To tell you the truth, I don't think goddess as a category refers to Dolphina's workout, really.

      Oh Oh Oh.

Desari- the nicest comment I can make is probably to just agree with you.

I really like Dolphina, I don't care what people think. But when someone says goddess as a category in bellydance, her workout isn't it. Her workout really is about empowering women, we are all 'goddesses'. The category seems to be something else and I think the second link that Erika gave here is a pretty good description.

There is a relatively famous group in Boston called The Goddess Dancing. They have a dvd. They've been in Oprah magazine (woohoo) They have a tribe.. nothing much goes on in there. Anyway. . on the dvd all the warmups refer to goddesses..And the point is to honor the goddess within us all.. I'm still not sure that makes it a type of belly dancing.. rather than an attitude while belly dancing???

How can anyone hope to catogorize types of belly dance when there is no agreement what to call the basic moves that translate to pretty much all types of belly dance.. chest circles>rib circles>heart circles... for instance. i'm not sure how valid any survey can be when theres two belly dancers can mean a whole different thing in the moves they talk about .. let alone what style they are describing with their words.. mildly brain dead tonight.. sooo not very articulate

their dvd categorizes the moves of belly dance into "sacred shapes". personally, even as a Pagan, i find it a little.... cheesy... but it is a great dvd....
anyway, i agree with it being #3, if ur calling it a style. the Goddess in us all is that, at least modern Pagans, consider God/dess to be the lifeforce of everything, and too big to understand, so we personify it into Allah, Vishnu, Jesus, Artimis, etc. so we all have a little of the lifeforce/ diety in us, but the dance can be done to honor a more literal interpretation of a seperate Goddess entity, OR as a celebration of the former.
(i don't personally connect with that style of dance, or worship, though. so you prob. shouldn't take that TOO serriously ^_^)
