recently got back in touch with a pen pal after a decade or more. here's what he has to say about the state of things in richmond, va:
Richmond has gone to crap -- they closed down all the cool clubs in the "Youth" area of town and moved everything downtown to a 5 block area full of rich fucks, uncool college kids, and money grabbing bar owners. No cool clubs anymore. All these modern-created atmosphere places -- and you can't walk there. All the clubs used to be spread around and always at least one in walking distance. Now they are all 20 miles downtown and suck. We don't go out much anymore.

Granted it was along time ago and very quick, but when I stopped in Richmond there wasnt 20 miles across much less 20 miles to get to downtown.
