Hello, all! I positively LOVE the look of henna-ed hands and feet for performances, but I suck and henna-ing myself. Pros are expensive, and my job doesn't particularly appreciate the henna look. Sooooo, I've been looking on eBay, and recently discovered the temporary tattoos (the kind you put on with water, like little kids have) that look like henna. I'm sure it's not a perfect match, but I think that from the audience of a stage, it would be good enough. Also, I could get rid of the henna before work.
So my question to all of you smarties: Is it worth it? Do the temp. tattoos look good enough to pass from performing distance? Are they durable enough to last throughout one performance?
Thank you all so very very much!!

Re: Trials and Tribulations with henna
Fri, September 11, 2009 - 8:12 PMI have a feeling that hands being what they are....the temporary's might come off or get smudged sooner then you'd like. Since the surface of our hands come in contact with so many things the likelihood of it staying put might be low....especially if your going to be getting dressed, doing make-up and all that other fun stuff pre-show. If you go that route it might have to be something you apply within minutes of actually performing and that might end up being a hassle.
I remember someone posting a while back about running out of time for a show where they were supposed to be hennaed but they just didn't get the time to make it happen. She used a brown "Sharpie" marker and said that no one could tell from the audience. If you go that route once your done you could always remove the majority of it from your hands with rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover and the faint bit that will be left should come fade away pretty quickly as your hands are exfoliated when you wash them.
You could always save up to get another area (back, tummy, upper arm) done with real henna for a special show or if you have a photo shot.

You could try something like this in the link above. It's a henna pen and says it lasts about 7 days. Sharpies aren't very safe to use on skin. And the good thing about these pens is that they are using actual henna.

Re: Trials and Tribulations with henna
Sat, September 19, 2009 - 2:53 PMI would worry about it sweating off. I had a little boy color himself from head to toe with some of those. We put him in the shower and the color just streamed right off. How colorfast are they during performances? -

Re: Trials and Tribulations with henna
Mon, September 14, 2009 - 8:38 AMThat hennapenna sounds PERFECT! Has anyone tried it? I tend to stain VERY dark with henna, so it really doesn't even have to be that good to work for me.
I'd love to hear everyone else's experiences with it. I have always been frustrated with my ability to create pretty henna designs on paper and my total inability to reproduce them with paste. I've read that it only lasts two to three days, but this is also great for me.
any customer reviews?
Thanks!

Re: Trials and Tribulations with henna
Mon, September 14, 2009 - 9:25 AMI wish I could say that I have, but I just did a search for Henna pens and found them. I thought they were neat since they had different colors. I had a henna pen, a cheap one, a looonggg time ago and it worked decently, but it washed off easily, but henna doesn't stain me as easily as my clothes. lol
