will love you even more for not only thinking about her on Mother's day, but for taking her to see some of the cities FINEST teachers, including a Full Professional Flamenco Troupe with Musicians!
I simply cant wait!!!!!!! See you there!!!

Local Artist Manny Elias has once again come through with creating a fabulous flyer. He has created flyers for almost all of the shows at the Forbidden City so far. All of them have been original and unique. He is working on his website as we speak, and plans for it's debut in the Summer of this year. Meanwhile he's been busy creating art for dancers, including the Om Sisters www.omsisters3.com and myself www.kashmirdancer.com We thank him for his hard work and dedication to the Bellydance Community.

** May 10th Mother Love Spotlight on MAS **

I love Bellydancing - and there are few things that make me happier than seeing a gifted Male performer on stage. I am so happy to announce that we will be joined by one of the city's most sought after Male dancers. Mas has been dancing since probably before he could walk. His style is fluid and graceful yet strong and masterful. He is not only beautiful physically, but his dance skill is evident as soon as he takes the stage. When I met him it was all I could do not to blush, but his sweet personality soon won me over and I am so glad he will be the first Male to grace our stage at the Forbidden City. Bring your Mom to see some amazing Male Dancing Goodness with MAS!
Pictures are in the album : )

Hey all - I've just posted a few more pictures of my performance from the December 8th show at the Forbidden City. Dan Hendricks is a great photog who has been very supportive of LA Bellydance for more than a few years. If any of the dancers from the December showcase would like some of your shots just send him an email at danhphotos@yahoo.com - he'll work with you! Thanks!

Are you a painter? A portrait or regular photographer? A Poet or Writer? I want YOU!
As part of the tradition started by Marta Petrucci at last years October show, we will continue to feature different Guest Artists in these fields and beyond. In October Marta's photography was featured, as it was also featured at this past show last weekend. In December we had the Painter Manny Elias' works on display. We are continuing the tradition by featuring a different artist at the show on May 10th. If you would like to have your work featured at our next show in May - please send me a message and if possible a short description of what type of art it is you do. Whether you're a Painter, Sculptor, Poet, or any other kind of visual artist, let me know about you! Let others see your work in a very luxurious and inviting setting of the Forbidden CIty.

Check out the new photos in the album from the Urban Belly show last night -
It was a fun time had by all, people barely wanted the intermission to end! Well, except for they wanted to see MORE of those fab dancers ;)

Okay, we can all agree I could use a new camera - still, I think these shots convey what a great time we all had. Do Not Miss the next one (or the one after that!)

Apologies to Rahana and Daniella Drake. Both of you ladies were outstanding, but my camera was not :(
Hopefully someone else got a nice shot of your wonderful performances.

Thank you all for a great evening!

We have 7 tables available on either side of the dancefloor. If you are like me, and enjoy having a good dinner while watching exceptional dancing, then why not reserve one of these tables for your party? They seat 3 and are right in the path that the dancers take on their way to the stage. Patrons with dinner seating reservations get let in at 6PM, ahead of the general public so that they may place their orders in time to watch the show. Ticket price does not include dinner and you must make a reservation to have one of these tables. You can send me a private message, or respond to this thread. Once I receive your request, I will send you a confirmation and you are set!! Your name will be on a list at the door. Thank you and see you there. Ready, set, GO!

~*~Guest Artist for February's Urban Belly~*~

We will continue the tradition started at our October Show , of featuring works by local artists. I personally enjoy several different styles and mediums, so I will strive to bring you some of the local talent I find in many different fields. At the last show in December we featured original paintings by M. Elias, who is now moving into logo and web design for a couple of groups and vendors in the Bellydance community. He also created all of the Dancer art that you see in the tribe album.

This month's featured artist is the fabulous photographer Marta Petrucci. www.martapetrucci.com She is a newcomer to this country and the Los Angeles arts community. We met through a friend and instantly bonded over Bellydance. She studied with many great teachers in Italy and is currently taking private classes here in the city. Her passion for her photography art is apparent in the quality of her work. She is the kind of photographer that will go the extra mile for that special shot. We had some time at the Forbidden City earlier this week and got to do a great photo shoot. The results of that shoot are posted in the tribe album. She will be showing more of her work at the Urban Belly show next Saturday. I encourage everyone to take a look at her work, and talk to her about it if it resonates with you. She has a very unique approach to her photographing her subjects, and it shows. She is a talented woman and I am happy and proud to say that she is our official photographer for the upcoming show.

His paintings were set up along the walls of the dancefloor for all to see. Thank you to everyone that came up to me or the artist himself to talk about them.
If you or someone you know would like your own art feature - just drop me a message. I will strive to bring you not only the finest dancers, but other wonderful local artists as well. Thank you!!!

Oh my goodness, I am SO GLAD that I finagled my way out of that other party and came here instead!!!! This Oasis was just as inspiring and beautiful as they have all been. I am never disappointed by you Kashmir! You know how to throw a partay!!!

I am always so happy to see what gorgeous creatures wait for us in these shows. Olu, Kashmir, you are both absolutely delectible! She'enedra, boppy, fun, and as always a pleasure to watch. Zahra Zuhair...what can I say about that woman other then straight WOW! Monifa (I hope I spelled your name right!) came out and I was put in mind of a beautiful goddess descending down in her regal beauty to amuse us mere mortals. What a gorgeous woman she is!!!! Lee Ali...OMG WOMAN!!!! Just plain OMG!!!! You are eye-popping; a feast for the senses! Sherri Wheatly, I have to say this is the first time I have seen her dance in person and I was absolutely stunned. What stage presence, and such intricate, controlled movements! Pure poetry!

However I have to say, personally, my favorite point of the night was Sooz. All of the performers were stupendous, and the musicians!!!! I was absolutely in awe :) But Sooz's performance was like something out of an old movie. Longing, regret, love, pain....all painted in her movements and in her features. It was absolutely amazing how still the room went during her song, and I swear I saw people wipe a tear or two...I know I got awful close myself!

I just can't stop raving about the woman!

*sigh* I wish it wasn't so late and I wasn't so tired....because you have all inspired me and now I want to DANCE!!!! :D

~* Artwork at the Oasis*~

Every month at the Oasis we will be featuring a different works by non-dance Artists. It's my goal to bring in as much beautiful and inspiring work in as many mediums as possible. Photography, Painting, Sculpture, Poetry and Music from our own local artists. Last month we featured the photography of Marta Petrucci. www.martapetrucci.com and I will strive to bring you much more.
This months featured Artist is none other than the wonderful Man that's given the Oasis all of our lovely Artwork to date. Manny Elias has been drawing, illustrating and creating graphics since his early teens. He is a local artist who draws from many disciplines to create his works. He has created, written and illustrated several Comic books, including Chingaso the Clown, which was made into a short film that has won several National and International film awards since it's debut in early 2006. He is currently developing his painting techniques, often working all night to bring his vision forth. The work that will be on display on Saturday is the result of several weeks of painting, all centered around the theme of Femininity and Grace. Using a variety of techniques and tools, he creates paintings that draw you in with their colors, technique and emotion. He can often be seen at Bellydancing events carefully sketching as he watches the dancers. His inspirations come from their movements, costuming and music. I am proud to welcome not only an inspiring Artist to the Oasis, but a wonderful and dedicated person who loves and lives his art. His work will be on display before, during and after the show, the Artist will also be there in person.

Ladies and gentlemen - I am so very happy and honored to bring you the line up for the December Oasis show at the beautiful Forbidden City.

Im going to do it differently this time around, only featuring one dancer at a time so that you can appreciate everyone's individual talents.

First on the lineup for December 8th - Olu
www.olubellydance.com

I can't imagine a show of any sort of quality without her beaufitul fluid presence. This woman brings so much joy and experience to the stage from years of training with some of the best teachers out there. It's a huge inspiration to know and watch her grow as a dancer year after year. If you haven't seen Olu lately you are cheating yourself out of a sublime experience. I for one am overjoyed that she's joining us again - for the 3rd time!!! We are very lucky to have her for the December 8th show.

Table Reservations - December 8th

As usual we will have 8 tables available on the dancefloor for those of you that would like to enjoy a little bit of dinner and get in a little bit earlier than the general public. These tables all seat 3 people each and are located in prime dancefloor real estate. You get to see the dancers up close and personal as they make their way to and from the stage - and if they dance in the audience YOU will be there! These tables are on a first come first served basis - that is IF I still have any free. I highly suggest reserving one or more of these for yourself AHEAD of time - like NOW! I always run out of these and inevitably someone comes to me the day of or the day before asking for one and I always have to say SORRY - Im all booked! So get yours NOW. Come early and order your dinner - we'll be having some great live musicians this time around to play as we all get ready and eat before the show. RESERVE YOUR TABLE NOW!!!! Just send me a message here on Tribe and we'll go from there. As of today - Wednesday November 7th I have 8 tables - ready, set, GO!

We're lucky to have our event early - it affords us all lots of choices for parking.

Hollywood & Vine - things to do after the Oasis

For those of you that don't have dinner reservations, or would like their dinner after seeing the fabulous show ~ I've compiled a list of great restaurants that I've been to around the Forbidden City for your perusal. All of these places are walking distance, as walking and people watching are the best around this section of Hollywood. Grab your date and head out to one of these fabulous dining establishments.

The intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street has a long and illustrious history as one of the most famous corners in the world. Known primarily as the birthplace of the entertainment industry, "Hollywood and Vine" is re-emerging today as one of Los Angeles' most popular destinations.
The first feature film, "The Squaw Man," was produced near Hollywood and Vine in 1913. During the 1920's and 1930s, when the movie industry was in its heyday and stars lived in the surrounding hills, the intersection of Hollywood and Vine became one of the most recognized crossroads in the world. On any given day, film fans could catch glimpses of their favorite stars cruising by in convertibles or shopping at such upscale shops as the Broadway Department store. Aspiring actors lodged at the Plaza on Vine (Ronald Reagan's hotel when he first arrived from Des Moines) and cut deals with agents quartered in the Taft Building. And anyone who was anyone came out at night to frequent such hotspots as the Brown Derby , Clara Bow's It Café , and Sardi's .
During Hollywood's Golden Age, the area around Hollywood and Vine was the center of the entertainment industry with major motion picture studios such as Paramount, Fox, Colombia and Warner Brothers located nearby. Hollywood Boulevard movie palaces, such as the Pantages Theatre, were home to larger-than life premieres and glamorous events such as the Academy Awards. Live radio broadcasts from the huge NBC Radio City complex at Sunset & Vine, CBS at Sunset & Gower and the Palace Theatre on Vine made the phrase "coming to you live from Hollywood" famous world-wide.
The corner gained notoriety in 1945 when President Truman announced the end of World War II. People went wild, pouring into the street and forcing it to close. Hollywood and Vine was littered with confetti and people danced all night to celebrate the end of the war. The corner continued to flourish throughout the 1950s and 1960s. Capitol Records made Hollywood & Vine home, building the first-ever circular office building, created to resemble a stack of records with a stylus on top. Television joined radio in broadcasting live television shows from Hollywood theatres and studios.
Today the corner continues to be a premiere destination for Hollywood insiders and tourists from around the world. The Pantages Theatre has been completely refurbished and features a wide array of award-winning shows. Hollywood & Vine is truly a restaurant that embraces the neighborhood's history, but with a modern day flair.
The elegant neighborhood hangout opened its doors in March 2004 and has quickly become a favorite dining destination. Dark woods, silver chrome accents and plush booths transport guests back to Hollywood's heyday, while the menu offers contemporary "twists" on classic favorites.

What can I say?? We are some of the luckiest Bellydance lovers in the country to have such an amazing pool of talented dancers here. The Forbidden City is also probably one of the best venues in town, especially for a early Halloween show - the decor is lush and exotic, and many of the dancers are building their dances around that central theme. Be prepared to be wowed by these women. I am so proud and happy to announce our lovely Oasis dancers for October, they are:

Katerina ~ Not only is she an amazing dancer, this woman is a creative force to be reckoned with. She is seamstress, storyteller and dancer all in one.

Tsingani ~ Lovely, lyrical, mesmerizing. All proper words to describe this beautiful troupe.

Olu ~ I just can't get enough, and neither can you. So there.

Blue Damsel ~ With their 2 new Damsels ready to roll I guarantee these ladies will tear the roof off the Mofo! Do you want to be there when they unveil their new hotness?? I know I do.

Myths and Legends Dance Co. ~ After seeing them at Danse Macabre last year I was hooked on their brand of dance/storytelling theatre. The dark mixed with light, the sad with the effervescent. I can't wait to see them live again, and in such an intimate and luxurious setting.

Marguerite ~ A wonderful, experienced and magnificent stroryteller in her own right. She will amaze and inspire you with her beautiful technique, and strong persona . A favorite among those who know the real thing when they see it.

Roxxanne Shelaby ~ I've known this woman for years, and everytime I see her she has gotten noticeably better. She breathes sensuality, lives the music and transforms you with her interpretations of ancient rhythms. A treat to behold.

Rachel and Sooz ~ Oh man, I just can't wait to see this hotness!!!!!

The lineup is IMHO one of the best around, even if I werent producing this show, I would be at this show : )
It's going to be another wonderful evening at the Oasis.
See you there.

She helped me so much with getting everyone's music ready for the DJ and getting me everyone's bios - even putting them in order for me. Thank you so much for all your help Madrid!!!!

If you are like me, you enjoy some nightlife. There is no place on earth like Hollywood on a Saturday night. The energy is electric and the people are beautiful. You can wander down the streets and check out a different bar at every block. There are so many wonderful dining establishments on the Boulevard and in the side streets. The Velvet Margarita on Cahuenga, Micelis on Las Palmas, Musso and Franks on the Boulevard, and that is just within 4 blocks of the venue. This time of year the Hollywood Toy company is full of Halloween costumes and effects, I can spend HOURS in there. If you feel like taking a walk and just taking in the scenery that's really fun too. There is so much to do and discover in Hollywood!!!

There is plenty of street parking on Yucca, Cahuenga, Franklin, and North Vine. The valet right next to the Forbidden City is $20. There are lots of other near by lots that charge as little as $7. One in particular is on Cahuenga north of Selma, they charge $7. Across from them is another inexpensive lot. If you get there early enough you should not have a problem finding parking. Drive safe!

It's a sublime blend of Absolut vodka, pomegranate liqueur and a splash of fresh lime juice all shaken and served in a sexy little chilled martini glass. The Bellytini is $7 for our event. It's perfect to sip on as you watch the dancing, or as a light accompaniment to your dinner. YUM.

I have approximately 6 tables up for reservation for the October 13th Oasis.

These tables seat 3 and are especially for those of you that would like to enjoy dinner while watching the show. There is also regular seating available if you just want to watch the show too. The dinner tables are located along the dancefloor, so you see the dancers not only on stage, but as they make their way down to the stage. Ticket prices do not include dinner, but their menu is vast and very affordable. People with CONFIRMED dinner reservations get let in ahead of the general public so that you can get your order in before the show starts.

Please send me your request for a table and I will CONFIRM with you when I receive it. I will post here with the remaining number as I get reservations.
Any questions? PM me : )

Thank you!!!

I wanted to say that I had a fantastic time at Oasis this last weekend. I loved the show and I think I got some great pictures. The dancers and audience and everyone else was incredible.

It is an honor and a great pleasure to work with Kashmir and Manny. These two people are incredible, honest and driven to excellence. I look forward to our future shows.

What a beautiful evening!!

I want to take a moment and share with everyone my experience on Saturday night. Needless to say that I was nervous and a bit off kilter because of something that happened before Mandolin and I even got there, but as soon as I saw the dancers start to arrive, I forgot all about it and was able to really enjoy myself.
The venue is beautiful, and aside from being every bit the fantastic setting necessary for a show like this, the staff was really glad to have us and did everything they could to help the dancers feel at home and comfortable. All of the performers went above and beyond what I had expected. Everyone that shared the stage that night has been an inspiration to me, and they managed to inspire me again with their lovely dances.
Celeste was every bit the Bombshell that we've all come to know and love. Her prowess with her veil is something that I admire greatly, the veil being one of my favorite dance partners. Her fluidity and confidence are two things that set her apart from the multitude of Egyptian dancers out there, to me she embodies the femine grace and power that Egyptian style is known for, not to mention she is a beautiful woman inside and out.
Atash Maya - I can't thank these ladies enough for making the long trek from San Diego to be a part of the first show. Their performance was seamless, meditative and gorgeous to look at. When they breathed I breathed, and with each turn, arm movement and well timed transition I was pulled more into their whole essence. Watching them I felt like I was floating down a river and looking at all the beautiful scenery as I slowly floated downstream.
Najah - I knew that Najah would deliver something fun with a lot of attitude - as Madolin put it while we were watching her slither down towards the stage "Najah emotes like CRAZY". She performed with such gusto and with an air of confidence that you could not take your eyes off her. Her costuming was exceptionally well put together (the woman is an incredible seamstress) and imaginative - definitely a great addition to the lineup.
Olu - What more can I say that you don't already know about this gifted performer?? I've had the pleasure of being in the Ansuya comprehensive with her this past Summer and can see the effort and hours of practice that she puts into her dance. It's such a joy to see her try new things and grow and evolve as a dancer. I feel like I am watching a beautiful flower bloom each time I watch her perform something new. Saturday nights performance was no exception. Pushing herself out of her comfort zone and really striving to get better with each performance is something that I really admire of Olu. I could not have asked for a better close for the first half.
During the intermission I ran around a lot .
Subee Djinn - these ladies are wonderful performers. Their slow, technically intricate dance always mesmerizes me, and I feel like I am watching a painting slowly come to life. They move with such confidence and grace, I always admire their synchronicity. Nikii is also a very talented costumer, and her designs always set them aside as a duet to be admired. It also helps that both of these ladies are intelligent and talented women outside of the dance, they are true artists.
Kali Sundari - for someone so young this woman has so much talent, it's apparent that she takes her dance very seriously. Her combinations were crisp, her excecution flawless, and her fun attitude was infectious. I could not stand still while watching her. Needless to say that her glowing talent matched her humble attitude perfectly. She is definitely someone that I am keeping my eye on, I'm sure she will only get better as time goes on.
Last but certainly not least -
The Om Sisters - these ladies have it all. They are fun, they love the dance and take their education seriously. They put in the work and their dedication shows. Even though they are a newer troupe, they continually impress me with their cutting edge moves, their lovely positive attitude and their willingness to do whatever is needed to keep the show going. These are attributes that I look for in all the performers for the Oasis and I completely hit the jackpot with our first line up.
The crowd was a healthy mixture of other dancers, LOTS of people from the general public who had never seen anything remotely Bellydance related live, and longtime aficionados of the dance who know a good line up when they see it. I was extremely pleased with the crowd that evening. I can safely say that it's the most diverse crowd at any show that I've been to this year. I had a long conversation with a gentleman who had come with a friend of mine about all the different styles of dance that were represented that evening. He had no idea the spectrum was so varied, he walked out of there with so much information, and with such a gleam in his eye, that I'm sure he will bring others to the next show just telling them about what he learned. Mandolin even managed to pull some people in off of the street that were just walking by and were curious. After he told them about what we were doing they immediately bought tickets and went inside - I've never had that happen before!! It was a terrific evening all around!!

Doors open at 6PM
Show starts at 7PM
Performers for the evening are:
Najah - you've seen her amazing costuming, laughed with her backstage, now you get to see her in her finest ssssssslinky performance
Subee Djin - I love these ladies - grace, imagination and strong technique -nuff said - and if you don't know, well, maybe you should find out!
Olu - is there anything more lovely than seeing Olu in her dance?? Well maybe a kitten in a tuu tuu - but no, we won't have one of those. Olu rules.
